Thank you for keeping America safe and allowing us the freedom and security. all my respect and gratitude to the past/present/the men and women we have lost defending us: there is not a single statement that describes what you mean to me and my family My hats off to all and I salute you
Thank you. US Navy 1974-1976 Was a sailor aboard the USS Hancock(4/74)...part of task force that evacuated Saigon. Watch the movie,The Deer Hunter...towards the end of the movie, there's a part where they show helicopters being pushed off the flight deck, into the ocean!...I was there! To bad we lost all those lives in Viet Nam for nothing!..N.Viet Nam took over S.Viet Nam anyhow. It is now Ho Chi Minn City(Communist rule). What a waste of lives!
John Stewar Mill said it best well over a century ago:
"War... is not the greatest evil which a nation can suffer. War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing worth a war, is worse.
A man who has nothing which he is willing to fight for, nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. As long as justice and injustice have not terminated their ever-renewing fight for ascendancy in the affairs of mankind, human beings must be willing, when need is, to do battle for the one against the other."
Here is a link to a picture which I think is the scene to which you refer.
The Domino Theory turned out to be wrong, and from the perspective of years I understand the pessimism about the war. There were at the time many brave young men who believed that they were serving the best interests of their country.
Thanks Greg....Yes,Operation Frequent Wind is correct....Were you there?...and yes, that is the pic i was referring to....Never thought i'd ever be a small part of american history...Go figure! Just in the right place at the right time,i guess. Thanks again!
And here's to Lorena for reminding us all that our freedoms are not free, and that we all need to remember those who have served, are serving, or have given with the ultimate sacrifice. A heartfelt thank you goes to all servicemen and women for their patriotism and dedication toward preservation of our way of life! Thanks Dear Heart Lorena
