I've not been around much lately so I don't know your particular tone/style. Glad to know you weren't being serious! ;-)  That would have been truly mystifying.... and sad.

Interesting article about a law that was just passed requiring models not to be too skinny, AND (you boys will love this) to admit to any photoshopping done in ads lol. Looks like some of you hobbyists are rubbing off on the modeling biz...no more bait and switch. It's an attempt to combat rampant eating disorders overseas, which is pretty damn ironic considering many countries are full of people who have no choice but to starve. Would have been better served for models in California lol.  Just thought it was rather interesting and wanted to share.

Always thought you couldn't be too rich or too....

I remember reading about a model who died on the catwalk, because she haven't eaten in a few days. Now you won't have to worry about something similar.

My hooker name is "London" lol. No, I would never have to worry about dying from a lack of food, unless you count my low sperm intake.

But it's hard to enforce this one.

How do you enforce or legislate what "too skinny" is?  Every person is very different in his/her genetic makeup, and it's not like somone who is, say, 5'10" needs to always weigh between X and Y pounds or kilos.

The intent is good but the enforcement?  Good luck.

You weigh too little, you don't work. I mean how hard is it..have a freaking Happy Meal already lol.

You are suggesting that telling a woman to do something is easy????

LOL

If I had a job that allowed me to travel around the world, appear in magazines, make a shit load of money, and the ONLY thing I had to do to keep working was GAIN weight, my ass would be at a 5 star Italian place every day! Pasta, Bread, and Olive Oil....mmmmmm. It's the same thing with losing weight...you are always more motivated when someone or some thing holds you accountable, and money is a good motivator lol.

But you have several times suggested things you would not do for money.

I'll bet that several of them will have the same idea and move rather than fit in so to speak.

It's no different than having someone just paid to be your handler, so you can just do your own thing, and they make sure you don't get yourself into too much trouble.

I mean...I guess that's a viable option, if you're lacking that much in self-control.

This runs much deeper.  This goes back to childhood for many of these young ladies/ girls and in most instances the central question(s) they continually ask themselves are, "Am I good enough?" and "Am I thin enough?"  I had a very good college friend of mine who was one of the smartest and most friendly people I have ever known who suffered from bulimia/ anorexia.  She was nowhere near overweight and was very toned, but she could not shake the image out of her head that she was somehow not as thin or as good as she had to be.  When she looked in the mirror, she "saw" a fat pig.  It became too much for her and the world lost a beautiful, smart and talented woman because of this disease.  These young women need to be valued for more than their bodies and given help when needed to deal with their self body image.

and that really never goes away. The same women who were once anorexic also become over eaters later in life many times. We are bombarded with FAKE images that guys try and convince us are real, and how we should look. Do I want to be thinner? Sure, but not for some guy!

crazyshit233 reads

On the other hand, we all have our issues, and we all need to take responsibility for them.

Saying that there are other factors only goes so far in my mind.

Has our culture so abdicated the notion of personal responsibility that we now attempt to legislate self-esteem by controlling the images we are allowed to view? Perhaps we should require mirror manufactures to etch a disclaimer into the glass that reads: "Warning - this device does not reflect your inner beauty."

I actually think it's a good thing, because when you really get into it, they are being deceptive about how the models look. I realize it has always been done, but is this not "about the clothes" and not the model? It's almost like the disclaimers we put on websites...won't really mean a thing, but nice to have one lol.

I just think it's humorous that hobbyists were the ones who started this whole "bait and switch" phrase, and now the model community has also adopted it. I should send them a link to TER bwahahaha.

The mirror over my bed says, "Object larger than they appear." Makes the guys feel good about themselves.

For close to a generation now as a society, we've not been allowed to spank children - Dr Spock should be shot for this IMO, give out first place trophies - must give everyone a 'thanks for showing up' thing, been taught that your actions don't matter - your rough childhood excuses everything and you're valuable for doing nothing, that if you point your finger at someone on a playground and say "bang" that you'll get expelled,  that parents can't pack a kid's lunch for school without abiding by some damn corporate bought-and-paid-for government enforced dietary regulation and that folks can't buy sodas over a certain size. And the litany can go on for more characters than the web can hold...

You're not seriously asking if our culture has abdicated personal responsibility are you?  ;-)

With a touch of sarcasm for good measure.

