and thats the rub that we rarely look at. The small percentage of real world relationships that have the wonderful sex and genuine connection that doesn't dry up or evaporate with time.

  10% is a guess based solely on the folks I've known in my life so far. But I think its pretty close.

  The people in those relationships devote a tremendous amount of energy to them. What's kind of interesting is that they don't seem to think of them as "work" rather truly a labor of love. I know only maybe 5 couples who fall into this category. Three have kids two don't. One couple, each of whom were married before, have been together for 30 years married for 26. Another has never married, because they are "afraid it would screw things up".

  Life is so damn strange. Mine has been a real rambling path. I just hope that its lead me to a place where I'll recognize the opportunity when it presents itself and have the courage to risk trying it.

What you describe is so elusive for most of us... good luck and I hope you find her (them)... it's not only possible, it's probable, but as you say, will I be ready when it presents itself?

awareness of yourself and who you are/what you really want first and foremost.  Past that, there is making the right choice in a mate (someone else who is similarly aware), then effort, luck, and a desire to have love of your partner be as important as money, family, career, or anything else.  

It's there, if you want it bad enough.
