TER is great. It's help me to have some great times with providers. What I don't understand about this and other boards is why a few people feel like it's their job to police the boards. They must troll the boards, see something they don't like and try to start drama and train wrecks. They resort to name calling and just get real personal with their criticism. I don't get it. They must be miserable people with way too much time on their hands. I'm told at least a couple of them are former moderators, who must feel like less of a person since they've had their "power" removed.
I'm sure you know the 2 or 3 I'm talking about.

A little drama is good IMO, as long as it doesn't resort to personal threats.

Maybe you don't really follow these boards all that closely.

Check out who the most prolific posters and train wreck artists are.

I don't remember too many female mods at the end either!

I do not know who the former moderators were and it really doesn't matter to me.

The way some people conduct themselves in the forums are at best to be labeled as childish and most of them use the 'Alias' function because they don't want anyone to view their real handle differently. That's lame.

Why do these people do these things? Geez... the reasons that I can come up with would be enough to fill a US Navy destroyer.

Certainly not everyone who steps foot into these forums are monsters or addicts, it's just that the monsters have a habit of taking over. Why can some people cope with these unnatural interactions as if they were engaging with people in real life and why do others take on sanctimonious or belligerent attitudes?

There's a difference between healthy debating and blatant antagonizing. In an online setting where you can't see facial expressions or always sniff out witty sarcasm, people can easily misconstrue others' intended words. Next time you find yourself in a hostile thread, try to take the high ground and shrug off offending comments. Users should also try to gracefully respect comments that differ in opinion even if they are unpopular statements about highly controversial topics. Always report any obvious attempts of flaming to the moderator before it gets out of hand. That's what they're there for.

If you are the offender, and are going off for the gratification of starting chaos or inflating your own self-esteem, perhaps seeking therapy might be in order or at least ask yourself why you harbor so much animosity towards the world. It is never okay to rationalize personal attacks with anonymity. Respect the person's rights, regardless of viewpoint. I'm just waiting for the day when someone turns around and sues a forum's host for damages caused by anxiety, high blood pressure or a heart attack. The way forums are going these days

You have all sorts in a community like this, and it isn't based upon the topic of the board.

The annonymity sadly brings out the anti-social and juvenile aspects of a few people.  Take that a step farther with aliases and people now lose even more inhibitions since they can protect the "reputation" of their "real" handle.

The bullies, the police, and the jerks all tend to be more vocal than the norm so their small numbers seem magnified.

The "police" are in many ways the most annoying to me.  They tend to believe their view of what the board should/should not be is inherently better than other folks.  What is one person's "inappropriate" post is often someone else's humoros or informative post.  I wish more would just skip over the topics that don't interest them.

At least bullies and jerks tend to only get thier posts removed.

And TER has tried to accommodate those who wish to not get involved in more raucous discussions.

It's the +60 board...and I know you spend a great deal of time there.  You've stated how you don't like the GD board.

So ask TER to start a "grumpy pants" board.  And then all the grumpy pants can just stay there and bash the posters who enjoy the "friendly banter"...or maybe try it yourself.

I couldn't have said it better myself. You put eloquently into words what I've tried to say. Why do they believe their view of what the board should be is the "law" and they are, without a doubt, the most annoying people on TER.

I have never said I don't like the General board.  I have said I think it's not as good as it used to be (5-8 years back).

I do visit the 60+ board, but to say I sapend "a great deal of time" there is a serious overstatement.  I don't spend a huge amount of time on any of these boards.  Too much else going on in my life.

And my point was certainly NOT to curtail the banter on here--go back and reread my post.  I was arguing AGAINST folks who want to remove every post that doesn't pass their view of what should be allowed.  To restate:  I wish more would just skip over the topics that don't interest them.

80% are the most annoying people anywhere you go. That's being 3rd string does to a person. It changes them for life and we pay for it.

But Chipper plays baseball...and is headed to the HOF.  So he doesn't count in this.

OldTraveler...now that he explained what he was saying about all the posts and threads being pulled...sure is a different game now.

But with the RAP we can all be board cops.  And with all the posts being reported all that is left are some pretty vanilla threads.  Even the fun one yesterday is gone.  

Guess I'll just have to watch another rerun of 30 Rock to get my dose of sarcasm.  And maybe follow that up with any Seinfeld episode.  And if I want some serious hooker talk, I'll catch a Charlie Sheen episode of Two and a half men.  Lord knows that that's about all the men that are left on this site.

I don't get that, either, but then again, internet boards have a tendency to create a clique-like sense of community, and attract a certain type of individual.  More often than not, those individuals find their identities on boards like these.

Whatever works for them.  I just ignore the other shit as best as I can.

And great move on using fisher...that way the gal knows she is in for a sploshing good time.
