I will be traveling to my favorite city for a day visit here soon. It will be for work and I will have a employee with me. I am thinking of trying to find away to ditch her at some point and make an appointment. The ditching will be easy, the hard part will be explaining the hour or so time loss after I seperate and making a good enough excuse that my phone doesn't ring the whole time. Any suggestions? Or do you think it is worth the risk?

Your boss would have the implied right to ask you about your business, your employee has no such right to ask you about your personal business. I would simply put it that way, "I have some personal business to attend to" EOM. She has no right, nor should you have ever given her the idea that she has any right to press you further for details. Wiping the shit eating grin off your face is a completely different matter. I can't help you there. lol

and old aunt or old friend or long forgotten great uncle who has been hospitalized and thank goodness you happen to be there and can visit him/ her. even tho you haven't seem him/her in years (so your wife has never heard of him her if it should ever come up.)  
A quick visit by your to hospital ....what a great friend nephew evict you are.

There's always a "what if".  That is, what if the same (or another) relative actually gets sick, and you've already used that excuse?  Then what will you do?  Plus, in some cultures, it's considered very bad form to use those excuses, because it's believed to attract the bad things you're fabricating.

He'd take one look at me, look at my tussled hair and my shit eating grin and tell me "Dude, you've got bed head, did you just fuck some hooker?"  

I guess I should explain more. While I do pull the "because I am the boss" card from time to time I don't think it would be good to use this time. Mainly out of courtesy. We will be in the same vehicle, travel for 4 hours to Denver conduct about 2 hours of business then would normally go home. I guess what I am asking advise about is what do I do short of dropping her off on a street corner, "I will be back when I get back. I am the boss, deal with it". It is the shortness of the trip and no physical location I am having a little trouble with. If I had a place, office or hotel etc, to just leave her I would. I could sneak away and let her take care of business. But then I would still be stranding her.  
As to the other advise, hard pass. I have no desire to see her naked. Let's just say she is not my type. Lol.

I would play it this way:
In a respectful but apologetic manner ask her (well before you leave on the trip) if it would be alright to drop her off at a coffee shop or mall for a couple hours while you reconnect with an old colleauge or roommate.  If she just wants read a book or to do more work on her computer the coffee shop works well, and 90-120 minutes isnt too long.  If she is a typical girl, ask her if she has any shopping she would like to do, and be prepared to drop off and pick her up whereever she wants to go.  Yes you are her boss, but given the details you added i would agree that you cant really just dump her on a street corner.  Being you are her boss, she should be more than willing to accommodate your request if delivered correctly.

Poor Planning on your part.   As a boss you shouldn't expect any employee to spend 8 hours in car (4 hrs each way) plus 2 hours of business plus an hour I presume for lunch.    This is an 11 hour day.  You should have made it a point to make such a trip with an overnight due to the length of the actual car ride

Ummm.. In the agriculture field we average 12-16 hour days between April to October. I don't know what I, or anyone I work with would know what to do with ourselves just working 8 hours a day.

First off, you are asking her to extend an already very long day by another couple of hours just so you can get some strange. I agree that simply being the boss does not entitle you to simply tell her to deal with it.

If you intend to mix business with pleasure, that's up to you but it shouldn't inconvenience a subordinate of yours in any way. That's inconsiderate and inappropriate for a manager. The fact you're asking us about this tells me your conscience is bothering you about doing this. So why not keep to business this trip and plan better next time, maybe with an overnight as was suggested?

And I got it. The obvious solution is to not mix business with pleasure.

Or have lunch with a friend (your choice) Suggest she go shopping for an hour, or give her some mindless-research project to do for an hour (again, your choice) and just go get laid. Turn off your phone for the hour and relax. I remember getting caught by a colleague at a business conference. I was coming out of the hotel elevator where we were having the conference. She said, "you look like you just got out of bed." I said, "I did, Naps are wonderful right after lunch (while thinking, so is getting laid)." I'm just grateful that I didn't take the elevator with the provider.

And if you can't pull it off, screw it. People talk and people "talk", why chance it. Some of us are good at this, others not so. I travel with clients and some are gun ho about it almost like the landing at Omaha Beach, others not so. Like the saying goes..."Know your audience".

You shouldn't inconvenience someone else to get your dick wet. So unless she has something she wants to do in Denver, your out of luck. My advice was for an overnight trip before. This is way different.

see if she minds killing a couple of hours extra...  you might want to sweeten it somehow...  while you tend to some personal business.  "A shame to go all that way & not shop, see a friend, etc"  An hour appt plus travel turns into an hour & a half or more.

Neither of us give a fuck who knows we are fucking hookers at every opportunity, so this "rule" hardly applies to us. If someone comes banging on my door while I am having sex, I feel no obligation to answer, and unless they want me to shoot them through the door, everyone I know has the good sense not to stand there pounding if I don't answer. lol

I guess you only read the OP, and not the follow ups.

Just say goodnight to your employee, and get on with your evening -- a late date works best for this.  One thing I strongly suggest is that you make sure upon checking in that you are staying in either a different hotel or at the very least on a different floor far away from your employee -- I simply request this upon check-in and the hotel always gladly complies.  I have been doing this for years and it's really not all that hard -- though it does make dinner out with a date much more of a challenge to impossible.  (In these cases, I normally have her meet me at my room or meet at her place.  Be sure to find out in advance in your elevators require a key card, as meeting her in the lobby can be a major risk if you have an employee staying in the same hotel.)

you could offer to pay for a couple hour spa treatment or soothing massage while you slip away.   that's always great after a long road trip

If he acts completely out of his regular character and she figures out - or even suspects - what he's doing during the missing hour, then she becomes a risk to tell Wifey and she could become his boss.  "I'm leaving early for the weekend, is that OK, Otto?"  But it's Wednesday!  "I'm sorry, do you have a problem with that?  I'll bet your wife thinks it's OK."  Have a good time!

One thing if it's an overnight whereby you can excuse yourself after dinner, but cutting out on her for a couple of hours on a day trip?  Would raise too many questions and eyebrows with my company, and keeping the hobby and work separate is always a good idea.  On the other hand, if she asks to cut out for awhile for whatever reason...

Although I clean myself up when done, either right at the incall location or at home afterwards, my body language gives it all away.  My non-hobbying friend takes one look at me, and says: "Again?" or "OK, fess up. What's her name and how much?"  Even strangers act differently around me.  I went to a salsa club after seeing a provider once, and girls acted inordinately affectionate while dancing with me, and another time, guys on the street in a sketchy area stepped out of my way so I could pass.
