This means everyone tries to pump-up viewership so they can get the highest ad rates for the next 6 months.  So, as you can imagine, they run an endless stream of stories about sex, with anything related to prostitution being their favorite subject.

Just like the subject they're covering, it's all about the money.

Not sure if it's a rerun. Sex slaves in massage parlors in San Fran, but not too clear if they're forced or not, just caught the show during the middle of it. That channel seems to specialize on jail and prostitution shows. I don't get that channel in Canada so I only watch it while in the States.

I didn't know that... I don't find it that interesting but I guess the general public does. To me it's more like a car accident happening, you don't want to watch but you can't help yourself by looking.

there are plenty subjects that are news worthy other than this. Why the media insists on bringing us more attention instead of covering something more important, I'll never know. I wish they would spend their time, effort, and monetary resources covering stories about how millions of Americans are going to starve or freeze this winter....or how about taking some of the millions of dollars used to come after us to help give a homeless child a place to call home for Christmas.

And what about the show where they surprise predators on camera.  It's like watching a train wreck at the site of a car crash.  I don't feel sorry for the victims but it made me feel dirty just watching it.  I avoid that show like the plague.

The answer to this is quite simple:  sex sells.  The other basic "principle" of the nightly news is "if it bleeds, it leads."  Charming, huh?  Apparantly, people love to watch people bleed but could care less if they starve to death -- unless its en masse.

Let's be serious here. Is an American man with a remote in his hand gonna watch Frosty The Snowman or scantily-clad women traipsing around in heels? (Personally, I'd go for "A Charlie Brown Christmas" myself!)

Add some beer and fried food and we've got the definition of pure American bliss. It's funny how the word "Intellectual" is a pejorative one in the English language. I'm as guilty as the mass by watching this type of shows and doing jack shit about it but I like to open my realm at times and try a wide range of entertainment or else my brain can easily mushy and to me that's as scary as my boobies or face going too far South.

- sex is an interesting subject.  Network TV rating will go up with a sex-related show.

- Internet changed the world.  Men interested buying, women interested in selling ... Anyone can take a sneak peek on the Internet.

- people are dishonest about sex.  Many know prostitution is nothing new, always there ... But they rather have network TV to announce it.

I can't stand TV. What a waste of finite life it is!

Surely John there are very many interesting documentaries on channels such as The Smithsonian channel, The Discovery channel and so forth. HBO also has/had some pretty darn great shows

I'm with John. I have A TV and that is because my daughter visits often and would DIE without one. I do occasionally watch a sporting program but I can't be bothered with the rest of the drama.

Once in a while -- like every couple of months -- I'll pop in a movie or something; but overall I don't like TV. It is too much time consumed for the informational buck if you know what I mean.

I'm sure that stuff is all really cool; but it's just so ... time consuming. (*shrug*)
