I found this in a newsletter by Fred Langa - www.langa.com :

Spam exists because it works, simple as that. Some percentage of people *do* respond to spam offers, and that's more than enough to keep the spammers in business.

When you get spammail, just delete it. Don't reply to be "removed" from their list. (It doesn't work.) Don't send back a fake "bounce" or "bad address"  message. (It only helps spammers make their mailings more cost efficient.) In fact don't do anything: Just delete the email, preferably unread. That--- and only that--- ensures that the spammer has just wasted a little money on you.

If enough people do this--- if enough people force spammers to waste a little money--- then the economics of spam will change, and it will no longer be lucrative. When spammers no longer can make easy money by spamming, they'll stop and move on to the next scam.

Good spam filters can help you sort the spam for easy deletion. Good legislation can help apply pressure to the spammers where they live. But the ultimate solution to spam is to make it unprofitable.

Do your part to help drive the spammers out of business. Take the pledge:  Never, ever, buy *anything* you see spamvertised!

I must admit to some concern regarding my TER (and hobby) activity and spam. I used to receive perhaps 12-25 messages a day stopped by my ISP's spam filters. In the several months I've been here and to the places and ladies this board has led me, the amount of spam I receive has more than quadrupled.

I believe TER has a "no sale of email addresses" privacy policy. Has anone correlated spam increasing with communications with escorts via email?

Probably it's just coincidental.

If you have your email address on any web site, it will be  harvisted and you will receive spam.  The only answer I've found, and one that works is SpamArrest.  Since I started using it three months ago, I have received no spam.  NONE!!!!!

I believe I just recalled either reading or hearing about them either passing or wanting to pass a law making spamming a felony!

Felony = lose your right to vote, lose your right to buy or carry a weapon.

Losing your right to vote because you sent spam seems just a tad bit harsh.

OBE - I was surprised by your post so I did a quick check and yes, they've already made certain SPAMming a felony in Virginia!
Now they need to enforce it. I wonder what the punishment would be in Singapore.... cutting off the keyboard cable? Cutting off the hands?

Very good!! Every state needs to adopt these laws and enforce them. A couple of years ago I visited a spammer that had an office near my home. He didn't think I could track him down, boy was he surprised to find me at his door. Needless to say, he packed up and moved, he also stopped sending spam to me.

Something I have done for years, I forward spam to [email protected] I never get a response from them but I think they compile the addresses and track where it's coming from.
