My "make-up", all two items of it, consists of mascara, and lipstick.  A facial moisturizer with SPF, kinda goes without saying.

If an occasion or event, requires me to be all dolled up to the hilt, then I make an appointment to be in a make-up chair with a professional.

I'm like a two year old, trying to color with one of those big fat crayons when I attempt to put on eyeliner.  And a mascara wand, you can put your eye out with one of those things you know?  My doctor called it a corneal abrasion, and I was instructed not to where any eye make-up, until it healed.  Boy that tough, NOT!

I have a routine for taking care of my skin, naturally, not trying to cover up it.  Make-up is made of chemicals, and if you read some of the ingredients, and actually knew what some of that stuff was, I dont think as many ladies would be putting some of that stuff on their face.

I see an aesthetician a couple of times a year, and her rule about products and treatments and the ingredients in them is... if you cant eat it, or read it, then you dont need it.

I'm very comfortable in my own skin.

I have always been a tom boy at heart....I was forced to go to charm school where I was taught how to put it on....and the whole concept seemed silly to me.

Ok so I tried some here lately hoping to turn over a new leaf,.....and it was that bare minerals stuff....it burnt my face to the point where I am seeing a provider this week who owns a salon....to get my skin treated so me and make up dont really get along too well.

I am the complete opposite......I don't think any of my clients have EVER seen me with make up on.

.... No liner or anything else that will and make me look like a raccoon in th morning.

I don't wear foundation or anything anyway because I generally have good skin.  SO in a nutshell, no.

I wash my make up off every night.  I use some mineral powder make up and Mascara on my very long lashes,  a little blush and some sexy lip gloss, that's it...I go very natural with my olive complection.  I go everywhere without make up all the time...But, I do love my mascara!  :)

I usually whole heartedly agree with what you say, but it was you that came off as the harsh one, not Ms. Lili.

She specifically said, and I quote...
"make-up to "ME"..." the keyword here being "me" as in herself.  She wasnt insulting anyone, she was speaking only of what make-up was like for her.

I agree with her on this point.  I've tried some different kinds of make-up before and it does indeed feel like you're face is wearing a mask.  I was so uncomfortable in it, I felt like my face couldnt breath.

"Taking it off" was even worse, simple soap and water barely budged the stuff.  Hell, household commercial house paint washes off easier than what I had on my face that day.

I confess, I'm not the biggest fan of make-up, probably stems more from me "NOT" knowing how to do it.  If I knew more about how to make myself look pretty, with make-up, rather than looking "made up" with make-up, I might be more comfortable with it.  It was just something I was never taught.

In all my years in my civilian job, no one would have ever noticed, whether I, or any of my co-workers around me, were wearing make-up or not.  That being said, I preferred to sleep in and get a few more beauty winks, rather than waking up, and doing a beauty routine.

To each his own Ms. Betty, and I'm sure you look wonderful either way.  I like what's inside you, which is your really big heart.

First off, there's no one answer since every face and complexion is different, so it's not worth arguing about (ladies further down the board).

I've dated women that were rather plain but knew how to apply makeup properly and were beautiful as a result.  The word transformative comes to mind.  I've also date others that only wore a small amount as an accent- they didn't need any more.  It just depends on the person, face and skin.

In the past, I did quite a bit of photography and learned that a professional make up artist is the key to getting beautiful photographs.

As for my personal preference as a guy, I like it when a woman makes an effort to look her best and I appreciate the fact that seeing me is important or special enough for her to care.

I like enhancing my eyes and looking my best.  I only have a small makeup bag.  But with the right key items, that's all I need.  I do go out all the time without makeup.  I go to the gym 3-4 times a week and I swim 2x per week too.  So wearing makeup is no good for that.  But when I see a client, I put a lot into doing my makeup, hair, outfit, and shaving close everywhere.  Bottom line.... I like makeup and I enjoy wearing it.  At the same time I am completely comfortable without it too.

