OK I know I am opening myself up to all sorts of abuse with this one but, I would judge, it is my turn in the barrel. On two occassions in the past 8 days I have experienced whatshall I call it.... limp dick.... after spending a long time in a hot tub that was very very hot.  You could say my c*ck waslike spaghetti, hard before I cooked it, soft afterwards.Anybode else over 50 have the same experience?  I guess I will have to settle for less hot hot tubs or reservemy soaks for after the main event!OK take your best shot... I won't duck!Lustman

"to the tooth?"  I prefer not to think of teeth in that scenario!!!Or at least not use the words "tooth" and "cock" in thesame paragraph.  Like I did just now! hahahahahahaLMps- And not to be evasive.....limp!As in "Put a rock in your shoe and go limp!"--modified by lustman at Thu, May 03, 2001, 23:19:27

Lustman, I've lived with the shame of jacuzzi induced limpus dickus myself but this could be the beginning of a support group (no group hugs required, thank you).  I first came across this phenomenon when I was only 36 and in quite good shape.  Fortunately, I was with my s.o. when it happened somewhat limiting my embarassment. We'd been drinking champagne in the jacuzzi, but when it was time to get intimate, I was not only light headed, but it caused my usual trusty partner to turn in for the night before either of us was ready to do so.  Since I'd never spent much time in a jacuz I was baffled to say the least (special romantic trip to San Francisco wasn't the time to discover this).Fast forward 10 years and my new s.o. has a spa on the patio outside her bedroom.  This is where I accumulated my considerable database on this subject.  After long soaks (one hour) and champagne I frequently experienced the same phenomenon if I didn't wait about 20 minutes to cool off.  I have no medical training, but I believe the heat of the jacuzzi makes so much of your blood go to the surface of your skin (for cooling) that you are temporarily unable to assemble your troops for the march on the holy city.   Alcohol certainly makes this situation worse.  I learned to get out, have a Coke, give yourself some time to cool off and then party.  Another thing I do is to start spending more time on the side.  Of course, limiting your overall time in the heat should help also.  I don't know how many other people have this problem, but I was relieved to find that it was only the jacuzzi and nothing else.  Somehow, they never get around to including this warning in the owner's manual when you buy one of those things.  They just say limit your exposure w/o saying why.  Well now you know why.BTW, Al dente!  Chrissie you've got a future on this board! LOL.

LM,I wish I could say that the affliction of the down on your upstroke was some form of divine retribution for unleashing the oatcake upon us but sadly I can not. What you are experiencing is simple physiology.  The vascularization, sorry the blood flow, to the male genitalia is designed to handle heat in very particular ways and one of those ways so to dilate under thermal stress thereby flowing blood out of the penis during a temperature increase.Although age plays some factor it is not much.  I know I had another shot but could not take that one either.  Damn.Your best remedy is to either reserve the hot tub to afterward "the main event" as you suggest or to give yourself some thermal refractory time i.e cooling off time.  The amount of time will vary by a couple of factors, your weight if your are overweight allow for more time, blood pressure is it with in norms or is high or low.  If low allow for a bit more time, temperature outside the tub, are you taking any vassopressive type medications -heart meds, high blood pressure, etc..  Any antihistamines or any anti-inflammatory such as aspirin or Motrin.  Finally have you been drinking any alcohol? In general 15-30 should be plenty of time.LM, as much as I wanted to could not find my shot here.--JP--modified by JP at Fri, May 04, 2001, 00:17:42

G2,Yes you are correct it is a function of biology and heat transfer.  In addition to hot tubs, steam baths, and dry saunas (to a much lesser extent.  Since, you have taken thermo, it is a function of the heat transfer rate, which of course has as a significant parameter of the presences of water.  So….) will also have the same effect on the equipment.  I posted a direct response to Lustman with the more boring medical details.--jp

LM,Actually Mathesar and myself are running the numbers.  We are looking at deflation as a function of heat but I am afraid that the data you have sent us has such small baseline values that we may not able to find anything. ;-).   Is there anyway you can start with something a little bigger. :-))There I finally found my shot.  Not the best one but at least it is one.  Seems such a potential tragedy to have you soft pitch this one and not be able to get at least one hit out of it.  :-)--JP--modified by JP at Thu, May 10, 2001, 12:18:04

I've experienced the same problem with the entire family of over the counter cold pills and antihistamins.I was really worried before I figured that one out.  I don't know how typical this reaction is with others, but it's a guaranteed downer for me.  Drug companies are so damned worried you'll operate "heavy equipment" and sue their asses that they neglect to tell you your own equipment won't work.

Very cold water induces something called the "mammalian response" which is a physiological response that shunts blood away for the extremities and to the core.  Although we would like to think our penis is the core our body thinks different. So it seems that you can't win for losing!--JP--modified by JP at Wed, May 09, 2001, 13:05:26
