Over 1/2 million polled and NYC is number 22 in the friendliness
category...LA is last at #25.(Wassup with that?)Are New Yorkers that unfriendly?
... At least NYC is number 1 in style.
I guess you can dress us up but don't want to talk to us...lol...
Although as a native New Yorker...I sometimes stroll the streets of my youth and say to myself ...I guess I'm not in Kansas (oops..NYC)anymore...although I still feel I have that NY state of mind.

As far as the top three friendly cities:
1)Nashville
2)Honolulu
3)San Antonio
Cheers!

Here's the press release...you can move around within the different links to see more details and other categories.

I guess all that sun makes people happy :) Best city I ever lived in. Only city I ever felt "safe" in that I could walk home at night and never felt fear. It is a small town(lots of golf) very reasonable to live in and very clean. There is a huge group of Gay men and woman but it never was an "issue" for me (maybe that is why the town is so "neat"lol). I am now in NYC and people in groups (sidewalks, crossing streets, lines for bank..) are rude. It is hard to get used to. NYorkers on a one to one basis have been cool, some even helpful. Maybe it just "Culture Shock" and I have noticed I move at a faster pace than I do on the West Coast.East Coast men sure do look sharp :)

I'm a big fan of the Hawaiian islands, but I haven't always had the aloha spirit in Honolulu.....I've had several lousy customer service experiences incl. a hotel & a restaurant....Also, a tour company left me stranded at HNL (that's there airport) after failing to provide me w/ground transportation back to Waikiki after day trip to Molokai.....

Big Island is the best anyway IMHO......

As someonw who grew up in NYC and relocated to the beautiful city by the bay.  I can attest that the opinions of many of those polled reflect the opinion of many who have visited SF among my social circle.

The natural beauty is unsurpassed, in my opinion, among the major cities listed; the climate is benign - not too cold, not too hot and definitely not humid; the people are nice and quality of life is great - although a bit pricey.

NYers suffer a bit from myopia - being constantly told that NYC is the center of the universe.  Maybe that's so but being the center of it all has its downsides - the density of the population and the problems it causes - traffic, etc. makes for some very cranky people - especially when it's hot & humid.  Whenever I go back east, especially to my hometown, you just feel the negative energy from people who are not happy or don't know how to be happy.  Not to say I don't miss certain things about NY - but the general lack of positive energy of strangers on the street is not one of them.

My disposition changed for the better since I relocated.  There are other cities besides NYC which offer many of the better aspects of living in NY - just not at the scale that NYers are accustomed to.  My advice to NYers is to explore the world outside NY - you just may discover things may actaully be better than in NY - heresy aside that is what I discovered.

nashville. never toured it but been through it many times while traveling and vacationing. wonderful people in tn and clean air. very underrated tn is.

florida, tampa bay area, approachable and easy going.

didn't find sf to be particularly "friendly". elitist attitudes with superiority complexes but damn good talk radio and i love the clean air.

la and vegas aren't particularly approachable but once you get going, things are rolling.

chicagoans = hands down the most outgoing and friendly next to nashville. love the gents from atlanta but never visited it per se.

texas is another planet.

the world does revolve around ny. nyers are extremly friendly but often brash at first. there are many nyers in fl so similar bent. never been to miami. plan to go.