I have no problem with truth in advertising. But this legislation does not require all marketers to disclose retouching, just women's fashion. I resent such paternal implications that women as a group need extra protections for our delicate egos.

I've not been around much lately so I don't know your particular tone/style. Glad to know you weren't being serious! ;-)  That would have been truly mystifying.... and sad.

I was almost arrested for daring to discipline my child in a restaurant because she was about to run into a busy street, being we were dining outside. Oh yea, so if I let her get killed, I am guilty of negligent homicide, but if I smack her on the ass to sit her down, I am abusive. You can't win.

It is sad that the govt. has to step in and start telling certain businesses what they need to do, when in reality they should have common sense. I remember that Hooters lawsuit where they fired the girl because she no longer fit in the uniform...classic. No one said she had to work there, but the rules state you have to be able to 'fit' in the damn uniform. What's next....making the Dallas Cheerleaders accept women who are over 300 pounds?

-- Modified on 1/3/2013 2:06:41 PM

And of course you're in a no-win situation!  You're not supposed to ever let her get hurt or sick (or you're a bad mommy), experience the consequences of her choices/actions (again, bad mommy), keep her bubble wrapped from any negative influence (but golly, those 'shake your ass' songs 10 year olds sing on Nickelodeon are just fine because its *art*), teach her that she can fuck up as much as she wants and she can always blame you for it (even when she's 40), and keep her in line with a firm talking-to and a time out.  Yeah-fucking-right.  Anyone can look around and see where that line of reasoning (or lack thereof) has gotten us.

which cited medical studies showing that the common Body Mass Index (BMI) is not medically sound as people with a BMI of 25-30 had no more health issues or shorter life span than those with a BMI of 20-25.  25 has been for years the limit of what was considered healthy.  Over 30 BMI, health issues did appear.

So, plump it up a little bit more if you want folks.  I like gals I can sink my teeth into, so to speak.

It's not so much the pounds, but the way they are distributed. For a person at my height to "look" like I weigh 120, I actually need to be about 110. Freaking sucks! I was always that girl at the carnival who won a prize on the "guess my weight" game, because they always guessed higher. My lowest weight was about 97 lbs and that was when I was a freshman in High School. Hell, I thought I looked good then!

My highest weight was 135, and that was waaay too much for my height....I was FAT! Nevertheless, if someone paid me to eat or not eat, you can bet your ass I would do it.

-- Modified on 1/3/2013 10:08:50 AM

UMMMMM????? Aren't you in a way getting paid not to eat. See how your business is if you weigh 140.

If all you mongers got together and said, "Look, if you lose 10 lbs we will give you a guaranteed 500,000 a year," I would starve lol.

I agree that the BMI is not always accurate. I am 5'8" & 116 lbs, with a BMI of 17.6. So, according to the BMI charts, I am considered underweight, but according to my doctor, I am healthy. I can eat anything I want, & I barely gain weight(genetics, as  my father was the same way).

Just because someone is skinny, does not always equate to being unhealthy. Just as there are those who weigh more, but are more healthy than someone in the same height bracket..... it is all dependent on the individual.

Funny how the majority idolize these unhealthy skinny providers as 10/10's.  I am usued to thick, curvy, or just plain natural woman who have full figures.  I was called a fat pig on the LA board not to long ago & it is hilarious because I do not want to be 115lbs too skinny for me. My men prefer a real woman, so enjoy the boney twigs fellas.  I will pass.

Ladies who starve attempting to maintain being skinny get health this new year & eat!  Stay off the drugs too gals because you can only go to the bathroom, so many times before people know your powdering your nose.

You saying skinny girls are unattractive is just as bad as that person from LA saying you were fat...both are opinion based.  I too was called "too fat for LA" so you're not alone ha ha. Funny thing, I get a shit load of requests to visit the West Coast, and all are from Cali.

I could not agree with you more. I like an athletic build, a girl with a little meat on her bones. The skinny girls that are nothing but skin covered bones do nothing for me at all.

MM

Remember: models are supposed to look good with their clothes on.  Most look emaciated without clothes.  I prefer a woman who looks best buck nekkid.  Or maybe with a few wispy shreds of lace.

