I'd had/done all the above and still got inundated with the dang emails from the SoBig virus. Still swatting at them, altho now they are just trickling in...
I understand it's due to die on 9/10..how interestingly close to 9/11......

I have four computers (2 notebooks and 2 desktops) all running anti-virus software which is frequently updated. Nevertheless, I was surprised to find the Sobig virus on two of the computers. Sobig and Blaster(LoveSans) have been two of the worst infestations ever.  More serious and more frequent infections are predicted.  Suggestions to everyone using and depending on computers for their business or personal use:

1. Install antivirus software such as Norton or McAfee.

2. Set the antivirus software to update virus definitions automatically.  Keep it up to date and renew your subscription annually.

3. Set the virus software to scan you entire disk(s) once a week overnight or when you don't need access.  You can "catch" a virus between updates and may not discover it sitting on your hard drive unless you scan the entire disk(this is what happend to me).

3. Set Windows to check for critical updates and then automatically download and install them routinely (at least once a week).  You can set this up under Control Panel - System - Automatic Updates - Settings.  The risk of a problem with an update is less than the risk of a virus infecting your computer.  Microsoft is considering making this feature mandatory in future software versions.

It is easy to ignore these simple tasks until you have a problem at which point you might have some serious damage and downtime.

Just a suggestion from someone who is very dependent on his computer.

My ATF provider brings her computer by occasionally so I can connect to my wireless LAN to update her Windows critical updates and virus definitions.

Well it had been too long and she got the MS Blaster worm.  She had to come over so I could fix it.  (Dang I'd hate to try to fix it on her dialup connection...)

These are good suggestions, I stress the Windows critical updates...

I'm connected all the time but sometimes forget myself to update my downstairs computer...
