Interesting read on changing face of prostitution...errr I meant "providing".

"What blew me away is 41% of surveyed online sex workers were college graduates. It seems to show -- online prostitution has gotten quite sophisticated"

Some stuff is obvious but interesting that it's being documented.

Most ladies involved in on line vs street walking sex work are highly educated, experienced, run successful business ventures and have vast knowledge of e-biz.
commerce.

Like in any e-commerce enterprise those with best skill set prosper.

I agree.. not a surprise at all that many are college educated...I'm one of them, twice, but for now, the job market sucks, and this pays more, and you get to have fun while doing it:)  But when I retire, I'll have 2 degrees to fall back on!!

Besides, working in human services in the "real" world is an extremely depressing job, and I didn't realize that when I chose it at age 18. Most cases you get referred to are people that DON'T want to be helped, and it's just not worth it.. at least I can use some of what I learned in this business, and the majority of my clients leave happy:)

displayed by many hobbyists who are convinced that escorts don't reflect the same general eductaion levels as the men or the rest of the general population.

In all my years of seeing escorts, nearly every one of them has had a graduate degree or an undersgraduate degree taken with honors.  Most are amazingly good business women - but they tend not to exppose that side of themselves to their customers for some reason.  So, the 41% happens to be no surprise at all - at least noD me.

I was quoting somebody's reaction to the 41% figure.

I don't know why the study's authors find the referral system so fascinating.

In civvie life no woman will willingly refer her lover to another female.  If she does, something is seriously wrong with that guy and she hates the girl.

In this world ladies soon realise that (1) they do not "own" their patrons and (2) it is safer to utilise referral system than to rely on job verification.

There's no real shock in that statistic. I think if people were being honest, a lot more college grads have tried this life and it's not for many so they drop out pretty quickly. You may have some other options, but here is something to consider. You'll be hard pressed to find a better individual entrepreneurial opportunity with a real buyable product in any industry than what you have here. If providers would learn how to deal with all the quick money that they are earning rather than buying those silly lucite heels, there might be more success stories. I only have only anecdotal evidence, but very few providers leave this life with enough money to do something else other than return to the work world where those degrees won't mean much after a couple of years performing here. Aside from those providers with very good technical skills, information and processes change all the time, you have to stay abreast of things, you have to continue to read and go to seminars and other forms of education. That goes for all of us.

bonanza...
You men want to believe we lie back and rack it in. LOOOOTS of ladies in the biz... lots of ladies not charging much.  Its a rat race like any business.

The same idea when I was a stripper.
You know I would be in a club .. no pay, working as contract labor...literally 200 plus girls there to dance , having to pay not only the  club, dj, house mom, etc to even step in the door... most of the girls wouldn't even make it to the stage but the mindset was every girl would make a kiilling ?
it's  a myth.  its NOT easy money.  So you goofy people who want to talk about women NOT doing right with ALL the money we are making.. don't know what you are talking about.

I get tired of you clueless folks who judge without really knowing.

The teeny amount of luxury I buy myself.. which isn't much ... I well deserve.

All true, and thank you for your honest comments. Whether one has have a toned slender body like yours, or a curvy BBW body like mine, there are literally hundreds of other ladies in every city who each want a slice of pie. I am just glad to get enough to pay my bills and save a little.

Oh, and luxury? What is that? For me, it's the grande white mocha skim no whip decaf I get at Starbucks on the way to the grocery store, and OPI some nail polish. I am really just living it up here, rolling in all this imaginary dough!!

I think you're reading more into what I saying and I really didn't put a quantifier in the money you can or cannot make. I know ladies who make plenty and yes, there is a line and I know ladies willing to do a lot more for a lot less and lots of ladies are not having their phones ring with the same consistency. So you are right, the money is relative.

The topic was about having a much more educated woman to enter the hobby and I opined that the ones that make good money had better do something more than piss it away on party favors and useless nonsense. So while you may not be making the money you hoped for or want, there are quite a few relatively well-reviewed ladies whose business has not dropped off and still make quite the haul. To suggest that all or even most are struggling is fiction. Whatever the figure is, your reaction to my post was more emotional about what you think I was saying.

But I did go to strip clubs. I noticed some strippers got so many dollars given to them per 15 minute session on stage that they had to come back on stage with a bucket to pick up the money, I saw two ladies that needed an assistant with a second bucket to help pick up their money on each turn. I saw some that filled two to five buckets per 15 minute session at the most popular clubs.

Stripping is a business where the young and hot make money, older and not as attractive strippers do not make nearly as much money. In the clubs where I saw the top young strippers filling buckets, I saw late twenty something strippers making no money other than sympathy money. I saw beautiful, but late twenty something strippers who had exceptional looks, but made nothing because of their age and less youthful body. The information that I provided is what I witnessed with my eyes.

