And have him send a cease and desist order. Also blackmail is illegal, a felony.

He could be also in trouble for Human Trafficking.

What this person is doing is clearly extortion, which is a serious felony that could send him to jail for a long time.

I would consult an attorney who might be able to convince this guy to back off, and failing that, nailing him, though that will cost you your privacy.

As for scrubbing the internet, it is not easy but there are some techniques that others here can offer, but it may be a case of closing the barn door after the horse has run out.

I wish you the best of luck in stopping this asshole.

I would go this route also of getting an attorney. 7 years??? This guy obviously has issues. DO NOT give him any additional info. DO NOT see him again. Once you have retained a lawyer ONLY communicate this info to your stalker and tell this person that the only communication now with you should be done through your lawyer. Document everything that he does and says to you. He is of course trying to intimidate you, don't let him. He is in the wrong, not you. Do not let him get the upper hand. Stay strong, you've got this!

and should be treated accordingly.  You should get legal advice on this, but from what you said it’s a clear case of blackmail, which is a federal crime (also a state crime in every state).  I expect the authorities would be more interested in prosecuting a blackmailer than an escort who retired years ago.

You could let this asshole know that what he’s doing is blackmail, and if he doesn’t drop it you will work with the FBI and local LE to prosecute him.  And be sure to save all of his communications about this.  I am hoping you know his real identity, in case the authorities need it.  I’m thinking he won’t risk being charged with blackmail and also being exposed to his company, his family, and his friends as a “John” and a blackmailer.

This really sucks.  I hope you’re able to get this guy to crawl back into his hole and leave you alone.

Unfortunately, there's almost no way to avoid a really unpleasant outcome. Only by hitting him right between the eyes do you stand a chance.  You need to get a lawyer immediately. Also be sure to save every communication you've gotten from this dirtbag Whatever you do, don't give in to him.

That would be an escalation tactic and we have to assume he would respond in kind.

Don’t telegraph any of your moves to the blackmailer until you’ve actually consulted with a lawyer and/or law enforcement.

You might also check on the statutes of limitation for prostitution where you have seen the guy causing this problem. Doesn't help with the privacy aspect, and that might be a high cost for you, but at least you would know going to a lawyer if you also faced any criminal charges if you seek a legal solution to the extortion.

You might also post on the Legal Board Legal Corner) as we definitely have some lawyers in the audience.

him that if he doesn't cease and desist, you will go to court and get a temporary restraining order pending a motion for a permanent injunction.  The lawyer should tell him that, even if the permanent injunction is not granted, the TRO will remain on his record and show up on all background checks he might be subject to in the future.  The question for the perp is, "Is it going to be worth it?"  In most cases, having a TRO permanently on his record is NOT worth whatever he hopes to gain by his current actions.   The communication should be a few hundred dollars, and if the TRO becomes necessary, a couple of thousand tops, but then you have fucked him over for life.  Everything you tell your lawyer about your background is privileged and cannot be disclosed, but you should tell him anyway and let him figure out how to sanitize it a little for the TRO application.  Emphasize the current harassment and threats to do you harm aspects.

If this doesn't make the douche back off, better call Saul and ask if Huell is available.

There is no state that would prosecute her for prostitution that many years ago. Prostitution is a misdemeanor in all 50 states. Even in the most stringent states for misdemeanors they will only go back 6 months. There ARE states where solicitating a prostitute is a felony, so it is possible that he could possibly get a charge for this, as some states will go back 7+ years for a felony.

COULD go to the police if she wanted to with little concern for admitting to prostitution that many years ago.  If the douche is asking for money, the police may be willing to set up a sting on the blackmail, but I did not suggest that because she will not get the discretion from the police like she would a lawyer as I recommended in my post below.

Sorry, but not everyone in the World is nice. Unfortunately, you need to protect yourself at this point. Get the best attorney to contact him, so he knows he can’t take advantage of you. Boss up. I’ve been blackmailed by an old client & I did the same thing. My lawyer ended that nonsense immediately. Do not respond to him.

You should be able to find an Internet "Reputational" consultant that can provide advice on how to scrub your provider stuff from the Internet.  I have known a few providers that are going through the same horror show as you.  As others have said:  Rule No. 1, hire a good lawyer, Rule No. 2, follow Rule 1.  Rule No. 3, never, never, engage or respond to the stalker.

