According to this UCSF study, swallowing is pretty darn safe. Safer than protected anal.

That's because to become HIV infected, the virus has to be injected directly into the blood stream--i.e. through IV needle; or through chafing and bleeding (even microscopic) during anal sex.  That's why you don't see a statistically significant incidence of HIV in those who have purely a heterosexual relationship.  While direct blood stream contact can occur in vaginal sex, there are too many factors that prevent contraction of the disease:  (1) ample lubrication (vagina is a mucous membrane, with natural lubrication; anus is not); (2) if no open sores or abrasions in vagina, ejac deposit will not enter the blood stream; (3) even if female is on her period, the blood  "flow" is in the opposite direction of blood stream such that even HIV infected male would not infect female;  (4)If female is infected, still unlikely that male will contract from vag sex unless male has open sores or bleading which will allow the infection to enter bloodstream.

As an aside, the CDC has recently published an admission that HIV stats re heterosexual intercourse had been previously inflated because they didn't want public to think that HIV was a disease limited to the homosexual male group.

What about Magic Johnson? Where was his magic Johnson? Or was it magic from some other Johnson? I tend to believe he is straight (though admitting otherwise might cost him more than admitting he was HIV positive), so I'm not about to ignore the potential for hetero transmission.

I don't think the vast majority of the men there are drug addicts or frequent anal sex practitioners.

I think the CDC studies are related to the unique US situation.  Not enough studies are done in Africa and Asia.

Read this story in LA Times about rising AIDS cases in the third world.  Although in the case of China, there are other factors like tainted blood donation that accelerate the spread of AIDS, there are simply not enough data to claim that hetero sex is a low risk proposition.

sorry, they won't permit a link, so here's the first paragraphs........

before getting TOO alarmist or stirred up, it isn't a case where you can transpose their experience directly to ours

we take education, condom usage, lubricants (protects the vagina from micro-tearing), testing facilities, adequate nutrition, and freedom from other diseases or infections as a matter of course.

A population that finds any or all of the above prohibitively expensive will be defenseless.

"Of all the warnings about the grim advance of Aids around the world, perhaps the starkest comes from Peter Piot, head of UNAids. "We are," he says, "only at the beginning of the epidemic."

An estimated 42m people are infected with the HIV virus, most in sub-Saharan Africa and most condemned to an early death - a humanitarian, social and economic disaster. But if this were not bleak enough, a second front is rapidly opening up in Asia: China and India, the world's two most populous countries, may also be gripped by Aids.

Projections vary. Advisers to the US Central Intelligence Agency forecast that India will have the biggest population of sufferers in the world by 2010 - between 20m and 25m. China will not be far behind with 10m-20m. A separate estimate by the American Enterprise Institute, a Washington think-tank, suggests between 9.7m and, in the worst case, nearly 30m Chinese could be infected by 2010, and between 9m and 32m Indians.

"The figures are simply more than the mind can absorb, like the contents of a Pandora's box gone mad," says Stephen Lewis, UN special envoy for Aids in Africa. "The numbers have now reached levels where life imitates science fiction."

Then why didn't Magic's wife contract the disease?  Again all the factors are against hetro contraction.  Now, I'm not saying disregard "safety"; but with reliable (hetero) partners (and of course no anal) the chances of contraction slim and none.

And, of course, swollowing is "way ok."

It's called the "Myth of Heterosexual Aids" by Michael Fumento.  And yes, the CDC did "doctor" the stats; they admitted it.

Try Barnes and Noble to get info on the  book; they don't have it but you can link to available sources.  (see link below)