I met three providers who were realestate and stock investors using their earnings. One was a Canadian who owned realestate back home and purchased an apartment in NYC, and was buying stock of highly rated US and Canadian. The second was an US citizen who invested in grade AAA stocks and purchased undeveloped land. The third was accumulating warehouses and was running a legal service business which I won't describe. I met a fourth provider who explained that she made 5 grand per week at her peak but blew it on trips to Vegas. The fourth woman explained that the money was so easy to come by that she did not realize that it would not last forever. Earnings are relative. I doubt that a provider who is hauling in cash would state so on TER or any other forum other than the pillow, some won't even make such declarations while on a pillow.

I agree with your assessment. Hot, successful providers who use their money for accumulating assets while avoiding buying toys and paying for living expenses for an SO are rare, but they are out there.

just offering a different opinion...I'm very young, and very attractive. I have about 4 "expensive" things. 3 pairs of Jessica Simpson shoes which are about 60$-80$ a pair and one coach bag that was 278$ which is old. The money I make (5 grand a month) escorting allows me to have a nice place, have my child in a nice private pre K, pay my bills, pay for my school and books, cover the cost and expenses of being an escort (lingerie, decor, ads, website costs, new photo shoot) . But beyond that I have a 8 year old car, clothes from a normal store at the mall, and if I want anything beyond this I need to work a lot more (which would cut away from family time). For me it's not as easy as it seems from the outside looking in but I know its different for the girls who do not have children.

Not saying this is true for every area and club/dancer, and it may not be true now, but when I was dancing (in my early to mid-twenties), dollar tips on stage were maybe 10% of my income. I don't look or act like the stereotypical young, hottie stripper, so stage time was not my forte -- I was probably one of the ladies you thought was getting pity tips and making nada. ;) Pity not required! I couldn't have cared less if I had a rain of dollar bills coming down on me or not. If I could, I stayed OFF stage so I could spend more time approaching individuals, where the real money was. Where I earned the bulk of my income was in VIP, away from prying eyes.

(And I don't mean selling extras -- I was a just-a-dance dancer, the kind universally loathed by those who go to strip clubs in search of P4P :D -- but I did relatively well selling "packages" of dances/time.)

I was a stripper for over 10 years.  In my youth but admittedlly pre-boob job.
The women who made money.. weren't due to their youth.. the ones that made money were stone cold hustlers.

One girl who did happen to be young use to tell men she needed money to pay for tuition... she wasn't in school.. ha ha  I always admired her.

great hustle.

other ladies ... had little to do with their youth or 'beauty'... they just knew how to play it.  I always had a difficult time lying and cheating people... nice to hear some customers perspective.. but Me... i was in the dreesing room.. in the real deal.  'BEAUTY' and 'YOUTH' didn't seem to have much to do with it.  (-:

Oh but you're probably the expert... I'm sure all the really pretty girls made lots of money and inversted in stocks... right?

The article was right about "screening" made a world of difference in advent of the internet.  With that, more ordinary women feel safe enough to venture into the business (for the easy money and for the fun).  That changed provider-population quite a bit.  Internet customers are more upscale as well; that made some difference in self-selecting the provider-population.

Streetwalkers are different.  Those women are more like people fell off the cliff.  The article failed to point out another big difference - internet providers generally charge a lot more than their counterpart on the streets - that alone says a lot.

No, women do not have to beat off many competitors like stripers have to in order to make money.  Some providers I know of went into the business directly from all sort of professions.

Some years ago, I would meet with a favorite, very pretty stripper in Chicago. One day she asks me for $700.00 rent money - I ask tell me more.  She shows me her jeans pocket, says on the subway coming downtown today, I got pick pocketed - some tears.  I almost bite, but look at her jeans and there's no way you could have gotten in if your fingers were as slim as cellophane.  I smile and say no.  Then watch her go right to another table, and overhear the same story.

Strippers are a waste of good resources. I don't want to get ground down into submission for $20 tips. I'd rather fuck. As for internet customers, there's more disposable income, but they can be just as fucked up as the next guy (stalkers, murderers, etc,). Ladies, no matter their orientation, come here for the cash or the potential of it. Strippers get turned all the time because competing with 200 women a night as someone has suggested has to be exhausting. Let's be real. The hot women who can fuck and bring it night after night are make loads of cash, this week, every week. The ones with brains turn that into other businesses, get advanced degrees, invest and make the "right" connections to get ahead. If you have less than that work for you, I am betting as Alea said, the income is decidedly average. What that average is, who knows. As for the difference between internet providers and street whores, in many cases, not that much. Their pimps are cleaning them up enough to work the internet and use the BP, CL and other low budget sites to attract a certain audience and they do well from what I understand.  To make money here of an amount that we all might agree is good, one has to have the temperament for it. How many ladies have you met that don't find the success and end up working to pay their bills with a job and supplement it doing this biz? We all know and have met the full spectrum if you've done this for any length of time, the key is knowing what you want and paying for the value you expect. When ladies see someone and he's one and done, she's got to work on her mojo or perhaps this is not the right venue. Education might help someone make the right decisions with money, business, etc., but it does nothing to prepare you for this world. I've met lawyers and MBAs who've done it and not all that successfully.