Blows me away.  I love the fact that she's made it big and she actually has some curves and looks like she gets her 3 squares a day.  I know everyone is different and that's great, but Kate Upton fat?  Ridiculous!

Drinking was bad so ban it.

Smoking is bad, so tax it out of existing.

Limit the size of soda cups you can buy because its bad for you ( a real law that passed in NYC).

Now, you can't be too thin.

I love Big Brother.

People who smoke, drink heavily, consume too much sugar are far more likely to get cancer, liver disease and diabetes.  EVERYONE's medical insurance premium will go up to pay for the medical bills of these people. I for one do not wish to pay for people who do not have the will power to control themselves. Sometimes, government control is necessary.

Not that it will ever happen, mind you.  ;-)

Take away the incentive.

Yes, unhealthy people incur a greater percentage of health care costs which are then passed on to the rest of us.  Instead of the answer being MORE gov't regulation (which hasn't seemed to work so far), try the opposite.  Give people more freedom.  Let those of us who are healthy form our own group plans and thereby reduce our costs while those who are sucking up the resources are left to cover the cost for their own choices.  Simple.  People won't change until it becomes too painful for them to remain unhealthy... and as it is, we feed them into obesity, pay them to stay home and be unhealthy, pay them to have children they can't afford, pay for their knee/hip replacements and motorized wheelchairs (and all the other medical stuff they need) and do it all in the name of 'compassion'. What is compassionate about incentivizing ill health and laziness? What is "fair" about making the rest of us pay for it?  Nothing.  Yet here we are...

My suggestion is that EC run for office...get elected..and take all of this up to the Hill.

Otherwise it's just rhetoric that those who are not motivated to make change debate on boards like this.

Have you written your Representatives and demanded action?  And if so...have you followed up on it?

I don't have the stomach for the BS involved and would rather shoot 99% of politicians/lobbyists than spit on them as they pass, let alone have conversations with them or try to convince them of the simplicity of personal responsibility. ;-)

And yes and yes to your other questions... to no avail.  As expected.

Back on topic, it sure is dumb to try to legislate morals and self-esteem. ;-)

Over the years I have befriended many who are in various levels of elected offices.  Many are now personal friends...while others have just become acquaintances.

Some are VERY smart people...who care VERY much about the people that elected them.  Honestly, very few if any are doing those thankless jobs for the money.  Some would argue that these politicians are ego maniacs and love the power.  Again..get to know some and you'll see that is rarely the issue.

Get to know an alderman, a judge, a local Congressman or Senator and see for yourself.

To paint those who serve as uncaring asswipes is not a fair comment to make...except for those who don't really want to understand and learn.  And if you still believe that your local elected official is NOT serving you and those in that district...there are options.  But for the masses of people who just complain about those who serve...no sympathy is offered here!

I don't believe I said those in elected offices were unintelligent or uncaring or doing things only for the money or power.  Not sure why those points were thought to be relevant.  Not sure if you were speaking to me personally in your "get to know them" and "there are options" comments or if that was a generalized directive and PSA.  If personal, not sure why you'd presume I do not know X number of various officials or that my opinion would be any different if I did.

I simply stated my personal feelings regarding politicians/lobbyists. Posit as you will and fire away.  You do that well.  Oh wait, you already did... my bad.  Carry on. ;-)

Sorry if I misinterpreted your disgust for (y)our elected officials.

And my only comment to be taken from that is simple...get off your ass and enact the changes YOU would like...and not bitch about the current state of affairs.  Or bitch away, but don't blame those who YOU elected to act on YOUR behalf.

Go and lobby for something...anything and be a part of the solution...NOT a part of the problem!

Anyone who has ever tried to effect change via the method of writing one's elected officials knows how futile an exercise it truly is.

Too bad...that's the problem with many in this country.

A little bit of an uphill battle and they quit.

And that's exactly why the same inept politicians can stay well beyond their value.

We are all already paying for those that are too lazy to be motivated enough to even get a job. Those that sit at home, get disability for a condition that others work with everyday, and get government supplemented insurance and a check. Where do you think that money comes from? It comes from the taxes we are forced to pay to cover the lazy asses that won't go out and work for it like everyone else.

I see the abuse of the system first hand everyday. I don't want to work my ass of so that other people can benefit from me, but it is what it is. The current system is flawed and the control that is being considered is a bandaid to the problem that has already been created. The government control you mention is not the answer just another fissure in a broken system.