Unless asked otherwise im usually very done up. Im a stylist and makeup artist for my "job" so its second nature to me. I take it off before going to bed, even for an overnight. I do have someone that I see that likes me best very natural. No makeup - yoga pants. ect.  I am very comfortable in my own skin though, with or without makeup. But I do feel my best when im all dolled up and girlie =)

wearing make up in this business for most of us is the same as any woman you encounter on the streets. I for one may be wearing make up but do not look made up. It doesn't hide the real me only enhance it.
I am no different here as in my real life as far as make up goes.

Due to previous jobs and ingrained lifestyle habits, being photo ready (yes, the professional kind) for a date is second nature to me - from hair to make up to outfit to jewelry and other accessories.  I do temper the over all look to suit the time of day and environment.  I also go to the gym 6x/wk and grocery shop in nothing but workout wear and my hair in a pony.

For me, being dolled up has nothing to do with being comfortable in my own skin - it has to do with my idea of what's appropriate for a situation.  To me, it's simply not appropriate to show up for a date looking as natural as when I grocery shop just like it's simply not appropriate to wear jeans to a formal wedding.

However, if a gent specifically requested a very natural look, I'd accommodate the request!  Much like if the wedding invitation specifically stated "Wear your PJ's", you wouldn't show up in a ball gown....

it's just not me. make-up to me is akin to wearing a mask, and i would absolutely hate to be liked or perceived attractive based on a mask...talk about a self-esteem killer! i'd rather the world take me as i truly am, and accept me or not, find me aesthetically pleasing or not, based on reality.

bunch of phonies!  There is no need to insult other people.  Wearing makeup is not akin to wearing a mask.  Properly applied 'everyday makeup' can enhance your looks.  But will not hide the true you.  So when I wear my makeup it IS reality...not a mask as you have stated.  I find your post to be directly insulting to the many ladies who choose to wear makeup to enhance the beauty they already have.

Many of us enjoy wearing makeup and appreciate the way it accents our features.  I wear makeup.  But I would never post something that says anything negative against women who choose not to.  To each their own.  Live and let live.  :)  yada yada yada...  So enjoy your face without the makeup.  But leave us ladies who choose to wear it alone.  Just be nice... simple stuff.

Peace!  Betty

obviously my post was drastically misinterpreted. i was referring only to how make-up makes ME feel, personally, and making no judgment on those who do choose to wear make-up. like yourself Jaycee, i'm no make-up expert. i have zero knowledge on how to apply it, what types to buy, etc. the 2 or 3 times in my life when i have been professionally "made-up" were very negative experiences for me, and resulted in my feeling very negatively about myself. not because i looked bad (according to plenty of folks, i looked just great!), but because i didn't look or feel like ME. hearing the compliments on my appearance after those experiences only left me feeling ugly...as if i were someone so grotesque that i needed the mask of make-up in order to be presentable to the world. but then, i'm a very sensitive sort and overly-analytical to boot, so such everyday seemingly meaningless can have a powerful effect on me.

so BaltimoreBetty, i have nothing against those women who wear make-up and enjoy doing so, and in fact i envy both the skill and confidence of such women. it's just not for me. if i am quasimodo, then so be it...somewhere in the world there will be someone who finds my one large eye and one tiny squinting eye alluring, and my big ol' hump mighty sexy. lol

I thought my post was friendly enough while expressing my personal opinion at the same time.  I can certainly agree to disagree just as I stated in my post...."live and let live" etc... yada yada yada lol

I do wear make-up, in a porn star style.
I usually get rated in the 7 to 9 range for appearance on TER, so I know I look attractive with the make-up on.
Lately, I've gone to a lot of my sessions with less make-up on, and in some cases, I went with no make-up on.
My appearance ratings were still in the 7 to 9  range.
I have done overnight dates, and I don't mind waking up with a nude face.
I think the guy would be expecting that!

I dont think make-up makes or breaks who you are no matter how much cover up you use. Because most of my clients almost always show up wearing a crisp white button down shirt I completely did away with makeup. We always hug and kiss at the door. Im kinda short so chances are when my friends reach to hug me that makeup is coming right off anyway. Beauty is only skin deep not make-up deep......
