My SO just read an article in her "O" magazine where they recommend that woman take a much greater role in the finances. The article cites 2 examples one where the man died and the wife had no clue how to manage her finances, the second example was were a woman starting looking at the bank and CC statements and saw the withdrawals her husband was making for his hobbying needs and busted him. So now my wife demands that she review everything that comes in from a financial standpoint.

I can understand that a woman needs to be able to take care of herself in case something happens to the man or their relationship but this will significantly reduce my fun as it will take much longer to set aside money for hobbying.

DANG!!!

...and I'm seriously considering separating our finances.

I did keep thing discrete but with auto deposit of my paycheck and no other source of cash I was confident I could keep things UTR, I never took out large chunks but now she questions everything financial, now I will have to take cash in bits and dabs so that it is not obvious. That means slowing down on having fun.

When you deposit your pay check hold out what you need-it well not show up on your bank statement. Oprah is getting to much power and well be our down fall. I have to live by Oprah's rule and well be getting rid of my TV's soon. Just got to get them out of the house

a husband should have some money set aside for gambling, drinking w/ buddies, hobbying but a marriage is a partnership and I don't want to hear about a man who allows his children to starve or doesn't pay the bills to see escorts.

Also, many a time a man died and a woman had never established credit herself and had trouble getting the utility bills in her name or didn't know what stocks her husband had. Every wife should know what is going on in case of an emergency.

If I was married, I would allow my husband some money to see someone else so long as they wore protection, but I don't want all my marital assests to go to gambling, alcohol, or escorts.

Do you really feel that strongly about letting your husband see escorts?  

Most of the wives of the men on here would never feel that way, so they either remain faithful or cheat.  I have said before how I feel about that subject, so I won't fan those flames, but I do know that if the wives of most of the men on here really checked up on their husbands, TER membership would nosedive.

because of a fucking celebrity, I'd get a divorce. I'm sorry, I had to say it. I don't even watch TV (ok, 1 hr a week), but it's the point of the matter! (Oh, and I do like using the TV for movies.)

the stuff that comes across TV - even apart from Oprah, is hardly worth the space the damn thing takes up.  OK, a few exceptions, and I'm with ya, if he can't just turn it OFF, he's got bigger problems than Oprah.

I think it's important for an SO to have a realistic view of her relationship, and at the same time make her desires clear enough - I don't mind an SO who needs exclusivity as long as she accomodates me emotionally and physically...it's when it gets one-sided that I'm gonna bail...

expect exclusivity, but they also don't pay enough attention to enforce it - practically speaking, that says more - they need room for themselves, ie, would rather fold doilies than have crazy sex, and likewise leave men room to wreck machinery and chase others.   Women are often scared by - or find it convenient to be scared by - all sorts of unusual things like loud voices, disorderly kitchens, etc., while men are more often bored by this.   It's hormones.

But most wives have never been providers, and I wonder how many fantasize about it, or other things.

I wonder if wives really checked on their husbands, how many would react positively (ie, try to fill the need) and how many would just do a Jerry Springer and think that a screaming divorce is really what a man wants?

...but then I started thinking how painful Mrs. Lex's usual, bashful, who-me?-I'm-not-pretty coyness would be as the minutes ticked-away at $500/hr (a typical "couples" rate).

It's a good plan though, as soon as I work-out the bugs.

that women waste your time to make sure that you're not using it on somebody else.  (Of course,  egocentric insecurity is another more immediate hypothesis - but when they get away with it, lots of people make that into a social niche.)

People will use resources they don't really need simply to deny them to competition that might challenge them in the future.

It's not conscious, it's just a programmed response that an insecure or mean person (which is a matter of degree - reasonable people should feel insecure if there is a real threat) will fall back on.

Of course, some people - especially women - grow up in psychological hothouses, so when somebody (like Bizarro describes) asks them to lower their voices, they  react with poison.

And that, folks, is the value of intramural sports, and Title IX women's programs - to teach kids that getting knocked around does not kill you, and anything that doesn't kill you makes you stronger.  Besides, there is nothing like sports to make a woman sexy.   Hell, if I were President, I'd make women's sports MANDATORY.