MM

Last time I checked the only healthcare WE pay for are for those who can't afford to pay it on their own.My premiums have not gone up in over 5 years, so don't know who you are using. Granted, sick people suck up resources but if they have private insurance they PAY for, it's better than those sucking on the govt. teet and not paying a dime.

We have to support certain govt. programs from our tax dollars yes, but I have yet to be taxed on someone with private insurance.

AsianManNOVA272 reads

I guess you never had group insurance through an employer before. My premiums through my company has gone up close to 50% in 5 years and that's actually low compared to other companies. They even explained to us that the reason our premiums went up is because we had too many surgeries and hospitalizations in our company so everyone in our group has to pay more.

That's pretty sad considering I spent the last 7 years in a health related field for school lol.

-- Modified on 1/3/2013 2:53:40 PM

your original post stated that "sometimes government control is necessary" then your last one states group or private insurance through an employer. Private insurance going up because of too any claims is one thing but government control is another.

Either way we all pay more in taxes because of those that do not take care of themselves, and simply think it's somebody elses problem that the goverment will just take care of them. The only government control should be a maximum amount of assistance over the lifetime of the recipient, after that they have to pay for what they get for themselves.

Government should decide anything that effects the "common good". So a one child per couple rule should be enforced. Cars should be banned. People with genetic defects should be eliminated (I'm fucked because I wear glasses) and of course mandatory military service is the rule. Live free angry get locked up.

It almost sounds as if a stricter gun control will lead to the overturn of the 2nd amendment. Of course, many gun zealots think that is exactly what the government will do.

I have fantasies of going up to obese people in the supermarket and looking through their carts and removing all the junk and replacing it with healthy choices and reminding them that my monthly premiums would not be so high if they just took better care of themselves.

Then I realize, I might get slugged and it's really none of my business...oh well, I can dream.

Some people simply cannot seem to maintain a healthy weight due to an injury, surgery, or a thyroid issue. Now, I know many use that as a bs excuse, but for some obese people that is really the reason. I can't eat crap without gaining weight and I have a home gym in my garage lol, so yea...I have no excuse.

According to the BMI calculator I am overweight. I'm sure most of us could lose a few pounds and for me litterally 5 pounds would put in the normal weight range. You can't go by that calculator alone, it's how you feel and are not morbidly obese where the weight is causing other health problems.

I don't think you have anything to worry about, some people simply have higher metabolisms. But as you get older it does slow down, LOL

How about this one. I have to get litterally 600 pound people out of their house to get them to a hospital. They are clinically bed bound. My question is always the same. If they can't get out of bed to eat, how are they 600 pounds?

At that point my health is in jeopardy (not a game played here) lifting them.

BTW I do the same thing when I see some person driving down the street stuffing another twinkie in their face when their belly is touching the steering wheel.

That is just as bad.

You've summed up the devil within socialized medicine. We're forced to contribute to those who refuse to help themselves. It's a difficult balance.

And im going to enjoy every single damned bite of that moist, rich, gooey, chocolatey cake :)
And if you try to take my cake away from me, im gonna slam your skinny ass on the floor and proceed
to sit on you,,
and while your suffocating to death under my big booty, I am happily going to finish eating my cake wash it down with a big glass of good ol' fashion whole milk with a big smile on my face :)

I hate to break this to you..

But back in the day,, for thousands of years up until this century,,

Robust and Rubenesque, was considered healthy,, not skinny, not atheletic but robust..
As a matter of fact,, skinny and thin was considered unhealthy...

Fat-shaming didnt become a trend until the last what? ... 80 years..
And im sorry but we have been shaped, molded and brainwashed into fat-shaming because of media..
Back in the day the biggest cause of death were unhealthy living conditions,, and back then is was class-shaming the poor,, so lets get over ourselves shall we,, This obsession with weight, is in its infancy stage.. dont believe me,, well then I got some very expensive Renaissance paintings id love to show you and what men idolized as beautiful back in the day..
Healthy women were stout, rubenesque with big ol hips for child bearing,,
Popular old school original courtesans were Voluptuous and Curvy with a bountiful chest  and wide hips..

now,, do I think that is an excise to go on an eating binge and bulk up to 250+ pds,, nope not at all
But the scale that we make comparisons to in regards to weight now has dramatically changed..
Whats on the low end of the obese scale now,, was considered healthy for thousands of years
Plump, Chubby, Curvy, Thick,, that was the healthy standard by which others would compare themselves to ..

so lets get off our soapboxes and stop pointing fingers at the fatties..

