Now *this* is really how I like to see my tax dollars spent! Federal tax dollars at that! Ashcroft will eventually not even allow naked barbie dolls to be manufactured. Sick sick man.
are very extreme indeed.
Not that I like Government censorship, this company was courting trouble for a long while now. Even people in the porn industry wanted nothing to do with them.

I'm confused. For the sale and distribution of adult material, for someone else's viewing, it is my understanding that that is legal. Now, the only thing about that article that intrigued me was when it stated that DVD's, videos etc were "mailed" or distributed across state lines by the postal service. This means, if I'm interpreting this correctly, that if such activity takes place without using the Federal Government(postal service, mail) then it's legal. Or, if such activity takes place "across state lines" does that make if Federal? i.e., FBI(Justice Dept). I've raised some very good questions, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to write a few letters just to see what the responses would be.
this sets a dangerous precedent we could all live to regret

quite frankly, i don't like to mix my sex and violence ... if i wanted to watch (simulated) kidnapping, beating, forced rape and killing of hapless women ... i'd just tune in to cable TV! [rim-shot]
but seriously, the tripe EA spews out pales in comparison to what's available all over Europe and the rest of the world (well, scratch that! maybe just some parts of Europe! LOL)

Have to remember that the Supreme Court has set the standard for obscenity as what the community regards as obscene. Which is one of the big reasons that the Porn Industry is mostly located in Southern California, looser community standards.
I always thought that one of the porn studios should hook up with one of the legal brothels in Nevada. If you are next door to a brothel and it is legal by community standards, how can your producing porn be considered obscene?
First off, I personally hate "extreme" porn, and to me, it is almost as indecent as boxing...which is one hell of a lot more dangerous to the participants! However, the participants in both activities perform VOLUNTARILY! People, if it bothers you, just don't watch it!
Having said that, nowhere in this article does it state what the inditements are actually for. It says EA violated federal obscenity laws, but then Asscroft mentions that purvayors have to conform to "community" decency standards. I can only assume, then, that the inditements are for interstate shipment of material to a community whose decency standards (by the way, I wish I could go somewhere in my community and read what MY community standards are!) the material violates.
This may actually be a valid inditement, but you can be assured that it is motivated by the same sort of right wing decency witch hunt that spawned the Meese commission under Reagan. It had been planned for quite some time. Gotta appease the religious vote, dontcha know. With the recent gay furor, the GOP is beginning to make moves staking out its position as the defender of morals and traditional values in this country to win swing votes.

The ultimate agenda is to make your statement
"Now *this* is really how I like to see my tax dollars spent! Federal tax dollars at that! " a prosecutable offense.
This is why I often find myself in the unenviable position of defending someone's right to so something that makes me want to puke.
singleton: I think this is just expanding on your post.
Someone would see to it that Ashcroft got laid on a regular basis and he would chill out in the process.
This guy has GOT to learn to sit back and determine what is REALLY important in life.
Hey, I am all for him going after the child pronographers and the pediophiles, but he really needs to leave the adults and their personal entertainment alone!
