Re:Cold calling? New marketing tool or LE Trap?

I received a "cold call" on my cell phone last Friday from an unknown provider (or one who claimed to be) who said she got my number from another provider who highly recommended me to her.  That first provider, who I had seen only once about a year, has called me numerous times since requesting that I stop by for a session.  Although this first provider was attractive and professional (an easy 7 or 8 if I reviewed her),she did not click with me and I politely told her I would call her if I had the time in the future. I am currently seeing an adorable provider at the moment and have  no real desire to see this "one time" provider again.  Now I am getting calls from this unknown provider who has no reviews or a website.  Again I have no interest in following up on this unknown provider.  I consider this latest call an invasion of my privacy and am considering action against the first provider for "marketing" my phone number to others. This may be a LE trap. Am I the only one out there that this has occurred to?

Dear Otto ...
Sounds like a discussion currently on the LA Board under  "virginescorts".

I am so very sorry this happened to you, it is happening to other gents as well.  What if your wife or such had answered the phone? Most of that type of sensitive info doesnt get passed along with the number, I would imagine.

I believe it is a marketing tool, because I have been solicited at least 3x by people on the internet selling cyber black books. Of course I refused. I feel that it's intrusion.  Many of us ladies dont even keep numbers, let alone sell or buy them. However even off the internet, this has happened occasionally.  I am sure others can more accurately cite the surrounding facts of those occasions.

You were an extreme gentleman about it.

Take care.

Otto,

This sounds almost identical to a similar call I received a short time back.  Send me a TER private message if you want to compare notes....ie: provider who "supplied" the number, caller's name & number, etc.

I received a similar call recently.

She gave the name of a provider I had seen several times on the west side of LA who is no longer working under her old name.  We spoke for a few minutes and she sounded legit, but again doesn't have any advertisements or reviews.  Claims to be a nurse in real life and that she's been doing this for a few months.

The provider who she claims to have received my name from is, I believe, now advertising again with a new name and number.  The voice on her message sounds similar and reviews are very similar, but this "referring" provider has not returned any calls.

The whole thing is very suspicious.

I returned a call from a client who I had not heard from and for some reason we were not going to be able to meet. Before we hung the phone up he asked me if I had given anyone his number? I said no, I would never call you unless you call me first. I asked him again what the name was and he said Kim and that her friend gave her the number? I still think this is weired he just assumed it was me because he had not seen anyone in mths. So I do think it is some sort of Marketing scam. I reassured my client that discretion is my highest priority, he felt better after our conversation. I am not clear on how other providers work however I would never give a number out or call a client unless they call me first.

Do what I would do if received a number I don't recognize on my cell phone, don't pick it up, unless you are expecting a call, and Private Numbers, answer at your own risk.  Although  most of the time, I let the voice mail pick it up.  If the person has something important to say, they will leave a message.  When I don't recognize the name or the call back number, I save it and ignore future calls from that number.

This also smells of LE, beware of what you say in calls like that, there may be a tape recorder on the other end.  Call me paranoid.

Same here, Mara.  Good for you!

Now that you mention this Kim, I wonder if this is the same Kim who was mentioned about 3 weeks ago on the LA board, who had something to do with being a nurse, or knowing someone who was...

Someone around here must remember the title of that thread... I really do wonder if we are  back to the original question...

HMMMM.  The unknown provider who called me also claimed to be a nurse working in Brentwood.  Very suspicous.

An Agency whom I was not dealing with provided my number to an extremely attractive provider that travels with her husband when featuring or escorting. I received the call very late in the evening and did not responded since the number was blocked but a voice mail was left with a number to call.

I called that number and no one responded so I asked for her to call back again. I then get a disturbing call in the morning from non other than her husband making treats and harsh remarks. Although it was not a LE it was wrong that my private number was given out W/O I given the Agency permission too and even more when I am not dealing with the Agency at all. They asked me to forgive them since no pun was intended and since they knew that I have always wanted to see her they thought they had done the right thing.

My .02 cents

Interesting, the "cold caller" who contacted me claimed to be a nurse too.  She said her name was "Nina" and that she was in Brentwood.

She gave the name of a provider who I had seen several times, who is no longer working, or at least is no longer using that name.

I have not been able to that provider to find out if she had given out my information to anybody.  Her old pager number seems to go to somebody who doesn't speak English...

1. Provider and/or agency collects a list on names and numbers and then sales the list.

2. Girl popped. Agrees to go to work in exchange for favorable disposition of her case.

3. Girl is really legit. Rather than writting her own review, she stumbles badly out of the blocks.

This one stinks to the high heavens. Wouldn't touch this one with a ten foot pole.

Speaking as an attorney, this one is a near perfect sting if you are dumb enough to buy it.  Remember, entrapment happens where the intent to commit the crime comes from law enforcement.  It isn't entrapment if the police only offer you the opportunity to break the law.  If you respond show up and agree to do the deed for money, you're toast.  STAY AWAY!

I tend to agree.

The provider who supposedly "refered" me has disappeared recently.  I've emailed with some of the other guys who got these calls and it seems like all the referrals come from providers who have recently disappeared, "left the business," "moved back home" or some such.

My guess is that a few of our favorite girls were busted and somebody's got their info.

And I agree, stepping into this one would be stupid.  There are lots of girls out there who are known quantities and lots of fun.  Why take risks with women who won't even supply a picture.

Damn! I leave the boards for a few days and what happens, somebody is playing "bait and hook".
I would be HIGHLY paranoid of anyone cold calling me for services. Be alert and if it is too good to be true, it generally is.

Truth is, there was nothing about this that sounded "too good to be true."  She sounded like she was OK looking and didn't indicate prices out of normal range.

It's the cold-calling aspect that was weird.  That combined with the fact that the woman giving the "referral" had never checked with me herself, despite being generally professional in every other way.  And the fact that the woman who called appears not to advertise anywhere, though she claims she's been doing this for a few months.

Whatever.  Like I said, not going to bother.
