I'm surprised it's legal in Turkey.

I knew Liechtenstein existed as a country but didn't know where it exactly
was and this map just made it clear it's sandwiched between Austria and Switzerland.

Sandwich was some kind of German sausage that goes with a dark foamy beer.  I'm learning a lot on this thread!

I didn't realize it was so small:
62 square miles; Manhattan Island (New York City) is 22 square miles.
Population: 37,666; Manhattan (NYC) 1.65 million
.
I was wondering what that extra little red area between Lithuania and Poland was: Kaliningrad Oblast, a member of the Russian Federation.
.
In the 6th grade, I could label all the blank world and US maps they could throw at me with ease. I cannot keep track of the jigsaw puzzle of the former Yugoslavian region and I would fail 6th grade geography today.

And the first thing that popped into my head was to wonder how many providers say those very words when the customer drops his pants.  Lol

...the legal fiction whereby one person can legally SELL something that is ILLEGAL for another person to buy. Still scratchin' my scaly head over this conundrum.

that they note whose held accountable, the buyer or seller. You can sell it, but it's illegal to buy it? You can buy it, but it's illegal to sell it? I guess it's better than both parties being held accountable.

It's functionally illegal in total. However they only punish the male.  I believe this would be unconstitutional in the USA under the doctrine of equal rights.

but it would most likely be challenged using the defense of "selective prosecution" not the "doctrine of equal rights" whatever the fuck that is.

For example, it is illegal to sell tobacco products to minors, but not illegal for the minor to request to buy same.

Similarly with trading securities:   It is illegal for a stock broker to buy or sell a security based upon undisclosed financial information (insider trading), but not illegal for the purchaser or seller to engage in the activity, and before anyone mentions the case of Martha Stewart, she was found guilty of lying to law enforcement to protect her broker, not of the trading itself, which leads to an old saying:

The fish that keeps its mouth shut doesn't get caught.

It's not illegal to follow your brokers advice without any knowledge that you are acting with insider knowledge, but it is most definitely illegal to do so with prior knowledge. The prisons are full of people there for insider trading.

and yes, it is illegal for a minor to attempt to purchase tobacco products, not just illegal to sell them to a minor. See the attached link.

Sorry fish, but you blew this one, and you did so without your usual disclaimer about not being a lawyer.

as a defense once.  I was the last car in a string of cars going 85 on the freeway and got pulled over.  I went to court and argued selective prosecution and my offer of proof was a video taken while I was being pursued that showed my speedometer and that I was maintaining my distance from the cars in front of me, and so I therefore being selectively singled out from the  group for prosecution.  The judge fined me an extra $65 for having a phone in my hand while driving.  Fuck him.

Why? They don't give a FUCK about the facts.  They just want your money.  What you do is plead not guilty, go to court and wait for them to come around and offer you a plea deal.  This involves a plea for a violation of no points and a fine of $100 or $200.  It's a pain in the ass but it works every time.
Like mrfisher, still not a lawyer.  Which is why my advice here is always free.

But only an insider would know, not the normal customer who buys and sells stock, which was my point.

As for the tobacco, that attachment only speaks about Federal Policy to withhold funds, but not actual law.   My experience with this came from a bunch of enterprising teens who, on their own, bought tobacco from stores while compatriots filmed it in order to bust the stores who were selling tobacco.  In the news article that reported this, the local police chief clarified that the teens had done nothing wrong as it was not illegal for them to buy the tobacco, but only for the store to sell it.

This was a few years ago, and it's possible the law has changed, but I haven't heard anything about it.

Compare with booze, where the purchase by persons under 21 is most definitely illegal, for both parties.

you would have been stopped for impeding the flow of traffic.

This, in fact, occurred in California (where else?) a few years ago.

