yes there is a direct correlation between hypersexuality and bipolar/bipolar nos. But don't think that because you have a number of symptoms that you are, or are to remain bipolar. Bipolar has stress triggers sweety and is often very temporary unless other factors weasle their way into your physical composition. Keep in mind that Bipolar has become a "fix-all" diagnosis for lazy doctors who, at times, receive kick-backs from drug companies for prescriptions.

She's Bi-Polar so we all are?  Its all bullshit.  I'd bet that everyone here has at least 2 of those "symptoms".  Fuck, I got at least 4 right now.  If I went to a shrink, I'd probably find 3 or 4 more.

I've resisted the label for a long time believing my wife and some activist psychiatrists pushed me in this direction as a result of infidelity many years back along with a few mild incidents in the past that could be loosely labelled manic.  If I am bipolar, it would be mild maybe type 2 and a mild case at that.  I started on a low dose med mainly to keep my marriage together vowing to myself that if I ever had a reaction and or the interested parties wanted me to go on something stronger like Lithium which carries significant medical risks over the long term, I would say fuck it 'no' and get divorced.  Still I can't deny there's maybe a little something there as one of my young sons had a recent extended hospitalization for psychosis - possibly from a manic state of bipolar.  Nonetheless I pay all psychiatrist visits in cash to try and keep the info away from life and disability insurers.

There's no doubt that there are serious cases of bipolar and other mental illnesses out there - read the newspaper and look in the mental hospitals.  I think the mild cases are much more iffy and may fall along the lines of the range of normal behavior, perhaps at the upper limits of normal.

Even if you have experienced hypomania, you cannot accurately be diagnosed as Bipolar II unless you have had at least one Major Depressive Episode.

You know, when I was growing up, there weren't all these labels & problems. Yea, I know they say they didn't know about all these different disorders 15 years ago, but come one?? I swear, 1 out of every 2 people I meet(especially in the 18-25yo range) are either ADD, bi-polar, depressed, or have anger-management problems. WTH?? Yes, I know some people really DO suffer from these things, but doctors now-a-days tend to over medicate at the smallest inkling of a patient hinting to something being wrong. Depressed? Review your life.... a lot of the times it's situational, & YOU can fix it w/out medications (BTW, most anti-depressants cause a drop in libido.. sh**, if I wasn't depressed before, this would make anyone depressed!) ADD... too many children are being diagnosed with this.. why? Because they won't sit still and pay attention.... what kid doesn't? It's a PARENTING issue a lot of the time, same w/anger management. Think back 20 years ago... and how your parents would have reacted if you had "anger management" issues.... guess what, I'm the parent, & YOU are going to chill out, if not, you are going to get punished (this was when parents could still spank you w/out fear of getting locked up for child abuse).

The problem is the parenting. If you look at the new generation, the one's in elementary & middle school, they are TOO grown. Their parents work a lot, & aren't there to supervise. That, with the combination of what they watch on TV, it's no wonder the 9 year old's think they're 17. Look at the high number of kids NOT graduating from high school...why?? Not graduate from high school & go straight to college.... yea right, my parents would have kicked my a**, lol. Too many parents are giving their kids an option, and being their kids "friends", instead of their parents.

I forgot about that major depressive episode criteria.  I haven't had one.  I have alternatively been hypothesized to have cyclothymia.  I don't know.  I think it's mostly BS what some are coming up with for me.  I'm not type 1 bipolar so I don't need Lithium or anything in that strength range.  My son is an entirely different story though.

I agree, based on your self-report, that lithium is not called for.  

A therapist who specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy may be able to partner with you in finding ways for you to see things more realistically, and experience fewer and/or less pronounced mood swings, if that is a goal that you would like to move toward.

Did we need a psychiatrist to figure that out?

Do I like sex?  Of course, who doesn't?  Am I happy when good things in life happen, and sad when it's bad?  Needless to say.  Do I enjoy living life to the fullest, splurge when the time is favorable, and even do things on occasion that others wouldn't do?  Guilty as charged...it's called living life fully, and having as few regrets as possible when the clock runs out.  The last question on the bi-polar list mentioned whether we liked to party...my response, 4:20 is my favorite time of day, I don't like slipping and sliding on snow and ice during winter, and I will resist being medicated by the medical/pharmaceutical industry for as long as possible.

So, am I fucked up?  Maybe, but who gives a rat's ass?  I'm having fun, and that's all that counts here...

Reinforcing anybody's view on this board re whether OR NOT they need drugs for a condition is irresponsible.  Cognitive Therapy is, indeed, a useful tool, but if the the poster actually does have a disorder that only can be alleviated with drugs, it won't solve the entire problem.  In fact, there are many cognitive therapists who recommend medication for some illnesses.  So stop being a know-it-all tool diagnosing from someone's posts.

When madiba bloviates to show off his "knowledge" of psychology, it's merely annoying.  When he diagnoses people based on their posts, it's stupid.   And when he gives advice to someone about whether or not to medicate, it then becomes dangerous.  All he's doing here is validating a poster's belief about his problem, and if he's wrong (at least a 50-50 chance based on the limited information he has) he can do actual harm.  He's a jerk.