You want to come up to my grocery cart?
You grab snacks out of my cart and I will smack you over one side of your head with a box of twinkies and over the otherside of your head with a bag of cucumbers..
Ive been to the grocery store too,, ive seen what the skinny girls have in their carts,,
and its not anymore or any less impressive than whats in the fat girls carts..

And actually when it comes down to it,, its NOT what you eat, but how you regulate your eating habits,,
and being active ..
Dont believe me ,, go google " Professor who ate twinkies to prove a point about weight loss"
Feel free to read the article and then go choke on a twinkie

Yes if you eat crap food and dont exercise,, you can get fat
but last time I checked,, lots and lots of skinny people were dropping dead of heart disease as well..

Lets stop blaming the fatties for the worlds medical problems.. shall we ?

you have to excuse me if I dont look in a mirror and cry disgust at how I look..
Yeah im a 20-22 ,, but its my winter weight,, cause im like a bear in the winter and like every year before my goal is to get to a fluffy 14-16 by summer,, and ill do it.. but 20-22/14-16 ,, i look at my wiggly jiggly, curvy hourglass and love every inch of myself..

Im sorry if you feel so very strongly about it,, how's about you go to the gym for three hours and brood over it , sweat it out and drink your protein shake ,, while me and the rest of my fluffy friends enjoy some redwine, olive oil and bread and pasta and a great big ol piece of meat,, you know the really fatty stuff,, that italians have been living off of for years and are considered some of the healthiest people in the world and have some of the longest life expectancies...

again in the immortal words of Digital Underground...
"Hey yo fat girl, c'mere are ya ticklish?
Yeah, I called ya fat look at me, I'm skinny

It never stopped me from gettin' busy
I'm a freak I like the girls with the boom
I once got busy in a Burger King bathroom
I'm crazy allow me to amaze thee

They say I'm ugly but it just don't faze me
I'm still gettin' in the girls' pants
And I even got my own dance"

now if you excuse me,, I hear some rocky road chocolate ice cream calling my name

fat or skinny people. I just posted the article which actually reiterates what you've said about models being rail thin. This is just the opposite, and is encouraging a more "healthy" weight, though I don't think the govt. should be putting their noses in. I think the modeling agencies should be the ones laying down their own laws. I mean if someone is FORCED to gain weight just to keep their job, it says very little about self control or accountability...it's the damn law.

-- Modified on 1/4/2013 11:13:28 AM

London,, no the post was not directed at you..  it directed at Saturnsky and her ignorant posts

The post was directed at people who claim to think that the nations medical premium hikes are due to fat people ,,

When ive seen many many many skinny people put garbage down their throat and drop dead of heart disease..

Plus it was a general rebuttal to the overall misconception of what healthy is, because, we have been lead to believe a very skewed way of seeing beauty because of media.. and what we in our current state consider healthy,, has only evolved in the last 80 years,, when humans have been around for thousands,,

I regards to the law,, I think its interesting.. sometimes to change a way of thinking extreme measure need to be taken..
I mean if they are thinking of their future generations and what they want them to think is healthy and want to start changing that status quo,, it certainly makes an interesting point..
And its the agencies that force  models to starve themselves,, I know this because Ive worked as an Art director and have been present for some brutal model calls,, and have seen a casting director tell a girl who is flawless that she needs to get to 2 inch thinner somewhere, by such and such a date and i dont care what you have to do get it done..
so being forced to gain weight is no different than being forced to lose weight,, and agencies have gotten out of hand..
and then that starved image gets put on print,, and that leads young ladies to starve themselves to fit that image.. and you can tell agencies all they want that is not a healthy practice,, but they will continue..

This isnt an issue of fat or thin ,, the problem is that most of our culture has an unhealthy relationship with food,, and its starting to have a damaging impact on our children.. bulimia, anorexia, obesity..
Its killing our kids..