So, take heart:  You can't win.

my lesson on that one.  I so seldom get tickets, I usually just take the online traffic school and get it expunged.  They allow that in CA once a year, and I don't get tickets anywhere near that often.  So its a reduced fine, $20  for the online school (which takes a couple of hours to complete), and most importantly, no points.  Oh, and thank you for the free advice.  Its as good as I usually get from lawyers I pay.  Lol

What you describe happened to me. All of the traffic was cruising along at 80 or so.  I got nabbed while everybody else keeps streaming by.  I looked into the matter and found out that it was a well known speed trap and that the cops selectively go after out of state plates, figuring, I assume, that the recipients will just pay up. I opted to contest the ticket and on the day of my hearing, I drove 3.25 hours to get there. Things were going ~100% against the challengers in the cases before mine. When it was my turn, I started to explain to the judge that I was driving with all the other cars, ... and he interrupts and asks, "Did you talk to the ticketing officer?" No. "You're supposed to talk to the officer first. Go out into the lobby and talk to the ticketing officer." Which I do and in around 30 seconds I get the,"Pay this amount, no points, and we won't share info with your state so it won't affect your insurance." The judge would never do anything better than that so I took the deal and drove home. That was my first and only ticket and it was decades ago.
.
I did get a "warning" ticket. My daily commute would take me to an intersection with an old green-yellow-red stoplight set up. Did you ever see a traffic light that was solid yellow and solid red at the same time? In the good old days in MA, that was the equivalent of a WALK light, which I knew. No right on red if the walk light is on, so no right on yellow-red either. I knew that and I'd never turn on a yellow-red even if GaG, Jake and mrfisher were honking their horns behind me. They installed new traffic lights to comply with the Federal laws and they remained covered up with burlap and canvas for months and months. One day, I get to the intersection and the green-yellow-red light is solid red, no yellow. I did not notice that the burlap had been removed from the new pedestrian WALK light on a pole. The guy in front of me stops and turns right; I pull up, stop, and turn right. And the guy behind me. There's a traffic cop in the roadway around 50 ft down flagging us to pull over. I don't know about the other guys, but I explain to the cop that I've been driving this route for years, that the lights have been under burlap for months, that I didn't even see that the walk light was unwrapped, and that I never turn on yellow-red but the regular light was just plain red .. and he wrote up a "warning" ticket. The situation was a set up: first day of a new traffic light, let's get them while we can; cops posted right after the turn.
.
What were we talking about? Selling versus Buying and selective prosecution or discrimination. Even tho sellers are overwhelmingly F and buyers are overwhelmingly M, they'd just have to pinch an occasional Jane (F customer) to avoid the M-F discrimination thing and say it was exclusively a Seller-Buyer thing. Be careful out there, lopaw!

Too long of a story. But basically I got charged with A DWI, refusal to take breathalyzer, and felony hit and run. They dismissed all charges.

First I fell asleep driving then felt an impact thought I hit a guardrail. Then I noticed my front right tire was flat so I stopped and looked at the damages, yep flat and messed up the side.

I was sick felt like I was going to pass out. Called my insurance for a tow. Next was the police. Asked me for docs. Asked if I knew what happened. Told them I wasn’t feeling good and either fell asleep or passed out.

Asked to get out for sobriety check, I couldn’t stand up straight. Had 1-1/2 beers well over and hour before. Then asked to take breath test, I said I want a blood test to prove I’m not drunk or on drugs.

Then they told me I hit someone else. No one was on the road behind me. Told me my charges hand cuffed me at took me to jail but released my in the morning.

Go to court plead not guilty and broke, got a public defender. She basically told me I’m screwed.

Would loose license for up to 2 years and could serve short time in jail for hit and run felony.

I told her I didn’t want the breath test and asked for blood test, said it didn’t matter, I said even in a felony hit and run???

First preliminary appearance. Told her I would not plead guilty on all charges. Would accept negligent driving. She came out telling me the we’re offering a deal, dismisses the refusal, reduce HnR to a misdemeanor. I said no. She then told me the person I hit didn’t appear. I asked could we postpone and get a second preliminary? She said yes and prosecutor accepted.

In review of the photos, my car suffered a direct hit to the front tire, no damage to bumper. I believe this person ran out from an intersection and hit me.

Second appearance comes, I’m at the point where if they dismissed the refusal and charged me with wreckless or negligent driving I’ll take it. Loose license for 1 year.

Guess who didn’t show, the other driver. And guess who else didn’t show, the arresting officer, charges dropped case dismissed 😳

It’s more than luck, it’s nothing short of a miracle
