I appreciate all the advice. I didn't feel comfortable asking my current Dr, but got an appointment with a different one. I have been doing acupuncture on a regular basis and that has been helpful.
There are 5 oral ED meds on the market right now, all work by the same mechanism. All are generally contraindicated for use by people taking fairly common heart/BP meds (e.g., Nitroglycerine and Alpha-Blockers). The combination can cause dangerous low blood pressure.
There are also more uncommon ED meds that are non-oral (Papaverine, for example) that MAY be options.
I seriously doubt anyone other than your Doctor could give you safe advice on your alternatives.
a lot of the sports supplements and "male support" herbals now include things made from Epimedium (including Horny Goat Weed, and others). These contain icariin, which is a moderately potent PDE inhibitor similar to the oral ED drugs like V, Cialis, etc.. Unfortunately, it isn't selective to PDE5 as are the ED drugs and thus it is more likely subject to side-effects. Obviously not good for a CVD patient. Especially when other options definitely exist, if only by prescription.
Told my doc I wanted something for ED and assumed Viagra was out because I'm on heart meds. To my surprise and joy he said ok to take it just not within 24 hours of using nitro. That's because basically Viagra is like taking nitro so it would be dangerous double dose. Tried it once so far and had the time of my life. All situations may differ but at least ask your doc before deciding for yourself.
