Got the results of my quarterly tests this morning. I get tested at AIM for HIV (PRC/DNA test) and the full panel of STDs every three months. Surprise, I'm positive for Hepatitis A.
Of course, I've notified every provider I've seen and the civilians as well.
The reason for the post? I wanted to get vaccinated for Hep A&B on my last visit, but they couldn't do it until the test results were in. The good news is that it is eminently treatable, and the odds that I've transmitted it are slim, as I don't particularly enjoy being rimmed. Even so, I've done asian on some ladies. The most likely method of transmission is either rimming someone who has it or some food service worker didn't wash thoroughly enough after taking a dump.
The vaccinations are good for an estimated 20 years of protection. After treatment I will be effectively immune to it. As psrt of playing safe out there, think about getting the vaccinations, just to remove one more potential worry.

To all the ladies I've seen - and you either know who you are by now as I've been busy on the phone all day or you will by the end of the day - I'm so sorry to have brought you that news, it's the first time in a relatively long life that I've contracted anything, as I am careful to play safe. Even so, this is an occupational hazard and underlines the importance of responsible play and regular testing.

relax .. it ain't that bad  :-)

haven't had it myself but know others who have. as you said, it's eminently treatable, so no biggie  ... just be glad you're HIV- and HCV-  (HepC may sound like it's less significant that HepA/B but as you know it sure as sh*t ain't -- interferon hell!)

"The most likely method of transmission is either rimming someone who has it or some food service worker didn't wash thoroughly enough after taking a dump." -- The Surgeon General (the good one!)

don't forget ATM bay-bee! ... never withdraw and deposit without clearing the checks LOL  (or something like that, i forget ;-)

----

on a serious note, one of my F's (as in not exactly an ATF, but still a F) tells me she has monthly STD tests done (including UTI, YI, etc) and HIV-antibody tests every 6 months with HIV/RNA ones once every year (just in case)

let this be a shining beacon of hobbying responsibility for everyone, provider and payor alike

Well, I know all about HepA from personal experience. Was DEATHLY ill for an ENTIRE YEAR of my life, and have been impacted by that year (1994) since. Nothing about me has ever been the same again.
At the time, I was working three jobs around the clock, sleeping only three and four hours a day, 363 days a year, for 4 years straight (though had this shedule WITH days off for 15 years). My body was just too plain exhausted to handle it. One of my jobs was in a restaurant. They had to shut it down for three days. The Health Dept. recorded my case as one of the worst in SD history. I only mention these very personal details publicly because you should be aware. (Especially so close to Mexico..)
Who will ever know the cause? It's viral, so who knows? Chances are it was some produce as we had many produce problems at that time; or any number of places where I ate with someone who didn't wash properly. It can live on countertops for a long period of time. Common places are faucet handles, and door handles. Always use a paper towel or napkin to turn on and off the faucet handles in public places or you are infecting or re-infecting yourself.
I don't put down anyone's sexual practices, but I do think you're asking for it if you partake in rimming. At least, if anything, get vaccinated.
I'm glad you posted this. I called my Doc Friday trying to schedule a HepB series and am being
'hasseled' as to why?? Just do it! Here it is Tuesday, and we are still volleying this back and forth..
You can have HepA and not even know it; be a carrier and not know it. On the other hand, the Docs back then asked my family to contact my ex regarding our daughter, as they weren't quite sure 'I'd pull through'. Any one of the Heps can be some serious shit.
Get vaccinated. At least now there ARE vaccinations. There wasn't one for A in 1994.

If you should come up positive on such a test and don't keep any records of who you've seen (as has been discussed ad infinitum here before) - how do you go about notifying interested (read possibly affected) parties?

A great idea. Please provide suggestions as to where one might obtain cheap/annoymous tesing.

For all those ladies who take Reservation Forms inside their sites, that information is stored in their site's database.  It's always accessible and it's important to know how to access it for safety reasons.

I don't maintain my website but I've learned how to access my Admin section to track reports. I sometimes print the entire Form database and mail it to a VIF (very important friend) for safe keeping in case something were to happen to me.

Websites are important!

I asked for the Hep B vaccine at my doctor's office, and, because I had mentioned I was planning to travel out of the country, the nurse misunderstood and gave me the Hep A vaccine (I was planning to go to Germany, not a third-world country!).  I realized it right afterward, but had to wait until my next appointment to begin the Hep B series.  But, well, now I'm vaccinated against both.  After reading Sedona's account of her ordeal with Hep A, I'm really glad I'm protected against it!

Sexually active people should ask their doctors about getting the Hep B vaccine.  It's given to children now routinely as part of their childhood vaccinations.  The disease can kill you, and it's preventable.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, so you can get back to having lots of fun!

Please don't forget about Hep C in all of this, especially for those of you who have multiple partners (most of us probably!)

The number of college educated (MS or greater) men who do not wash their hands before leaving the bathroom.  I would expect it from a construction worker.  Some days I feel like the only one who does.  It is just a courtesy if nothing else.

HepA is the vaccine they give to traveler's.
HepB for daycare centers, nurses, lab technician's etc - those exposed to blood-borne pathogens.

Enjoy your trip!

Adult Industry Medical, a great organization based in LA but active around the country. They're set up for adult industry professionals but are open to all.

So true... but as one who washes up before leaving the bathroom....
my bare hands always go right for the bare handle of the bathroom door.I always try to remember to use a paper towel for the next time, but usually never happens... too much on my mind or whatever.

Just yesterday...after washing up...turn to leave bathroom...run into acquantance leaving the crapper...who believe it or not...goes to shake my hand. Holy Shit! I made a quick joke about where he's been and he laughed, got my drift, and backed off.

The bottom line... Shit happens no matter what measures one will take! Hopefully, we make the right choices but dam...sometimes Big Jim gives a hard time in more ways than one . Boinnnngggg!
Cheers!

The AMA states:

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP)recommends
hepatitis B vaccination for everyone 18 years of age and younger,
and for adults over 18 years of age who are at risk for HBV infection,
which include:  Sexually active heterosexual adults with more than one
sex partner in the prior 6 months. . .

Thank you for the good wishes for my trip, but this all took place years ago.

I, too, have been vaccinated for Hepatitis B when I worked in the educational sector. If memory serves me correctly, I also was vaccinated for "A" in the military, but now you have me wondering. Thanks for the valuable post.

Hugs,
Ciara
