the throw away phone is so your SO has no clue who you've been banging on the side.

I have single clients who use their reg phone they have nothing to hide.

Just wondering if anyone uses something like Skype on their main cell phone as a 2nd phone number for the hobby, instead of using a 2nd phone (burner phone)?  I haven't tried.  I would think you would just sign into Skype on your main cell phone and it would have it's own phone number for outgoing and incoming calls?  Skype is free domestic i think.  And you wouldn't have to use your real name to sign up for a free account.  Does this replace the 2nd phone or would there still be some privacy issues?

That's always gotten me. If I start searching and can't find things to match up I move on... I do my own screening now tho.

True, Google Voice is probably better since Google/Android are hooked together at the hip

Free app, it's a pay service but costs nothing. Turns, iPad, iPod, or ads a line to your iPhone. Comes in handy if you need it. Clear digital calling and no need to have a second device. That should help you married guys out. Has to be hard to explain a burner phone to the wife!

Google voice is great but it's one of those things that sometimes is too good and has too many features. Pinger is just an app that gives you a free number and texting. No connecting your other numbers, or setting up things you don't need like voicemail that transcribes your messages and emails them to you. Just a free number.

adds a second line to my regular phone, hidden from prying eyes, doesn't show up as blocked to the provider, etc...

That one's definitely new to me.  Guess I'm glad I asked.  Looks like it's time I got with the 21st century, these suggestions are a lot more convenient than the old fashioned 2nd / burner  phone...
Thanks for the suggestions all, any more? keep them coming

Part of the appeal of a burner is that there's no way to track that phone to me.  I bought it with cash, and I refill it with cash.
