Sometimes we ascribe our own definitions to words in a way that is pathologic.  

Next think you know - anyone buying a Ford Escort will be arrested...

One of my younger brothers used that saying "XXXX is so gay!".  I replied- "Has he sucked your dick?"  Knowing full well that his orientation is straight.  I have yet to hear him make that comment again, at least within my earshot, LOL.  I know he didn't mean to use sexual orientation as a slam, mostly because he has many gay friends- but it is just one of the societal sayings that some say without giving the implications much thought.  

Another phrase that is negative, and one which I never realized was racial until very recently is “Calling a spade a spade”- very subtle, as most racism is- but that's what makes it all the more dangerous.  

Life’s about learning and being self-aware about the comments we make and who they might affect.

As for Santa and “Ho Ho Ho”- come on….that is a stretch even for the most liberal PCers.  After all, good St. Nicholas loves all God’s children….everyone knows that.

About 10 years ago, I was at a birthday luncheon for one of my co-workers.  It was attended by several of my fellow co-workers, many of whom I knew were gay.  At some point, I responded to someone's statement with, "oh yeah, THAT is so GAY!".  I forget exactly what the discussion was about, but I'd used the word "gay" to essentially mean "stupid" or "ridiculous".  It was a slip up on my part, and not something that I was or am particularly prone to saying.  Of course I felt terrible right after it slipped out of my mouth, as I knew that the lady directly across from me was a lesbian.  She takes no shit off of people, so I was relieved when she didn't immediately call me out on my remark.  "Perhaps she didn't hear me?  Even though I have a loud, booming voice, is it possible that she didn't hear me as it is quite loud in here?", I thought.  Then in a flash, the ditzy blonde to my left, with the big tits who I hoped I might soon fuck, turned to me right as everything got nice and quiet, and said, "I missed it; WHAT is soooo GAY?"!  I, of course, said nothing and tried to ignore her, but I knew I was busted.  Later on, I pinched her thigh under the table and gave her my "evil look".  After the lunch, I explained the situation suspecting that she didn't know that quite a few people at the table were gay.  To my surprise, she knew and even mentioned one other person that I didn't know.  Turned out that she was quite the callous one.  This boded well for my hopes to fuck her (I really didn't like her personality, but her body was near perfect), as I eventually did at a later date.  Despite her hot body, she was not very good between the sheets.  There's probably a few lessons that I should've learned throughout this, but I'm pretty sure I failed.

Having been exposed to the use of the word gay in the straight 20 something community many times in the last few years it is my opinion that the word is far more commonly used in this fashion than to denote sexual preference.

  That's so gay. How gay is that? and similar uses are so common in conversation as to be unremarkable. I see no sign of this changing anytime soon.

Totally ridiculous!  Someone's always going to be offended by something!  Next you know, Santa won't be allowed to be fat and jolly anymore because it may be viewed as promoting obesity. Let's feed the fat man some more milk and cookies!  And I'm surprised he hasn't been taunted for wearing a red suit - he could be a gang member!  Santa's gonna bust a cap in your ass if you're naughty! LOL

Of course, the letters in Santa can easily be arranged to spell Satan.  It's blasphemy!  Let's not even go there.  Whatever.  

Sheesh.  The PCers need to get lives and quit pissing in everyone's Wheaties!

And if someone calls me a HO, I'm not offended.  It simply means that I get paid.  Now if someone called me a SLUT, I would have to correct them.

Where are the thought and speech police? Thought and speech need to be sanitized. If someone might be offended by something someone said or thought such speech or thought must be prohibited. The alternative, of course, is to just kick the thin skinned whiner in the ass a few times and they will get a more harmonious outlook on life.
