I have just received news that my son-in-law has been wounded in Iraq.
He was on convoy duty across the Kuwaiti border in southern Iraq when they were hit by an IED. The duece and a half in front of him was thrown in the air and flipped backwards onto his hummer.
He is ok, a few broken bones and bruises, but, otherwise ok. He will be in the hospitol for several weeks.
He did lose 2 friends, though.

This has been my fear for the last 4 1/2 years.
Over that time, my daughter has had a tour in Iraq, a tour in Kuwait, and was in Masiryah, Oman ferrying special forces teams on helos into Afganistan at the start of Operation Enduring Freedom.
When it was his turn to be deployed, we thought we had made it and could relax. I guess not.

Anyway, I just wanted to share with some people here who know me and are aware of things going on with me and my family.

Thank God your son-in-law will recover and the rest of your family is ok. My son's Seabee unit went over 500 strong. 497 came home on their own two feet. God bless all who serve, especially those who go in harm's way. We need our Warrior Class to protect all of us at home, even those who don't -- or won't -- appreciate the privelages our Military has earned for them.

You and your family have sacrificed allot already for the defense of our country. God bless all of you.

As a fellow DoD person, I appreciate the willingness to serve, to keep the rest of us free. Never forget they there are those in the world that want our way of life to vanish and all of us with it.

First, thank you bobb3950 for your family's suffering and contribution already. It's good to hear your son doesn't have significant physical injuries at this time.

For the perfesser, as a former Seabee, and many hours with the Marines, I agree 100 percent with your sentiments - as should all people who enjoy the American way of life - regardless of their philosophy.

Sorry, but I served 1970-1974. No need to preach to the choir.

God bless your daughter, your son in law and all of thier family.  I am grateful to hear that he is 'ok' physically.  Only time can help the emotional damage.

An extra prayer will go up tonight for a speedy recovery in addition to the special prayers that go up every night for all of those defending our county.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Want to call me tomorrow?  I'll be around from 2 to 4 p.m. This is horrific news, but thank goodness he's still alive and only has a few broken bones.

That's a shame about his friends. I know too well the horrors of war. Peace be with you, my dear friend.

That's horrible news.  Glad to hear your son-in-law will be ok, but that his friends lost their lives...can only imagine what he thinks about that... ...  In my eyes, they are all heroes!

mine, not a roadside IED.  It had to be UNDER it.

You probably don't know, but every soldier has to ask, how did it get there?  How come there's no effective minesweeping?  How come, in a desert where we have air superiority, patrols didn't prevent it from being planted?  We have technology to detect digging, but we're using it against Mexicans instead of insurgents.

Your son-in-law made it.  But a couple others didn't, and if things don't change, they aren't going to be the last preventable casualties.

It's not enough to pray, and say God bless anything, let's trust our leaders who gave up golfing.   God and our leaders will fuck them all in a heartbeat if somebody doesn't use their big head and look out for them.

Some people seem to think it's cool to sport yellow ribbons as $2 celebrations of somebody else's sacrifice, but it seems to me - from the perspective of having had the responsibility for soldiers - that honest & serious people would be working to keep it from happening again.

his wasn't a political statement....these are kids we're talking about, solders  do what they are told by the comander & chief, & most of them don't come from  posh gated communities...btw, i'm no bushie, but they are all someones dear child.....

I have family that have done a few tours over there... it's very scary to think about what they may be doing over there or what they're facing and a call like that just brings all your fears to realization. I guess if there's a silver lining, he's not hurt badly and will most likely be sent home soon. I will keep him in my prayers.

First, thank you to all you wonderful people who sent me and my family their well wishes either on the board or by PM.
It really means alot to me.

Now, my son-in-law is doing well.
He has 2 broken bones in his arm and a few "bruises" as he calls them. I suspect it's a bit more than that, but I'll take him at his word.
He is a strong man and will recover from this.
However, I think the loss of his comrades will haunt him for some time.

He will be staying to finish his tour (he comes home in Aug.), but he will be assigned an office position because he has one of those full arm, stick out at the shoulder type casts.

Again, hank you for all the positive, well wishes I have received.
It warms the heart to have the support of all my friends on the board, whether we know each other or not.

It is wonderful to hear that he is OK and will recover. My heart goes out to him for the loss of his fellow soldiers, and to their families.

May God bless you and yours and all whom we've sent in harm's way.  We can't do enough for them (and we're doing damned little now).

You truly don't know how worried I was about you and your family, as if you haven't been through enough these past couple of years.

I know you couldn't call me, but please know that I am thinking of you, praying for you and your family, and I "will always" be your friend. We've been through some tough times and shared those experiences with one another and I am grateful to have you as a friend (tears swelling in eyes).
