I'm interested in being able to see what information I can gather using one of the Reverse Phone Lookup services. I've heard some of them are scams. Has anyone had any success in drilling down to actual personal detailed information (real name, address, etc...) using one of these services that is legit and doesn't scam you?
And if you did happen to find a real, legit reverse phone look-up service... it only applies to home phones & contract cell phones(and that's a big maybe, as cell phone carriers CANNOT sell your info to any online "store" for people to just look up) and any pre-paid phone isn't registered to anyone's name... and as above poster stated... you really think we have our work phones in our real names?
No, by no means am I a stalker. When I got my hobby phone, I just went to a local cell phone service store and got it in my real name. At the time, I was just thinking of the need for a phone other than my usual phone that's monitored sometimes by my SO. Now, I realize that my personal information may be obtained by others. So, to answer your question, it's really me wanting to see what information about ME is available via these reverse phone lookup companies. I'm not interested in others...just me.

There is no reason I can think of that anyone in this business should have their hobby cell phone listed in their real name! Having said that, more providers do so than you would think. It is an unnecessary risk and one I wish would get more attention with the newer providers out there. You don't even have to go to a reverse phone look-up, too many have the same phone number linked to other things and a google search looking for reviews/posts/etc will too often pull up other info that shouldn't easily be found.
Very true, I would say almost 50% of the ladies that I have screened are not using a throw away phone. That is why I run a reverse phone look up as it can produce useful information. Give me a real name and an address and I can find out almost anything.
I pay a monthly fee for reverse phone number lookup and background for my business check anyway so why not spend 5 seconds and check it out. I do not share this information ever. But it helps weed out some of the druggies and thieves. One time it showed the phone was registered to the local police department. Talk about just going after low hanging fruit.
I will not share the company I use as the information obtained can be abused. No need to arm stalkers and blackmailers that are too dumb to find a good site on there own.
Everyone in the hobby should have an unregistered throw away phone that is only used for the hobby. My family has three as they are cheep. It can prevent some bad things from happing to you because your information leaked.

Agreed, and top up only with airtime cards purchased with cash.
you registered it using your internet connection or home phone, or you paid for it with a check or credit card, LE can look you up. Now if you registered it in your name your basic information is likely able to be traced by anyone with your number. Get one that is not registered in your name.
I like TracFone for my hobby phone. You can buy one for $10 and a $20 card lasts me months for hobby purposes. The $10 phone even came with a car charger. You can register it on a pay phone without giving out any personal information just by remaining silent when it asks for name and stuff.
Now go get you a proper hobby phone. Almost any prepaid phone will work as long as you don't register it in your name.

I couldn't agree with you more! I am currently dealing with the hassle of "cleaning-up" after googleing my phone number. And I am an experienced provider! Embarrassed to admit I made such an error, but I think it is necessary to reinforce this warning to providers, & hobbyists alike.
