unlikely that they'd violate it so the spam is originating from somewhere else.

Sorry 'bout the alias, but don't want anyone to get ticked at me.  I was just curious, for the longest time, I have had this one email account set up just for the hobby.  Now, after about a year, I'm receiving spam with my "name" on it.  I say "name" because it was set up under a fake name (i'm sure i'm not the only one).  So, am i the only one getting spammed now, or is TER selling our email addresses?  And I say TER because even though I've met some ladies, they have my name, not the name the account is set up under.  Only TER has that name.  Just curious to see...

It's not going to be TER. From a logical standpoint they're high profile enough as it is. They're smart enough to realize this and not try to make nickels and dimes doing something that would jeopardize the dollars.

You'd have to think about every single thing you've done with the email address. It only takes once. It could also be your ISP for that email addy. They will scream from the mountain tops that they don't sell them...but it's not true. "Leaks" with no explanation happen on that end.

Good thing they're disposable. Sometimes ya just gotta switch 'em out.

I have had it happen to me too.  I have made the mistake of being lazy and using a real credit card with my real name for ads.  Didn't start happening until city-vibe started charging for "free" ads that I used a card for.

I have a dedicated email address for TER, as well as dedicated addresses' for several other sites. In two years I have never gotten a SPAM on the TER emial address. For the other email addresses' and sites, I have gotten 5-10 SPAM per day, so I know exactly which site I visit that sells my email address for SPAM. So I just close those.

So, to prevent SPAM, use a separate email address for each website you give an address too. If you join the site and get SPAM, then deal with it. If you don't join, just close the email address.

it seems every time I log on to TER, the next time I check my e-mail I have lots of spam. hmmmmmm

Other providers have shared your name associated with your email address as part of the screening process. Of course I am speculating that your spam is hobby related.
If the spam is not related to the hobby, then your guess is as good as mine.

TER would not be stupid enough to violate our privacy by selling our email addresses.

If you can trace it to one site then fine...

But be wary of spyware & "tool bars" which track your activities for targeted ads.  I've not had this happen on my TER email...  but my regular email happens all the time.  Years ago I got a IE upgrade through Yahoo where I have my email.
I use IE8 "In Private" for adult sites so maybe it works.
