I don't see why we need to reduce this down to a bunch of categories.  On the other side of the transaction is a person and a human being.  Now, whatever you may think about her or she may think about you...that's the truth.

And I just believe in some basic human respect.  And some of the stuff that you wrote, while perhaps accurate, just reduces the other person down to a category.  And I'll be honest...while I'm guessing you were not meaning to be hurtful or insulting in any way, it definitely can come off that way.

Lots of people seek out the company of escorts for different reasons.  Maybe for one guy it's that he wants to experience fucking the hottest girls he could ever imagine, and that he has zero chance with in any other lifetime.  Maybe for another guy, he can fuck all these girls, but it's just easier to pay them to come and leave, with no obligations otherwise.  Maybe for another guy, he is lonely and seeking companionship.

And you could make the same argument or case for the other side.  Maybe she is doing this for quick and easy money because she is living beyond her means.  Or maybe she does this because she loves sex and it's easy.  Or maybe this is the only thing she can do to put money on the table, and she is literally selling herself in order to just survive.

I mean...everyone here comes from all walks of life, and I, for one, just find it maybe a little simplistic and perhaps insulting to just categorize people in this way.  I know one girl who is literally doing this to survive.  She is living on foodstamps and has a daughter and a shitty living situation, and has literally called me when she needs money.  She has offered me bodyrub sessions for $80, coming all the way out from Brooklyn to Manhattan just to make a measly $80 so she can make sure she can feed her daughter and herself.

I can't also assume that the woman in the $5000 worth of clothes and jewelry is one of your "Cat 1" women, and that she has it made.  Maybe she is doing it because she has a sick family member.  Or because she needs the affirmation because really she feels that this is all she has ever known that she is "good" at--which might not at all be true.

So while I can understand the humor in your post in some ways, I guess what I'm saying is that maybe we should just appreciate the other person for who she is.  Rather than categorize them or assume we know anything about them (because we really don't), let's just appreciate our time with them.

If we don't get along with someone, let's just say it didn't work, and move on.

Those who recognize that sex workers are people. And, as people, they are as varied and diverse as other people and cannot be categorized.

Those that cannot seem to stop themselves from thinking that sex workers fall into some special category of people who need to categorized, simply because they are sex workers.

Does it represent the freedom to live a certain lifestyle?  Does it represent a way to fulfill other financial obligations?  Does it represent, literally, survival?  Does it represent affirmation, because she doesn't get it any other way?

We don't know, and the gist of your categorization is, yes, they do it for different reasons, but I would suspect that most providers who do it do it not just for the money, but for what that money represents.

I'm just saying that it reduces things down to certain buckets or categories that really don't capture the whole story.  And to think that we would know...man, we can could get into some deep and heavy stuff.

This is nice work, besides being funny and, sad to say, too true.  One advantage to having a typology in mind when seeing providers is that it can help immunize against the feeling of total chumphood that's often more of a risk in these encounters than contracting an STD.

As for providers no doubt they all employ some similar system in re clients to help distance themselves emotionally.  And as much as I might occasionally wonder how I might be categorized, this concern pales in comparison to the Am-I-Enjoying-Myself concern.

And categories aside, nothing beats the ability and willingness of provider and client alike to treat the other with at least a plausible semblance of respect, as long as it is deserved.  Such treatment can help smooth over the hurt and disappointment that accompany the fact of living in a less than perfect world.
