I was never into choppers.  Mostly always because I worked in an ER and had to repair too many of their riders.  But have known many who did, including some ladies.  The start of DoctorGonzo's adventure made me think again about why people like them and I remember back to the time when a colleague of mine, went on his Harley up the Al-Can Highway...  in the early days.  But to all these chopper riding souls, it was never about riding a motor cycle... it was always about freedom and living a dream.

So, while I toil away at my job and say yessir to those around me, while I deal with the petty neighborhood politics of kids' sports and wrestle with my children's need to rebel, I will always consider the thought, that somewhere there is one man living the maximum expression of the dream of true freedom.

I will always think that for him, that is freedom.  For others, freedom is measured differently.  Maybe my freedom is the challenge of court time for a child gifted with athletic talent that is on a par with Don Knots.  Maybe my freedom is the conversations that I have with my son and the things he tells me, about what it is like to be 12 again, with all the freedom of discovery ahead of you.  Or maybe the freedom that my daughter allows me a peek of, when we discuss if she wants to be a cheerleader... or the athlete that the cheerleaders cheer!

No matter what shape the box is, or the color on the surface of the box, it still contains the grains of freedom, a very nourishing meal.  So, I hope that I sound as happy as DoctorGonzo, and I hope that DoctorGonzo is as happy as am I.  And I thank him for reminding me of my freedoms.

Doctor....  happy trails.

Wow, Bizarro...

I liked your post.  I am a biker.  I am totally dependent on my Harley for transpo... even do my grocery shopping on my bike using my Supersack.. LOL
Biking for me is a way of life.  However, freedom comes in many forms.  I think about a friend of mine who is a parapalegic and is confined to his small assisted living apartment 90 percent of the time.  Freedom to him is having the small opportunites to have friends pick him up and take him places, get him out once in awhile out of his small confinement of his apartment.

Thanks for posting this, it does make one appreciate their freedoms!

I thought your post was going to say something bad had happened to him/that he'd passed. I knew about the chopper thing, and then reading your second sentence with "ER" after "rides into the sunset", I was like, OH NO! DUDE! Don't freak me out!

Best to you, Dr. G.

simply I admire what he is doing.!  and smile when I think of it... in spite of the fact that I would not do that!  but it is inspirational... not unlike B. Rutan !!  but with a different mode of transportation!!  lol

And I was really sad for about 3 seconds until I got distracted by a shiny object on my desk.

See, Doc, I care about you.