A weight limit that you have to stay above,,, frankly I think thats brilliant..
Something that makes the agency accountable for what they do to their models,, awesome
I think forcing the issue that thin is not in, but healthy is in,,, is fantastic..
Israel wants to set a standard,, and I wholeheartedly agree with it.
Afterall we are talking about the middle east,, where for thousands of years,, they have always loved their women jiggly,, its where Belly Dancing originated from,, and let me emphasis BELLY.. part of the allure of the dance was the flesh that Danced, when the body moved,,

Its time to come out of the thin closet and start accepting that women in all shapes and sizes are beautiful and can be presented beautifully versus that one standard that we have been choking on for the last 80 years..

*standing ovation for Israel*

But the Reader's Digest version would be:

A) I'm glad you profess to have a positive image of your body.  That's a rare thing for any female of any weight.

B) Do you really place the blame for "fat shaming" just on the media?  Not the WHO, CDC, the Surgeons General, NIH, USDA, NNCOR, and scores of other agencies and universities which have done extensive studies into the negative impact of excess weight on people's health (that negative impact then being transferred to rest of us via increased costs associated with health care and numerous other avenues)? I'm no fan of gov't agencies but when enough of them come to the same conclusion, you'd have to be a tinfoil-hat conspirator to think something's seriously amiss in their findings.

C) The media (in general, but with exceptions) have long since given up on having any sort of journalistic integrity and are just short of an extension of the political machine. I would agree that it certainly deserves a significant amount of responsibility in skewing many of our perceptions. But to minimize the burden on society of overweight/obese people simply because it's being reported in the media is patently ridiculous.

D) The Renaissance masters' ideals and social norms for beauty existed during the era when people believed the earth was flat, Christians didn't burn or drown (only witches burned/sank), the pope truly ran the world and that if you were lucky/rich enough to be plump/fat it meant that god favored you. Added to that is the fact that the life expectancy was just a fraction of what it is now and it often involved very heavy physical labor.  So *of course* living long enough and leisurely enough to be plump/fat was a rarity and seen as "good".

E) I find it sad that you think of yourself as an animal that has to gorge itself for winter to survive.  Wouldn't simply maintaining whatever weight you like yourself at be healthier (and easier!) than the yo-yo thing?

F) Italians (or most Europeans for that matter) tend to live entirely different lifestyles than Americans do (work fewer hours, vacation more, have closer family/community ties, walk/exercise more, watch less TV, eat less processed food, do less bingeing, etc) so perhaps *that* has just a tad to do with their obesity/health rate than just eating "the really fatty stuff" as you say.

G)  Love the Humpty Dance!  It's a fun one you can't really help but groove to. ;-)

The Reader's Digest version ?
Who even reads that anymore ?

Oh wait ,, were you trying to be clever? Thats cute,, how is that working out for you?

By the way you listed some agencies that dont even deal with that aspect of research..

And actually you blanket statement on their research and findings are directed at morbidly obese,,
and recent studies have come out that have said, its not fat that kills you ,, its bad fat that kills you,,
And even better, there have been studies released that say that a little chub isnt gonna kill ya,,
And that maintaining a BMI of 20-30% and a size 12-16 is ideal..

So you might want to put your pretty little head back in a book..

what is it again,, trans fat versus saturated fat,,

Again, going its going back to our cultures unhealthy relationship with food..

And yes I am minimizing the burden that fat people have on society, because our nations health issues and the rising cost of medical premiums dont exclusively come from there,, there has been an  expenential increase in terminal illness due to Cancer, which doesnt boil down to fat,, it boils down to mutated DNA.. which can be found in just as many skinny people as in fat ones..
And smoking,, which last time I checked wasnt an issue exclusive to fat people..
Heart Disease, which isnt mutually exclusive to fat people either..
SuperStrains of Viruses, because we have over medicated the population and have created weakened immune systems ,,

Plus its also highly ignorant to believe that drug companies and insurance companies have your best interest at heart,, they dont make money in preventative measures , they dont make money in cures,, they make money on sick people,, and if you dont think reports and research has been altered to make it look like it one particular groups fault for the rise in health care ,, that those same drug companies and insurance companies give money to to write,, so as a nation we can point fingers at a particular group while those companies behind closed doors are laughing all the way to the bank,, when in fact its been brought to light several times that they blatantly bend us over for the sake of their profits then you need to do some more research,,

Its not a tin-foiled hat conspiracy,, when facts and evidence to it have been put right in front of us..

