Ok, I know at some point this was discussed somewhere, but I can't seem to find it with e search function...

Can anyone get me up to speed, in laymans terms, how NSA may effect us? It just seems that there has been a lot more LE activity in our little world, and I've had a strange number of people going in the "bad gut feeling" folder lately. Before I get on the phone with my lawyer, can anyone give me a rundown?

Thank yerrr!!!

Are you asking what are the effects of the recent news about NSA trying to keep tabs on us on our hobby?

And you are really meeting with your lawyer because of this? lol. Talk about being paranoid...

LE activity is always there, and will be till the hobby is legalized.  NSA doesn't really care about hookers and johns. They are too worried about terrorism and people trying to blow up buildings and subways and airplanes...

Whether NSA surveillance is right or wrong, and how its been abused, is a completely different topic, and is more suited for Politics and Religion board. You are certainly more than welcome to post it over there...

But for a normal hooker and a normal John, I wouldn't get paranoid to the extent of hiring a lawyer, unless of course there is something that you are withholding from us in your post....

has been collecting metadata on every phone call/email made, for years. Arguably, a significant breach of privacy for every private citizen. But they're screening for communications related to suspected terrorist activity, (and, well....quite possibly many other things). But, not escorts.

You have no more reason to worry now than you did 5+ years ago. You're not important enough for the NSA to care about :

Unless she is serving some top politicians who would want to be brought down by their opponents for political gains.

That's why I said normal hooker and John.

I think this is something to be considered..

Unless you're sending thousands of dollars overseas to strange addresses, calling up numbers on govt watch lists or regularly visiting sites associated with some potentially terrorist shit I wouldn't worry too much about the Feds.

However, as anyone who has read James Bamford's book Puzzle Palace knows, the NSA has in the past cooperated with the FBI and state and local agencies to collect information on US citizens.  But even in those cases it was usually for infiltrating domestic organizations that they considered seriously dangerous and potentially terroristic (at least in the mind of some J Edgar Hoover wannabe).

But nothing new about that. Ed Snowden did not reveal anything that was a complete secret---at least, conceptually. I'm still thinkin' Charlie is not in any immediate danger from the NSA...

Although one can never be completely sure of that.

BTW at first I thought she was asking about -No Strings Attached- relationships :-

why is she asking about no strings attached..? Why would she need to talk to her lawyer....?

And then my brain went to National Space agency before I clued-in on National Security Agency....ah...

I'm not trying to be overly paranoid, but I am involved in other things that make me worry more than others, I think. So, that's where that comes from, and the urge to talk to a lawyer to put myself completely at ease.

So it's pretty ok to expect no trouble, in terms of being the average everyday escort? At what point should a girl worry? When she's with an agency? High profile clients? At a party? Touring (I know this is a big deal for agencies, not so sure about indys)? Having multiple incalls/not having one at all?

Paranoia is kind of relative though, isn't it? I personally don't feel like its paranoid to double check, with everything going on in my life. A year ago, I wouldn't have bothered. Now, to me, I would rather be safe than sorry.

I'm more concerned with just how likely it is that they would worry about us, or use it to make an arrest. For example, there was just a bust in the Carolina's, where it wasn't a typical sting operation, it seems like they just kind of showed up at the girls houses and arrested them. Big reviewers were also outed on BP.

At what point would it be used to deal with one of us? Would it have to be over a big agency? A traveling girl with a ton of reviews? A prolific reviewer?

Welcome to the world of distributed computing with hundreds of thousands of cheap commodity servers running hadoop making cray compute power look like a cell phone.

I think the problem is really what if any boundaries are in place for data sharing. The NSA doesn't delete anything. Today according to the leaks they automatically store all encrypted communications, e.g. google email is encrypted by default. Right now without getting crypto keys from the providers they are unlikely to ever even try to decrypt this stuff. But 5 or 10 years from now when quantum computers start popping up in data centers, those encrypted communications are going to get decrypted.

If only the NSA has this information we are all likely never going to need to worry. But there has been a trend for such high level top security things to take on less and less importance and become more and more available.

Want to worry about something, worry about cell phone scanners and license plate readers. Many LE are using scanners to locate turned on cell phones, the hot tread is license plate readers that record every plate they see, recording time and location with it. Change that cell phone for work often and avoid the same out call locations over and over again

Also, look at the trend for localizing new technologies. Many police depts across the country are interested in using drones for local law enforcement, and some may even be currently doing so. It's not a far stretch to imagine they'd want their piece of the data pile pie. Today terrorists, tomorrow...?

I don't think the Obama administration is particularly interested in our hobby. But what if we get a president like Louie Gohmert? That could be a whole different kettle of fish:

Whether it's the 2013 equivalent of a CRAY or distributed computing what the NSA does is enormously expensive and labor intensive--at the end of the day some analyst still has to read that shit.  The costs would have to come down tremendously to make it appealing to even the biggest municipal police departments to use it to focus on what might end up being a series of misdemeamors.  Right now LE can get all the low tech busts they want whenever they want them without help from the NSA.  Do you really think the LAPD or NYPD don't know how to find providers and hobbyists and how to pressure them into turning on their comrades?  The question is one of resources versus return.  Sure LE will stage some big busts now and then to assure everyone they're still on the case but until drug cartels disappear and robberies dry up and car thefts cease I don't think LE is going to make hobbying their number 1 priority no matter how much high tech gear they get.  We're just not that important.

But Ed Meese didn't have Xkeystroke or any of these other lovely programs to play with. Imagine a bunch of those guys doing a keyword search for "let's get comfortable"!

NSA supports and provides intel to many of the other 3 letter agencies. Local LE around the country is working in conjunction with the FBI rounding up Providers, Pimps and agencies. We are talking tax evasion, human trafficking, off-shore bank account, bribery, funds to support terrorism, donations to mosques within the US that are growing American Terrorist that are currently be tracked.  Don't be stupid. There is big money here. Indy girls are lucky, agency girls might get 200 out of the 350 donation if they are lucky. There is major money here and the IRS, FBI, DEA and ever other GOV organization wants a piece to justify their budget. Watch your ass!
