There’s an article in today’s Wall Street Journal about how companies are exploring the use of scents to make the workplace more productive. It cites earlier studies that show specific scents do influence our behavior. The study that got my attention is one that showed a combination of lavender and pumpkin pie scents has a sexual arousal effect. It found that combination enhanced penile blood flow!

There's a hotel that has that scent and when I check in, I'm all set to go.

I haven't researched it, but mint is used by singers too.  It tends to clear the nasal passages and so improves breathing.  Which would, also improve running.