To continue to point fingers at the fat people for the nations rise in medical costs is ignorant and lazy because its scape-goating.. lets focus on the fat people,, while we still have chemicals and toxins being pumped into our air, our foods , our environment that are just as much to blame for our nations deteriorating health as fat is..

So I invite you to expand your mind a little past what you have been told is the truth..
I know this may be a difficult step for you and can be kinda scary but you might learn something.

And when I say media im talking about advertising, promotions and marketing,, the fashion and entertainment industry who gave us Kate Moss and said that was the standard to compare too..
When Nicole Richie who was a chubby went a dramatically lost so much weight that you could see rib bones.. thats the kind of media Im talking about.. our children dont give two shits about journalism.. thats not what they watch on TV or are exposed to in magazines..

You want to ignore what the media outlets have forced as the standard of beauty for the last 80 years,  and have caused an epidemic of children dying due to trying to fit in with those standards,, be my guest.

You find it sad that I referred to myself as a bear in the winter,, when the reference was to the fact that I am less active in the winter,, and stay in more..  my eating habits dont change except around the holidaze
But since you had to point that out and it saddened you ,, let me hand you a tissue,, to wipe away those tears.. I get a clean bill of health at every checkup, my blood pressure is awesome, my blood is clean, my cholesterol levels are below the norm,, a yo-yo ,, 20-22 to a 14-16,, thats not a yo yo reallyits a matter of 6 inches and thats not alot,, and im happy being less active in the winter and more active in the summer.. and it doesnt have any profound effects on my health,, so please dry your eyes and dont worry about me..

now in regards to the way people think,, I used the renaissance as a reference point,, and again
life expectancy was shorter due to poor living conditions and disease from pnuemonia, the plague, dissentary, pox, viruses,, not due lack of exercise or an over abundance of eating..
And artists back then were our form of advertizers now ,,
You think because we know the world is round now,, that we are healthier ? LMAO
We can go back further if you like to The Roman empire, and make references to again voluptuous. plump, curvy, chubby women being the norm,, and their life expectancies were greater than ours..
Do we go back further to biblical times when life expectancies were double ?
We could go back to hunter/gatherer,, but I wouldnt want you to hurt your head thinking too much

But then again that sudden shift in life expectancies might have something to do with those additional two months being put on the calendar so a year was 12 months versus 10..

And thanks for that European way of life lesson,, but no I was actually making a point to reference Italians because their eating habits and the food they put into their system have been a source of documentation and research on health because of the food they eat is exorbitantly fatty and yet they maintain to be some of the healthiest people in the world....
It has nothing to do with over eating fatty foods,, it has to do with regulating your blood sugar,, and italians eat the fatty stuff alll day long and live on wine and olive oil which happen to be good at keeping the blood clean..  and maintain healthy lifestyles and some of the longest life expectancies in the world..

you see here we have a habit of extremes,, either over eating/binging or starving..
Excess of anything , Extreme of anything is unhealthy..

For someone who loves herself so much, you sure have a lot of anger to spew on others when they don't buy into your fantasy world and warped way of thinking.  I suppose you've saved me the time of attempting rational discussion (we did have some points in common that we could have built on) and I shall simply leave the convo with the hope that one day you get the counseling you so clearly need.

Catrina, I don't think Saturn was trying to impose anything and she did clarify that she was not talking about all people with a weight problem. Fact is, many obese people are NOT happy with themselves and they do in fact eat crap all day long and get very little exercise. I also agree that there are many thin people who also do the same things, but never gain weight due to a high metabolism...I hate those types lol.

There is some truth to Edrienne's post as well, and I don't think she intended it to sound bitchy, but maybe that is how you took it. We are all responsible for our own lives, and that is really the bottom line. If YOU are happy at the weight you are now and are healthy, bravo, but many women have low self esteem because they are not a size 2.

I don't think any of us has the right to look down on a person just because they weigh more or less than we do....that much I can agree with. It is almost as if a fat person is viewed more disgusting than a skinny girl even if that thin girl is a crack addict. I don't get that at all, but I have certainly seen it. Running an agency with all shapes, sizes, and races the guys always seem to go for the drug addicts just because they are thin. Makes zero sense to me.
