On the Newbies board, an 18 year old asked about hobbying. My response was that he was too young, and needed to learn how to relate to girls first. Hobbying would stunt the development of relationship skills. Many guys concurred.

Then it got me thinking. Generalizing here (so don't bash me too much). Guys who hobby are on the (shall we say delicately) less sociable end of the scale. (generalizing some more for the sake of discussion) ladies who escort are on the more sociable end of the scale. It seems like the ladies may have more of their relationship skills developed. Are there other issues that would be of concern for the ladies?

Question for the ladies: If someone 18-20 years old was considering being an escort, what advice would you give her?

You bring up some good points, and although it is a valid point, I don't completely agree with you. As you say, you do generalize.

I agree that some of the guys who hobby may be less sociable, but that is just one end of the spectrum. If you can't go out there, mix, mingle and get laid, escorts are probably your best alternative. On the other spectrum, think about the guys that are very sociable, but simply lack the time to do this - go to clubs, bars etc. and try the hook up game, especially when this may not generate any results. For these guys, in terms of efficiency, escorts are their best alternative. So for all we know, the 18YO you speak of may just be the next Mark Zuckerberg and not have time for the whole hook up scene.

And don't forget the whole plethora of hobbyists in the middle that may be married, like variety, want to experience something new, etc. etc. So I think there may be many reasons why some one may start the hobby. And although I probably wouldn't recommend an 18yo to start the hobby, he may be able to conjure a solid argument as to why he wants to get in the hobby. I personally started at 26 for a whole litany of reasons, which I won't get in to now, but it was a solid argument

As for the ladies, I would assume the ones that make the career choice are probably more sociable. But then, there are the few providers that join the profession as a last resort. They may have a different mindset. So the ladies may want to fill us in on this on.

Most of the time I've seen someone in their 20's it's been an afterparty type of situation where they went to the club/bar, didn't hook up, are up still drinking or partying or whatever and want someone to come over. It's not bad, but I don't personally do any drugs, so I avoid those specific situations.

I think you're right, that the reasons one gets into the hobby are varied. Whether that means they use it once or twice or become a regular "hobbyist" they all have different reasons for doing so.

If an 18 yr. old wants to hobby and has posted about it online, he's most likely craving intimacy that he's not getting. If he weren't a regular poster and just called a girl in some boozed out coke haze, I'd say he did so because he thought it would be a fun time, but certainly not a regular thing. Then again, I'm assuming based upon my own experiences.

Certainly there is the sexual intimacy factor, but the social skills disparity is an interesting take.  I assume that the ladies who escort are much more sexually skilled  than I.  (I mean they do this for a living and are good at it... and that is a compliment!) But with the exception of one (count em.... 1) escort that I have met in the 30 odd years (with the break for the marriage in there) that I have used escorts, ONLY ONE had a personality that I would NOT feel comfortable bringing around my family and friends... ONE!  whereas in my business world, there are several in any given year where I do not have the same comfort level.  While that is not a scientific feel, it is an observation.

With respect to a lady below the age of 21 doing this - heck, in a stripclub - I won't even let a young lady who is less that 21 dance for me  - let alone use them as an escort.... NOT that they are not attractive but I think that although 21 is an arbitrary age, it does provide for a time of innocence?  which I think necessary for adequate social development.

I've been accused of "going only with young girls" which I find to be a hugh complement to the ladies that I see! lol!!  they do look young!  But most are pretty regular people... that I find much in common with... that would be difficult for a 20 yr old to provide...

Would I recommend that a young man in his late teens or early 20s see a provider.... I guess it would depend.  If he were socially inept... I might... as it would give him confidence that he is at least as well equipped to have sex as is the next guy... and that is something that the providers I have seen do awfully well!
