You casually meet someone, you suspect that he is a hobbyist.

Not to intrude upon his privacy, but are there signs or "tells" which give us away to other hobbyists?  Or might give us away to the civilian population?

Other than running to the ATM for sudden large cash withdrawals?

The easiest sign to spot is when they wear a t-shirt that says 'I support TER'.

I once read that travelling Klu Klux Klan members used to ask for a "Mr. Ayak"--"Are You A Klansman?".  Or maybe one of those Mason hand signals.

How about, "Is there a Mr. Ayah here?"  AYAH standing for "Are You A Hobbyist"?

Or maybe two quick tugs on your left earlobe with your right hand...

Actually - if there were signs of hobbying it would ultimately lead to problems.  Just think about it.  If hobbyists could not remain anonymous wives (SO's), LE, business partners, family members, criminals (who would extort $$$) would all be able to find out.  None of which be positive.

Have to agree with you completly; It doesnt matter weather one is married, has an SO, or just plain out there walking "that path of life". This activity is deeply personal & private..Not to be discussed with most folks or to make them aware.

I have one friend whom  I met here on the TER GD board; Our personal situations resonated and we started to PM each other and we comiserated(sp?) over our mutual predicaments..We have never met but we help each other over the email & PM.

Besides my TER buddy..I do not discuss this with anyone..

I'm assuming that the OP is asking here if there are signs that could be recognized by other hobbyists, not by Spouses or the non-hobbying public. Not really sure if there are or not.  
I've spend a lot of time on the road and I've worked with one or two guys over the years who actually talked about hobbying openly with the other guys on a crew. I'm way more discreet than that. I've stopped short of recommending girls a few times...just decided that my hobby was better kept secret...

I think if you are real sexy, with a nice pair of low hanging balls and Gucci knock-off wallet full of crisp $100 bills and a toolbox in the truck of your car full of rubbers and a wife from Hell, then you are probably a hobbyist.

I saw a beautiful lady buying 2 different packages of condoms, baby wipes, a power bar, and a diet coke. I smiled to myself thinking that she very well could be a provider. Something about her clothing and her demeanor also set the stage for these thoughts.

Sometimes I see a hot woman & wonder if she's selling.
Then it hits me, the providers spend most of their day in hotel rooms, not at the gym, beach or clubs.

IMHO telling whether someone is a hobbyist or not can be difficult in many day to day situations.  The only way I know for sure is to attend a M&G party.

or Thailand or any other country where the hobby is legal and cheap, especially if you are a dirty, perverted old man. lol

I'm certainly NOT talking about hobbying with my friends, co-workers, my analyst, not my doctor (who is incredibly discreet when testing).  At last I have a place to talk about and read about the hobby.  It's a great release!

I'm fairly new, but I have absolutely no sixth sense about it


The men I have seen are a very diverse group, as are men on the street, and I don't see one "type" and know he is (unless he's pushing 70 with 2 hot 25 year olds on his arms!)
