Web Site suggestions...

While the general quality of provider websites ranges from good to amazing (much more than I can say about my own business site, I might add), there are two things I occasionally see on provider sites that really bug me.

1) Automatically playing music, or worse playing an explicit message from the provider welcoming you to their site.

The problem for me is that I'm not expecting the music clip and the sudden blare of music coming through the speakers is not pleasant, but more importantly can be very conspicuous if there is another person within ear shot.  Other Person: "What was that!" Me (quickly hitting the previous page button) "Oh, nothing..."

In the case of a recorded message from the provider, well if the music was conspicuous, "Why don't you cum join me?" is, uh... even harder to explain.

So, IMHO, if you want to feature any audio on your site, please default it to "no music" and then allow the user to turn it on if they so desire.

2)  Special Effects: Those really clever "wipes", "dissolves" and other spiffy effects may seem cool the first time but they are really annoying.  Now I happen to have a really fast internet connection (T3), so maybe I'm in the minority on this, but for me it's agonizing to wait for those trick little effects to come to an end so that I can see what I was looking for.  More likely I'll get annoyed and just bail out of the site entirely.

I know I’m nit picking, but providers occasionally ask what we think about sites, so I thought I’d give my 2 cents.

The bottom line about websites is that it all depends on who's doing the website and why.  A site could range from a provider doing her own at geocities to a provider paying a professional designer to do it. Sometimes cost is a factor.  Sometimes a provider makes a barter deal with somebody to do a site--and what she gets depends upon the skill of the website designer (and the terms of the deal).

I know a couple of providers who've done their own and they think their websites are beautiful (I think they're not but don't have the heart to tell them).

I find myself wondering about the future of providers' websites...now that it appears LE in many places are using websites (and places like this) to go fishing.

I agree...too many effects even on a fast connection is annoying.  ALso having to search for the basic info such as rates, gallery, etc.  THe comment about the loud music is so true.  Silence please!  I turn off the sound when perusing sites because of this.

right up front, particularly if you don't list a phone number. There are some sites that offer no clue about the city or areas she serves.

That is so very true!
I hate the music on some of the websites, talk about not "clever"
They should put an off button!

Provider sites with sound is like dancers who wear glitter.  Most guys don't like it because its difficult to explain to others (or more importantly the signigicant other).
