I am at binghamton new york state, and I saw this ad on craigslist of this girl named ashley with no phone but only email.  So I emailed her and she replied saying that I need to go to this web site: bella-dates.com/ashley and to give my credit card to charge me 1 dollar for reservation and verification that I am not a cop.  has anyone tried this before?  is this for real?

1. NEVER give out  your credit card info to unknown people on the internet.  Even with high-end providers this is usually a cash-only business.

2. Let's pretend you're lucky enough to randomly pick an honest service.  Using your credit card leaves a paper trail right-back-to-you.  

3.   NEVER search for providers on Craig's List.  CL's erotic section is often targeted by LE.  

Try this: join a verification service like P411, then cross-check their provider list against the reviews you see on TER.

I've used three agencies that required a deposit upfront and never had a problem. I also noticed that the quality of the women was a hell of alot better. I think the high end services all use credit cards now.

This is about a site scamming.
What happens is that your CC will be billed for the minute amount. They will then bill you monthly $39.95 on an automatic recurring basis, unless you cancel. Even then, you can have problems with them billing you, causing you to have to initiate a charge back.  
I happen to have a friend who fell for this very scam.
I want to distinguish that there is a difference.

everyone has given you good advice.  Don't even think about it.  There are two reasons for someone doing this: There is a very common scan now where scammers get large numbers of cards and bill small regular amount hoping the victims will not notice. Ten thousand cards times $1.10 for a few months is worth it and most people don't even notice the small charge.  More disastrous for you is the second possibility that she (or more likely he) will sell your credit card data around and before you know there will be hundreds of thousands of dollars charged by various people in strange places.
These people should be tracked down, locked up, and forced to listen to an infomercial for a food processor continuously for ten years.

Do not, I repeat DO NOT give your credit card information or a deposit to any unknown provider or agency over the internet. For that matter don't do it period. The only exception to giving a deposit is if you are expecting to lady to travel or if you are reserving a large block of her time. Even then, ONLY send a deposit if the provider or agency is well known and well reviewed.

A deposit is common practice with many ladies. Usually a gent will send a lady a cashiers check or wire transfer a deposit into her bank account. You are right to be weary of anyone asking for credit card information, that just opens up a whole can of worms that you  do not want to deal with. It is important to know the difference between the common protocol of making a deposit versus internet scams when you hobby.

It is most likely a scam and I would avoid them at all costs; however, if you REALLY are intent in that 1-in-a-million chance it is for real, buy a prepaid debit card for $25.00, register it under a modified name and address, put $23.00 of the card in your tank and then let them have the number.

Personally, I would go elsewhere.