You beat me to it: there are companies that claim that they will scrub you from the internet (google "scrub me from the internet") but I also agree with you and everyone else: HIRE A GOOD LAWYER. Let the lawyer deal with the stalker. Let the lawyer be your intermediary with any scrubbing agency. Etc..
.
But then there is the question of finding a good lawyer and the right lawyer for what the OP needs. She doesn't need a "personal injury" (ambulance chaser, car crash or lead paint) lawyer. Her state should have a legal services phone number that might have a list (but cannot make an actual recommendation other than to tell you about any complaints against a particular lawyer). Her state bar association might have a lawyer referral line.
.
OTHERS: What sort of lawyer should the OP be seeking? Should she say, "I have a stalker and I need a lawyer to file a restraining order." Is that enough? Should she add more info? Should she mention extortion? Any other key terms to get to the best lawyer? Once she has contacted one or more lawyers, she should talk to them. Some lawyers offer an hour of free or low cost consultation. Do their answers or feedback seem reasonable?  What about Law School legal clinics? I don't think that the OP should rely on a Law School clinic to take on her case, but can they provide advice to find a local lawyer?  Can they search recent law cases for any lawyer in the area that has handled related cases?
.
Also, after choosing a lawyer, you can always change lawyers, if necessary. I'm sure that others reading this thread have had to change lawyers every now and then for various reasons: "Not returning my calls." "Missed the deadline to file that simple form and cost me big bucks."
.
Any other "How to find the right lawyer" advice for the OP?
.
GOOD LUCK!!

You want to get witnesses BEFORE he exposes you.  Right now he is putting himself in prison if he does expose you, but without witnesses he can claim it wasn't him who exposed you.  But his paper trail of threats BEFORE exposing you if witnessed BEFORE exposing you puts him in an untenable position.  His denials would be contradicted by witness testimony.
.
So consult a lawyer, and start building a raster of witnesses -- on advice of counsel, of course.
.
I think once your lawyer informs him of his liability he'll reconsider.  Unless he likes prison life.

Is this dude married? Since he's so well known, keep all of his communications from him but do not respond to them.

I would think if he a mover and a shaker in the community he wouldn't want anyone knowing about HIS endeavors in this private community either. I'd get in touch with a criminal attorney asap. He them send a cease-and-desist letter asap.

I'm really hoping HE has a lot to lose as well. If so that may make him stop! I'm sorry you are being harassed and blackmailed by this jerk.

When I hear "criminal attorney," I think of criminal DEFENSE atty, like Perry Mason. Such an atty should know BOTH sides of the law (how to help the criminal defendant AND how to help the target of a criminal perpetrator) but are there any other suggestions to help the OP find the best legal help?
.
Where to get the best local recommendations (State Bar Assoc? Legal Aid Society? ...).
What info to give to the operator / front desk person to get directed to the right specialty.
- Is "I need a restraining order" enough?
- Should the OP mention the extortion threats?
- Etc.

First, I want to make it perfectly clear...I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH EVERY ONE HERE THAT HAS SUGGESTED YOU CONTACT AN ATTORNEY.

Now, with that out of the way, you may consider hiring a private investigator (PI) to check this guy out.  You said, in one of your responses, that he is a wealthy man and you both share a lot of common connections.  He may actually have more to lose than you currently think.  A good PI may be worth their weight in gold if they dig something up on him that equalizes the power equation between you and your threat.

An attorney will most likely want to hire a PI to check him out anyway.  If you hire a PI yourself, you may save some time, money and you may very well have more information to share with an attorney once you hire one.

I don't know anything about you other than what you have divulged in this thread.  I don't have any idea what this guy’s end game is.  There are a few questions that it would be good to know the answer to:

1. You said that you look completely different than you did as a provider.  When you were a provider, did you use a pseudonym?  Do you have plausible deniability that the ads and other info he claims to have on you isn’t really you?  In this great big world, there are lot of people whose pictures look “alike”.

2. You said that he sent you an email at work.  How did he get your work email address?  Have you responded to the email he sent you (I certainly hope not)?

3. You said that you have his real-world information.  How do you have his real-world info?  Is that knowledge that you have received recently for some reason, or have you kept it for this long?  If you have saved it from the past, why have you kept his real-world information for 7 years?

Under no circumstances should you personally interact with him in any way.  No conversations of any type.  Don't accept or make any phone calls between you two, no texts, no emails, etc.  DO NOT REPLY to any outreach he attempts until you have an attorney on retainer.  After you have an attorney, follow the instructions your attorney gives you TO THE LETTER.

Good luck and I hope this dirt bag get what’s coming to him.

I have experienced this first hand. Do not take advice from people who have no idea wtf to do. I am emailing you personally my escort friendly attorney who has helped me on more, than one occasion successfully. He is the best attorney & if he can not help you he can refer someone in your area who is an expert dealing with respectful working women. Best of luck beautiful! Xoxo
