I've just been asked for one by a guy I've never heard of in my life - he has a distinctive name and also a given occupation I would remember. I told the provider asking I've no idea who he is.
For the ladies - does this happen very often to you? I'm astonished that someone would even try this, it's so easy to refute.
I've never been ask to give a fake review but I have gotten reference requests for a client that I saw many months or even a couple years ago. I might remember the name but not anything specific. So guys if you are using a provider as a reference, please try to use one that you have seen recently or send an email to jog our memory about the visit we shared.
This has happened to me a few times. I will never, ever give a reference to another provider unless I am absolutely sure of who the guy is and that I have seen him. I will never put another provider in danger by giving a fake reference. I have been asked to do this in the past and I'm sure I will be asked again in the future. the answer will always be no.
I've had this happen to me once and I replied to the provider and told her clearly I had no idea who this guy was and no record of him. I advised her to be careful of somebody trying to use a fake reference.
As stated above, it works for the guys if the ladies don't follow up so once in a while they may get lucky.
Upon further exploration I really do know this man. But name and geographical location were not enough to jog my memory. Since I genuinely am low volume, the mention of the hotel we met and the fact we shared a couple of drinks were enough to do it.
To err is divine? What was that quote? I'm feeling so divine...
