Will the routine blood work that my doctor orders once or twice a year automatically screen for STDs. My doctor is a casual personal friend to both myself and my wife. I don't feel comfortable requesting to be tested.

Is there general rule about how often you should do it?

I know that here in PA, PP is required by state law to report positive results of certain STIs to the state.  I don't mind testing with my name, for the sake of EVERYONE'S safety and security, but *shrug* different strokes.

use a green dot card and that will create no paper trail. I test every 3weeks through my ob who knows what I do for a living.
Go to another dr if you want to see someone who does not know your wife but test is all. Don't allow your concerns to keep you from testing.

Many of those clinics and Planned ParentHood do not test for everything. Invest the $300-$1000 to get tested for everything including hepatitis (for you folks that like to lick ass).

A credit card you buy with cash at a drug store. You pay a fee to load the card, then you put as much on it as you want ($20-500). There are prepriced cards ($50, $100) that you can buy and have the card immediately or you can get the above mentioned one and wait a little bit for the card to be mailed to you. The first one is reloadable for 1/2 the fee and the second one is a one time use card.

I have similar confidentiality concerns.  I've used t-std as well as the county health department.  I have yet to find complete anonymity.  You might find it at Planned Parenthood.  

With t-std I used Paypal.  I'm not anonymous because Paypal obviously knows who I am.  I don't know if they pass along my name when passing along a payment.  No indication that t-std would keep it if they did.  T-std uses the big commercial blood drawing labs (hence they don't take cash ... but money orders might work).  When you get there this means they don't call your name, just a number ... unlike most of their other customers.  So if you bump into a friend in the waiting room, questions could arise.  A name might be preferable at this stage because you can always claim that your doctor sent you there to get your cholesterol checked.

At the county health department I needed to show my ID to demonstrate I was a resident as well as fill out a form for their records.  They take cash ($20 was my cost I think) so it is anonymous in that sense.  Running into someone I know there is very unlikely.

The most serious issue arises if you test positive for something.  T-std has no real way of contacting you or reporting to the state/county as required.  What does the health department do?  Call your home and leave a voice mail?  I haven't been positive so I have no idea how it goes down.

As it stands, I'm not thrilled with either setup right now.  I may have to check out planned parenthood.

I get routine blood work done four times a year for issues with diabetes and high cholesterol.  My doctor's office has a question on the form I fill out asking if I would like to be screened for STD's.  Obviously I check "no".  Once I check that box "no" it is a violation of my privacy for him to run an STD test.  Add to this the simple fact that blood work is very expensive. There is a fee for every type of screening that is performed by the lab. Doctors and labs will not run a test that is not authorized and that your insurance company may not pay for.

Adult Industry Medical. Those of us in the porn industry use this service. It's private and it's available to the public. It's not cheap but your results come via email and it's discreet.

There aren't a lot of labs available around the country but you have your results usually in 3 days. They have a lot of great information on their website and counselors to help you with any questions you night have.

You can get free testing if you get a large life insurance policy. They will come to your home get your blood and urine and test for everything.

you have to request it

Normal bloodwork doesnt screen for std's.

You have to ask for it specifically.

Hi,

I'm an escort and when I first entered the business I was vigilant 2x a year or more on getting tested.

But, fortunately nothing came up.

I honestly thought that was statistically improbable but again as time went on nothing, nothing, nothing.

Just got tested recently and again nothing.

Condoms do work and if an escort is impeccable in her health and lifestyle and mostly selective with her clients than I believe that she will be fine.

I truly believe that the men in this hobby are largely NOT THE GUYS THAT GO OUT ON THE WEEKEND AND SLEEP WITH PEOPLE or Women FROM BARS.

The men in this hobby are good loving family men who go home on the weekends and spend time with their wife or wives (lol).

When the pool of men engaging in this are largely not the sexual players then this reduces the odds of STD as the large mass of women that are providers are seeing guys that are not sexual players and who they are using condoms with.  

Another way to look at it this is to look at the studies published that show the statistical occurrence of STD in Nevada brothels ....

it is incredibly low almost none and they have never once had a case of HIV.

Nevada brothels in my opinion do not represent the upper crust so my guess is that STD figure would be even lower in the escorting world.

AIM testing and planned parenthood are amazing testing places.

AIM yes is pretty expensive but very confidential, and only took two days to get all my labs back from them.

Planned parenthood is good though, bc there are so many locations and very affordable for anyone.

Planned parenthood in Ny does in fact have to let the health dept  know if you test positive ,requires ID and does keep records . NYS health clinic same they actually call you for your results even when negative.
The site I reccommended can be paid by money order your results can be seen online when they are completed after a quick phone call in and it uses labs all over the country ,I use Quest Labs.
If in fact it is expense you are concerned with and not being anon then whichever is cheapest I guess is the route for you .Priately this is the cheapest I have found .
The time involved in going into and getting tested at and then going back to get your results from a state run health clinic is enormous in my area. Last time I did it thatway I was at the clinic for 6 hrs. It will in fact take all day to get in, get called get ,tested and then wait there's more! Go back and do it again to get your results that took 2.5 hrs last time and I was surrounded by sick people who couldn't afford to get care anywhere else coughing all over me , I'll pass .Also they ask why you want it as if no one needs these tests. Weird.....
Anon HIV testing is available in all areas for free ,some charge 10-20 dollars and the results are in 10 - 20 minutes.
Not wanting to go because of privacy or expense is not really a great excuse in my opinion. I go once a month , The expense i consider to be nonminal for the service provided, peace of mind is priceless and my health I can not put a price tag on . Kendall

What if you are married and the results come back positive for an STD? How are you going to explain that?

If you test positive it means you have something that needs treatment not testing for it does not mean it doesn't exsist clearly, only that you do not feel quite as guilty. Many STD's are in fact very treatable  and only pose a problem if in fact they go untreated.  Kepping in mind that Napolean as well as Hitler both shared one thing in common Syphillis it makes you nuts.If you had something you should absolutely know , no doubt in my mind. This thread is about discretion in getting tested, not weather or not one should be tested. I am not advocating that we should ignore getting tested for STD's.

It is, quite simply, very easy to get tested anonymously.  Of course, if you wind up being infected then it's time to sit down with your spouse and have a very unpleasant conversation.

most life insurance companies require mandatory blood samples for policies over a certain face value ($250k?), which I imagine is used to screen for HIV.   Its obviously not anonymous but when I was rejected I did have to call to find out that my blood pressure and cholesteral were too high (i.e. would not have been public had I been positive).

Anyone else in the insurance and or lab biz know if insurance companies test for other STD?
