Of course, insanity can never be ruled out.

Most likely, they were having a bad day and maybe you were the third person to cancell and they just lashed out in a fit of frustration.

Still, if it makes you feel better, take some of orthodx's suggestions and keep an eye out just to be safe.

by an agency owner....

not with anything specific but it sure was implied...

I can't go into the reasons but I honestly did nothing to this person or any person working with this individual other than cancel an appointment

I apologized profusely but this person would not let it go.  I am concerned for my safety and anonymity since my phone, address, place of biz', etc. are known

advice anyone

too bad, you used an alias.  You might have gotten a lot of PM's on this.

I am assuming you are thinking this is a real and not implied threat otherwise you wouldn't have posted it.  I suppose you have looked at real worse case scenarios as opposed to what you imagine could have.

In no particular order, you need to document what was threatened and tell someone trustworthy or write it down. If this person finds out you have documented his "implied" threat, that might be enough to get him to back down.

Maybe you could post your problem on the Legal Corner board and see if they have any suggestions for you.  If the owner reads the review, I would think he/she would not want a lot of bad publicity going around.

2nd, if you have a cop friend who is not gonna be too interested in any illegal activity you might have been involved him, I would tell him/her and maybe they can have a private word with them "off the record" to lay off.

Likewise a mutual acquaintance  who could speak to this person would be helpful.

Lastly of course, there is the police.  Depending on what your involvement is, they are there to serve and protect you, John Q Citizen, and it is no good publicity for them when people get hurt or worse after they have been informed of a specific threat.  They will take care of you if you are really fearing bodily harm.

What I don't think you want this guy to think is that this is just between you and him.  The more people he thinks know about this, the less likely he is to react in a manner which draws attention to himself.  He is not going to want to out you because he will scare away all his clientele.  he is certainly is not going to want to cause you bodily harm if every finger is going to be pointing at him.  If he thinks he can do something and no one suspect him, he is more liable to do it.

At some point you want him to feel you are more trouble than what it is worth and move on.

Good Luck

Was threatened- won't go in to details lest the threatener figure out what I'm talking about and flare up again.....

But legal advice from an atty familiar with our sandbox was to totally let it go-  do not contact again, do not stir up talk among your provider friends and hobbyists locally that would get back to the threat- just let it die.  He felt once the anger and emotions relaxed, the threat would die of starvation.

But feed it and flare up the anger and emotions.....    enough said.

however, one never knows when a person is going to do something unpredictable - or even not in their own best interest.

For agencies and indy providers alike... they have to know that exposure of a client is NEVER a good thing... others will shy away quicker than stepping on a dog's tail will make the dog shy away from you.

They will loose business....  so unless this guy is unhinged, he will probably not act on it.... but I would also talk with an attorney who I know can keep a zipped lip.

Learn from the experience:

Always get an anonimous email account and a prepaid cell phone without your personal information.  Also get a pre-paid credit card so the SO doesn't see the charges on the bill.

Happy hobbying

The more you do that now, the more it will just aggravate things.

Do as "much more to it" suggests, steer clear of contacting him and his agency. Anger usually can't keep burning without more fuel. Too much fuel at once and it can get explosive.
