Does it surprise you that some of these discussion boards go months/years w/o input?

Does it mean without postings?
You said discussion boards and not postings. So it's not like everybody was not answering this post on purpose and I ruined the idea. Does input means good thinking posts and there are people like me that answer with stupid ones?
I think it means like some of those Regional Boards and others where nobody ever posts, right?
No it does not surprise me. There is my input.

What surprises me is that TER has kept so many of the dead boards on life support instead of just pulling the plug.

I mean honestly, what do you expect from a place like let's say Kansas?

Sadly, TER has yet to recover from its self-imposed US hiatus following the passage of FOSTA/SESTA. While it was gone the initiative was handed to other sites. Covid didn't help either.
We do have a fair number of postings here and on a few other boards. But the rest of the place is a wasteland. Which is a shame. I joined ten years ago and it was great. I hope TER makes a comeback but I see no sign of it.

Thanks for keeping the P&R board alive. Oh, sorry. I thought you were Laffy. But you do your job too.
I on the other hand don't bring nothing to this place. But that's what we do.

Personally I kind of regret doing my part in keeping P&R alive during the "dark days" Now if we could only turn it into a true leper colony and anyone posting there would have to STAY there, that is an idea I could get behind..

Robertini, I'm referring to the lack of new posts, whether they be questions or answers, on all of the various Discussion Boards as A whole, such as regional ones, topic-oriented ones, all of them. Here in the General Discussion Board it is not a problem for two main reasons: it is the very first one at the top of the list of boards, and by its very name, almost any subject can be discussed here, it's a catch-all.

It appears that I didn't word my question well enough so that it would be readily understood.

I feel lucky that I'm in the DC area that seems to have some life to it. But I agree nowhere near as before.

There were always dead regional boards (and many of the general boards too), some from the time they were first created. A good example is the Kansas board as GaG mentioned. However, the sad thing is that there were some really lively boards back in the day (prior to the FOSTA/SESTA shutdown and COVID) that never came back to their former glory. A good example of that is the Las Vegas board and the Newbie board.

to TER, were you aware that this website was not accessible from IP addresses within the US from April of 2018 to December of 2019?  That's the period where many formerly vibrant discussion boards bit the dust as TER members left the site for other sites that were still visible in the US.  Some have started to come back to their former glory, but I don't think there are any that are at the same level as before the TER dark period.  Stormy mentions Las Vegas, but there are others I used to post on like Orange County and San Diego that are still on life support, and Los Angeles,  formerly one of the most active, is nowhere near what  it was prior to April 2018.

Its simple mathematics.  "Users online" now hovers mostly  in the 3000-5000 range throughout the day, but before the US shutdown, it was often in the 50,000-100,000 range during hours I was typically here.

is that you are dead serious about not taking this place seriously.

Yes, I have become aware of the shutdown and its ramifications. That's why when I scanned the various boards here, this question came to me.

And on top of it all COVID19 hit in March of 2020. The number of providers has dropped off significantly as well as hobbyists.

While there are still trolls and fake accounts, many have been banned. You may have noticed a number of stalkers and trolls are gone. Some insider baseball, one user had three accounts with three aliases, so six user names in total. That person is gone. You may have noticed a 'drop-off' in postings and activity these past few weeks because of it.
