I too live in a rural area, but in the northwest.  We are NOT on any providers list of tour stops.  Some ladies do visit for other reasons; property purchase, relaxation, friends and family.  If they know that they are going to have free time, seeing a few clients can be a good way to see some of the local sights, learn about the area and make a little extra cash.  It might also beat sitting alone in a hotel room watching Storage Wars :)
Whatever the purpose of her trip, if she's willing to negotiate her rate, you need to bring something to the table. It's a negotiation, not a "I'm going to low ball my rate because I'm desperate". Something like offering to show her some of the local clubs, or an art show, or concert, or something where she can have fun and learn about the area. If all you want and are willing to do is an hour alone in her room, then expect to pay her regular rate and don't ask for a discount. At least she has reviews.

Friends,
Perhaps I am being a bit paranoid here, but I wanted to get some thoughts regarding a travelling provider who will be visiting my town soon:

She uses a booker, and when I emailed for more info, as her ad stated, I could not find any rates listed anywhere. So I requested of her booker where I could find the rates, and specifically did NOT ask for dollar amounts themselves. The booker responded with HH and full hour rates, as well as noting that the rates are up for "negotiation...within reason." I have to say I've never encountered that in my 3+ years of hobbying.

I also find it odd the provider would commit to four days in our small city in the Northeast (about 120k people), with a limited review history on TER and none at all on another site (which shall remain nameless.)

I'm interested in how many would pass on this- because the little head is doing quite a bit of the thinking right now. Any similar situations out there? Or too many red flags.

I just see a provider who does things differently. Although most providers do not negotiate rates, that is by no means a rule. I actually know several that do.

You never know what civie business she has in your small town. She could be from there, or considering relocation there, and that would explain her extended visit.

I have what I guess could be considered "limited review history" and no reviews on other sites, but I'm a legit provider. We all start somewhere, especially if we are niche providers.

And traveling providers have the added pressure of having sunk/fixed costs beforehand.  They have already booked the plane ticket and the hotel room, and while they can back out, sometimes there is a fee in doing so (canceling the flight, for example).  So for them, some recovery is better than no recovery, and if it means getting a repeat client in the process, then so be it.

The negotiating part to me is just a provider being realistic.  It sure as hell is not a red flag.  It is a totally different ballgame than it used to be.

Maybe she committed to a smaller region because she felt that she would do better vs. the limited supply out there vs. a place like, say, New York, where there are many other alternatives.  Or maybe she has family nearby.  Who knows?

I would ask her point-blank, but I think you are being way too paranoid here.

Do her reviewers have other reviews? Once I know that a solid hobbyist has reviewed a lady I assume she is legit. Then my only real concern is whether or not she provides what I am looking for. Many ladies use screeners so I would have no concerns there. I think you answered your own question regarding flexible rates...Ladies often offer discounts when visiting more rural areas to reflect a different dynamic regarding economics and number of hobbyists.

And, as another poster stated, there may be many reasons for a lady to spend an extended amount of time in any area. I say make the date if she has legit reviews.

While I find it interesting that she's up for negotiations right out of the chute - it seems like many ladies are coming to grips with the  economic reality.

Then again - always always ALWAYS trust your gut.

Maybe I am naive to women not getting their full rate, but this is news to me. I personally wouldnt discuss my donation while in a room with someone. THey need to know that beforehand. I strongly advise you do not discuss money with a new provider especially if you are on the fence about it to begin with.
Again, I have not heard of women discussing their rate after the initial set up of appointment, or negotiating to a new first time client that is prob. looking to just book one hour.

My opinion of course, but I would air on the side of safety in the Northeast or anywhere for that matter :)

You say 120k then it is reasonable to assume most people know each other. Then, in that case the FBI is conducting a sting operation to get your ass.

People have different ways of doing things. And there could be a lot of legit reasons as to why she is touring her city. A good client....family or friends near by...etc....

BUT...ya gotta trust your instincts. If your innerself is shooting out warnings...take a pass.
