What's the purpose of them? If you are not talking about an STD exam or something extremely personal why use them for everything? I could be whatever but at the end of the day, hiding behind a fake name I don't like nor do I comprehend.

What's the purpose of an Alias? So basically I can insult whoever I want under a different name and no one would know it's me....? Seems cowardly to me.

Thoughts?

The main reason is not to expose their username.  So you can not see his review or her profile, can't PM him or her.  There are many reasons to use alias.  I like to use alias, save a lot of trouble.  It's a nice feature to use, so why not?  I see nothing wrong to use an alias.

Because my user name stinks because I did not think about it too much when setting it up, and my alias in this case hopefully presents me in a better light.  Nothing wrong with my user name, I sometimes use an alias because I want women to see my profile and hope they think about a guy that will open doors for them and tell them they are pretty.

I don't buy it. I would rather you not say anything than hide behind an alias. I'm not scared of confrontation and I will always speak my mind. If you afraid of ridicule for what you really think than why not be a puppet and keep quiet in your little corner of the universe. I know I write things that people don't agree with but I don't give a damn what anyone thinks of me. My skin is thick. I have been called names told to seek professional help and one alias told me to jump off the GW Bridge. You might find this hard to believe but my name is Zak and my birthday is March 26. I'm not hiding. If you got something to say tell it to my face and stand behind what you write. You will earn my respect by being a man or a women not an alias.

My 2cents.

Flame away

is so that I can share stories about my experiences in the hobby and avoid the guessing game of which provider(s) I'm talking about. That's one of the 9 "official" reasons for using an alias, btw.

I've also used them for topical humor, but that's more difficult to do now that you can have only one alias at a time and it can be changed only once every 3 months.

You are correct in that Admin can and has revealed the handle of the alias if they deemed the postings by the alias went to far.

Yes and No,
If it's done correctly I don't see the harm, but then again I don't know too many that post with an Alias and are civil. Maybe it's me. I understand the concept...don't get me wrong but some run with it

which of course is to act like a little cunt or an internet tough guy, but not let anyone know your real fake name while doing so. Most of my stalkers have been little cowards too scared to tell me what they think of me without cowering behind an alias.

There are of course people who use an alias for purely legitimate reasons, but their numbers are dwarfed by the people who just don't have the guts to own what they say.

Agreed
Most are scared they wont be seen or they will lose business due to their board persona. It seems odd to me in this world to hide but then again im still trying to get it right.

We are all using alias's... It's just that some have reviews tied to them...BFD.

I have reviews tied to both my handle and my alias...and at this point have too much invested in the Senator to change.

Besides, the Senator is the real me, I'm the fake.

I was speaking in general terms not to you directly. Thanks for posting the 9 reasons. I understand why posting a handle different than your name is a good idea but on a message board talking about any issue or idea should be from the direct person.

1 no Alias Enhances Humor Ever
3 Disagreements. And different opinions are healthy do it being you
4. I can play Devils advocate as myself and I do it some times when need be.
5. Unless your a politician what fallout are we talking about? We talking about sex not politics
7 Providers can handle themselves if a White Knight doesn't agree who cares. Be a man stick up for what you write.
9. Google doesn't know Xyz is John Smith or Mike Tyson. Even Zak326 prove its me. To many Zaks in this world born on 326 I know two others.

Just my thoughts.

People feel free to respond only as you not as an alias.

In short Roxanne, I could not agree more. I have not looked at any other comments other than your post and you are spot on. The folks that use them will justify their use and defend themselves. Personally I do not read any comments from either side if it is an alias.

We are all in this world for our own reasons so why the need for a second alias? What is wrong with just being you and saying what you want? Be an adult and take a stance. The only reason I protect who I am on here is because I have children and grandchildren. As for everyone in this world I am who I am. I rarely post or comment and probably more than half don't care for me and that is cool with me. Hiding under an Alias for any reason is cowardice. Of course that is my opinion. Those that want to use it and justify it for themselves, go for it. I just do not partake in your cowardice.

Thank you for the post Roxanne. I applaud you.

My stance is very simple, let's see if you can follow me here......... Say what you need to say, no matter if it is good, bad, complimentary, hurtful, or anywhere in between. Just don't hide behind an alias to say it. If you have the guts to type it, have the guts to stand behind it. Period.

Simple enough for you?

Unless you're using your real name, you are also using an alias. What difference does it make if it has a yellow envelope and reviews attached or not? You can PM and check reviews for both a handle (your main alias) and your secondary alias. This is an anonymous forum that no one should take personally IMO.

You can call me a coward if you want. I don't really care, but I do stand behind and own whatever I type, whether I use my handle or my alias.

Have a nice day!

Also, under a previous persona, I gained some unwanted and very dangerous attention by posting on the boards (my posts were, for the most part, just ads on my regional board).

There are many stories of providers (and clients, too) attracting stalkers, malicious types, and general harassment, by posting here. I'm one of those providers.... Although I do have reviews, I do not have an official presence here as a provider, and doubt I ever will again.

I love to write about the hobby, and I really enjoy the board discussions. But I don't want any attention - positive or negative - bought to my escort persona. Even in terms of advertising, I try to keep it minimal and extremely discreet. I gravitate toward seeing regulars and doing extended dates, rather than making myself more visible...here, or on other sites. You'll never see me doing premium placement on Eros, or running ads on 10 different sites.
