There is one person I'm trying to reach but all it says under the alias is "See my post "  
How do you private message an alias? Is it VIP status? Can we not pm an alias now?

Click on the blue SUBJECT LINE of the alias-authored post. That makes it the TOP post on the reloaded page. Now click on the greyed out alias. Up pops a message window, pre-filled with the alias.
.
Or, from your Message center, "Compose" a new message. Cut and paste (or manually type in) the alias.

Go into Flat mode (upper right corner of the page has Tree or Flat.)

Find alias.  Click on it.  Should go directly to private message mode.
