Maybe he was shy though.  It happens.  Definitely did to me my first few times.  Especially on the higher end.

It would be like going to get your oil changed— but they do your spark plugs instead! Getting the new spark plugs are all well and good, but man, you still really need your oil changed!

I have never seen a provider who's only two choices was ME bringing the lube, or her spitting on her hand.  Most providers have some lube as a standard tool of the trade, even though it might not be my favorite brand.  I'm confused why you would see someone and not have any lube on hand yourself.
