Recently I have looked at regional boards other than my own. I am now convinced that I could fall into a dangerouse coma reading my own regional board.... becuase while we are helpful - for either fellow hobbiests visiting or helping the touring ladies and local ladies with this and that.... we are not a very active group with respect to posting and discussions... what gives.... but to the TER Board Moderators... which regional board has the most activity per day... # of posts, responses and reads? Can that be determined and put in a table!? and posted somewhere.? Just curious.....
If you go near the beginning of any board in any city, you will find that peak interest is when a particular board is just 40 or 50 pages new. Take this board for instance. It has 492 pages. Go back to page 450 and notice that each post averages 2000 to 4000 reads. Then go back to page 400 and notice a slight decline. Goto page 350 and notice another decline, until you get to where we're at now, averaging reads in the hundreds. The same goes for every city. Some boards may be more interesting than others, but the interest IN the boards wanes with age.
Usually have a active local board where discussions occur.
For instance Seattle has the original review board which most boards were derived from. It is very active but the Seattle board here is mostly ads and few discussions.
But then look at Las Vegas.... it is very active because it doesn't have a strong local board and most hobbyists are visitors as well.
Not exactly scientific research, H&T, and I disagree with both your hypothesis, analysis, and deduction.
Primarily (but not entirely) based on the Atlanta board, which is pretty active, it has been my experience that most board posts get between 200-500 inital reads within a few days of the original post date.
But when searching data posts, those same 200-500 read posts show up with read counts in the thousands, indicating that posts are being read well after their original posting date.
In other words, the read count continues to go up on almost all posts, and your 'research' that shows declining reads based on the board age is merely due to the fact that the more recents posts are, well, more recent -- and not due to declining interest or participation in the board.
I'm not sure I can follow all the statistical mumbo-jumbo in earlier posts. I can say that my local board - SanFran - is a huge snooze-fest. Nothing but provider ads and occasional 'does anyone have the 411 on this girl...' post. I've looked at LA and SDiego on occasion and SD will have a lively discussion with threads.
Most of our readers are local and serious about the hobby. When an interesting new post like a pointman report or a warning post goes on the board it will recieve 600 - 1200 hits in the first 24 hrs, that tells me that there are that many lurkers that stop by everyday to keep informed.
