I've been reading this board for about a year now. It was liberating to find others who are free thinkers about sex like myself. Or so I thought. Instead I've found a community filled with bullies hiding behind a computer screen. There are a number of posters who barely hide their contempt for civvie women. Providers however get the golden pedestal. Too much personal baggage comes through hidden behind humor or just outright meanness. Sorry your love life didn't work out but not all women are to blame.

Now this does not apply to everyone. There are those who are well adjusted, normal men - Mr. Fisher comes to mind. I suspect there are just as many husbands who have frigid wives at home through no fault of their own. This is not addressed to you! And there are terrific providers who have the balls to play in this spiteful world - London is tops. But for me, this boy's club is too harsh of a game. I'm taking my ball and going to another playground.

So let the hate mail begin. I would expect nothing less from the in-crowd. Sorry to all those whom this does not apply to. Wish you health and happiness.

I haven't posted much here of late and have liked some of Cannonhome's few posts when she's put them up.  But I tend to take it with a grain of salt when someone feels so full of themselves as to announce there own departure, especially when they have mainly lurked.
As for the state of this board, sure there's some sniping but I agree with those who say it was much more intense a year or so ago.  I am among those who find the current board much less fun, but I understand it wasn't for everyone.
Beyond the fun factor (which is subjective) it's clear to me the boards are a less valuable resource than they used to be.  Many people have left, for a variety of reasons.  Like them or not, they were highly experienced players who often shared their experiences in this game in ways that helped less savvy members have a better, safer time.  If you look at some of the questions on this very page, most people would say they belong on the Newbie Board.  Now, there's nothing wrong with being new.  But the lack of basic knowledge by so many posters is emblematic of the decline in usefulness of this board.
I hope it improves.  There's nothing wrong with people leaving if this place doesn't suit them.  No board can fit everyone's needs.  I just hope the board itself improves over time in its usefulness.  Unfortunately, so far I don't see that happening.
In the end, perhaps it doesn't matter at all.  Most TER members are here for the reviews and never come on the boards at all.  So maybe this is just "sound and fury, signifying nothing."

In the past.. half of the newbie questions would have never made it to the boards, because Gambler and Phil would not allow it to make it that far. Those questions would be transferred to Newbie board, w/o anyone seeing them..

That model was invaluable. When experienced players see noobs posting asinine questions on GD board, it brings out the worst in them... Now, people post private info sometimes (inadvertently) and it stays there until someone hits the "Report" button..

I have heard a few mention the days gone by and the fact that the board was a better place for some but a tough place if you 're a sensitive type. SO what about the board before that was so much better? What was the "fun" factor that it lacks today?

What would make this board a more valuable resource in your opinion? I mean other than the obvious reviews and dick size threads...lol

because I was largely absent. TEN years ago, this board was an incredible resource for a hobbyist (your favorite word) to find good providers and avoid bad ones, to exchange ideas about sex and this "hobby", and often just about life in general. People did not post nasty comments just for the sake of being nasty or stirring up trouble. Not that there wasn't disagreement, people argued all the time, but for my money it was quality debate, not name-calling and witless juvenile banter. Trolls were few and far between, and got identified and eliminated quickly.

Little by little, the trolls started winning. I don't know if mods were overwhelmed, or if some mods were bad choices to begin with. Honestly, my theory is that the TER gods decided that antagonism on the boards created longer threads and more attention - that the Jerry Springer style would bring in more money, in a nutshell. I have "ragequit" twice since I originally joined, and only came back this time because I was bored to tears, and maybe because I'm a little older and a little more able to tolerate the asshats, or at least to block them out and not allow them to make my stomach churn.

The New York Board used to be far more dynamic with quite a few interesting fellows, casual conversation with the ladies, and for the most part was quite civilized. Definitely had much more of a clubhouse feel. Now the whole place reminds me of going to the zoo and watching monkeys throw shit.

There's a lot to what clarence says.  I got here just over 2 years ago after starting out on the Newbie Board.  Then when I came over here I found you could learn a great deal from the experienced posters and mods, even though there was continual sniping.  But I found, as I became more experienced, that I even enjoyed the sniping.  Still, it was tame compared to the P&R Board, which since then has become nothing more than ranting with almost no rational discussion -- kind of like the rest of the country.  There used to be a few guys on P&R with whom I disagreed but we respected each other.  They are gone and I don't post there any more either.
As for the mods, I respected almost all of them.  They gave of their time generously and would PM me with advice or an occasional slap on the wrist when I needed it.  I think the system worked better then, though some would disagree.
As clarence said, in the "old" days (a whole YEAR ago, lol!) you could learn something here.  Now? Not so much.

All forums start with polite conversations, but later people shows true colors, and then the fun begins.
Emotional and sensitive people will always be at loss by the more direct and blunt.
Also it's very hard for Mods to keep a nice playpen with an always growing user group.

I like the board because I have learned a lot about the hobby.  It has definitely changed my approach and I will have more satisfying and well researched encounters as a result.

I also like that I can post just about any crazy, sex related thought that enters my head and it will be well received. But I have a feeling I could find other boards for that.  

My personal approach has been to skip over the posts I cannot add a meaningful contribution to or that are becoming heated.  However I did decide to enter the fray twice.  Once with wonders "I am too beautiful post" and this last weekend with Melissa's ad.  In either case I have refused to back down from any of the keyboard warriors.  I have no problem calling people out on their BS.  Just look at my last post to bluepill.

And I think that's the approach you have to take.  Ignore the stuff you do not feel strongly about.  But be prepared to push back hard on the stuff you do.  The reality is, none of the men on this board would have the balls to say any of this stuff if they were in a face to face conversation with a woman.  Whether she is a provider or civie.  They are not complete idiots and know we have the ultimate right to refusal and they last thing they want is a refusal.  Only on here is the alter ego allowed to surface.  And I always keep that in mind.  

As far as the provider's on a pedestal, I agree to an extent.  The men do a little ass kissing with the hot providers, but that makes sense.  These are women they hope to sleep with and they want it to be more than a mechanical experience.  Some of the ladies also have a tendency to back down with the men because they do not want to piss off a potential client. There are exceptions, but you see it a lot.      

So where does that leave the three or four civie women on this board?  In a very odd position. I have a feeling none ever lasts for very long.  We gain the information we need and move on once the personalities become annoying.  Perhaps the mods should consider another section on the board that is for the women.  Just like there is an over 60 area and BDSM.

I am part of boards that are made up almost completely by women and none of this shit would fly. Women have a low tolerance for rudeness and that behavior will get your butt kicked off quickly.  Trolls are also quickly identified and removed.

This board is the same as every Inet board out there.  You have the same cast of characters on every board...simply different handles.  And if you haven't noticed...read back over a few months (actually just scan) and you'll see that it ebbs and flows as to the content and tenor of the threads.  The past few days have been relatively boring as the hooker crowd has been more verbal...and the bully crowd are busy getting ready for the Superbowl.  Maybe next week it reverses...who knows...and more importantly, most don't care.

I like a good flame war if the writers are witty.  Remarkably dumb can be entertaining, too.  Simple personal attacks are tiresome.  I try to obey the motto:  Don't feed the trolls.  Also, don't wallow in the mud with pigs.  You just get dirty and the pigs like it.
