I've got the answer...

Make it illegal to build streets (and sidewalks!) that can be used by sex workers to conduct their business.

As a bonus, we won't have all the noise from the construction involved in making streets.

So the law's working, some will say.

To those in favor of the law, this is flushing them out into the streets where they can be caught and put away. So the law is working exactly as desired.

And honestly, doesn't it seem like the industry is in a downturn as a result? So despite the questionable practice of policing people's bedrooms, can't the law be seen as being quite effective in curtailing an activity some people wanted to stamp out?

If you think it's curtailed anything to any extent you clearly need to get off TER and back to the wilds of the internet. It may be somewhat more fragmented, sure, but all that's really happened is that sites have been pushed off to places where the FBI has no jurisdiction.

At least on TER you had a reasonable expectation that the lady you were going to see wasn't trafficked, not so for some of the other options out there. If anything, the laws have made human trafficking a much larger problem while simultaneously making it harder to stop.

This is the classic "cut off one head and three will grow back in it's place", or the nerdier "if you strike them down they'll become more powerful than you could ever imagine".

Yes, odd how most prohibitions

end up benefiting organized crime, inducing more government corruption and doing little if anything to stop the targeted activity -- but generally making it even a worse situation that prior to the prohibition.

You would think these people have never heard of studying history before trying something "new".
