Maybe I am just really uninformed (wouldn't surprise me...), but isn't one of the few charms of "the pill" that it makes a woman's monthly cycle very regular?

Aren't all or most providers on the pill? How often is a provider actually caught off guard by Mother Nature?

Ladies: when you book an appointment a couple of weeks in advance, don't you have a pretty good idea whether or not the appointment falls at a time when you are likey to have your "time of month?"

I was really anticipating a date with a certain lady, and today she cancelled because of a "surprise" visit from Mother Nature. She offered me an appointment in a few days (can't do it), but how likely is it that a woman is really "surprised" in this way?

My SO is on the pill, and she knows almost to the day what to expect from her schedule. Is that unusual?

With some oral contraceptives (ie the combined pill containing progestogen and oestrogen)  you know exactly when your period will be because you take it for 21 days then have a break for 7 days and your period comes a couple of days after you have stopped.

If you are on the 'mini pill' (containing only progestogen) you take it every day without a break and your periods come naturally so they could be irregular.

Some women can't take the combined pill for medical reasons other choose not to because the mini pill has is less likely to cause/exacerabate other health issues.

In fact NONE of the providers I know personally use the pill.  But as you imply; in such a profession, one would expect pill use to be standard procedure.

As it's been explained to me; the pill can have some unpleasant side-effects.  While it's not as bad as it was some years ago, the pill can cause weight gain.  It can also increase the risk of heart problems and many female cancers.

On the other hand, there's a huge female population that DOES use the pill.  Not being a woman, I lack the insight to really understand the problem.

There are other birth control options, such as an IUD, that do not regulate the menses and it is entirely likely for a woman to be "surprised" by her period.

If a provider is on the pill, it is for her own personal life.  Obviously, the risk of becoming pregnant while doing 'business' is essentially nill compared to catching STDs.  If she is covered (pun intended) for the first, she is hopefully covered for the later.  I guess protection can be lost in action, but given the risks, I just don't think the pill is first and foremost on a provider's mind...maybe I am wrong though.

HI Guys!! There is alot of other resource's of birth control these days...Thank God!! But most ladies will take the  alternative to the pill because of  complications alot of ladies have to the pill.Alot of us still dont know when that time of the month is going to hit.I think if you have a certain provider you enjoy seeing alot then it should be a discussed topic.
Personally I dont know when it will hit because I got my tubs tied but IM the type of provider that is very open to my gentlemen and comfort between the two of you make it easier to discuss anything." Exspecially What really pleases them is what I like to find out"!!

Even on the pill, you can have those unexpected times. The Depo Privera shot is great because you don't get "your friend" at all.

What this product does is offer up to 12 full hrs of protection during your period. It holds rather than obsorbs menstral fluid, you should be able to wear it twice as lond as a tampon. It can not be used with an ( IUD) and it is not a contraceptive.

I personally do not use the pill I tried years ago however it makes me very ill. So when I decided a few years ago I was never going to have children again I had my tubes tied.

Womens bodies are so different that if you are very stressed it will either prolong your period or skip it all together making the next mth much heavier and painful.
i just turned 37 and a few mths ago I had my period every 10 days for about 3 mths..........this was not fun and actually it was scary because my body & hormones were driving me crazy.

I do know one thing though........... I am the horniest right before my period starts....

Yep. I'm on the pill. If I am spotting, I pop in my diaphram. I have a pretty good idea when it is happening, but stress, lack of sleep, and rough sex can make me spot. Sounds like she had a yeast infection. She is trying to polite.

I am not on the pill but choose another form of contraception. Throught the different stages of my life, my regularity has changed. I used to be one of those women who could tell you that on a certain date, at a certain time I would start. However, I've noticed that it changes and I have been surprised a few times.

It's hard being a woman sometimes. *wink*

Almost all the women I have dated have enjoyed sex during their period (unless they were having major cramps), and once they realized that I am completely comfortable with a completely natural function of the human female body, the only question left was how many towels to put down.

One GF used to say "Love me, love my period".  A bit extreme, but I agreed with her point.

I don't use the pill myself, I use other forms of BC because of complications that I have with the pill. I have also never been all that regular with my period. I can usually tell by the way my body feels when I'm about to start...besides getting EXTREMELY horny, my breasts ache and I feel bloated. THe problem is this can happen up to 5 days before Auntie Flow visits. So soemtimes I will schedule an appointment and start my period right before my scheduled appointment. As long as I'm not feeling nauseous or have bad cramps I will usually just contact the client and let him know. If he's okay with it, I will just use an Instead cup for our appointment. That product works great, but does take some practice getting it in right so it doesn't leak.
As for "surpise visit" meaning "better offer", some of you guys see a conspiracy everywhere! xxx Octavia.
