I believe a quick fix would be to use Netscape 7.1 and use the stop pop up feature. Then get a program to rid your machine of all the adware/spyware that is living in it. At the same time give Zone Alarm a try for free.

When I type in this url, I get this site and then another one pops up called www.firehunt.org. This is like a search engine type of page but it has a bunch of banners on it. The really strange thing is that it has a TBD banner and a TER banner and then a bunch of junky banners...

This dang thing pops up every time I log onto this site... It is really annoying!

the DNS Registry [insert evil theme from STAR-WARS!] seems to be resolving all of the following URL variants properly

http://theeroticreview.com
http://www.theeroticreview.com
http://www.theeroticreview.org

btw, that must've cost TER a pretty penny or two (i wonder)

but Brooke, i see no evidence of this strange phenomenon you speak of... wait ... Mr. Sulu, please check your subspace scanners for any anomalous activity.

i shall attempt to distract the Klingon ad banners long enough for our shuttle craft to investigate these two "cloaked" imposters:

http://www.eroticreview.org    for the high-brow
http://www.eroticreview.com    for the low-brow (that's us folks! ;-)

When BB typed "When I type in this url, I get this site and then another one pops up..." I assumed it was referring to a third-party site (and not TER) that wasn't linked to in the messsage.

So, to answer the question, no I do not get popups when I type in the URL for TER. But then, I do not use MS Windows or Internet Explorer. I disallow popups from third-party websites and have my browser ask me before running any type of javascript. This prevents most popup behavior on my computer.

I don't have that trouble here, but upon occasion i will get something on that order when i visit a providers website.

and its frickin annoying as hell. It happened mostly when I was in Vegas...but since I have moved and I am using a different cable network in a different state it hasnt happened once.

I figured it was part of a spam I may have accidentally downloaded going to various sites on the net.

Dont worry honey it's not just you. But you may want to contact staff and see if there is an affiliation between TER and firehunt because it can get to be a pain in the ass after awhile.

You're the victim of spyware.  I suspect the TBD and TER banners are only their because you have TBD and TER cookies this malicious hijacker is "borrowing".  The real ads are the junky banners of which you've never heard.  That's all beside the point.  You can stop these popups with a popup blocker, but that may cause problems with sites that employ new windows and won't stop the data mining being done without your consent.  You need to install a spyware removal program.  My favorite is Spybot Search & Destroy, because of the immunize feature that will block known offenders.  It is even freeware and easy to use.

Thanks Trip!  I didn't realize I had so much of it on my computer as I rarely experience pop-ups.

Also get a program called spyware blaster.  Between Spybot and spywareblaster you'll keep your system pretty damn clean.  Remember to do online updates at least weekly for both programs...

Steve Gibson is one of the best at finding, identifying and exposing spyware that tracks where you go and what you do while you're there.

He has a number of useful utilities as well that are top notch. If you have a personal firewall, there is a way to check your level of impenetrability with Leak Test.

Here's the link to the site:

I know I'm not the most computer literate person out there but I am really getting annoyed by this crap.

I am gonig to install the software reccommended and hopefully it will go away.

Having a great time on my tour!

Remember how you got the adware/spyware in the first place. You installed or allowed someone else to install something on your computer.

If you guys really believe that spyware/adware removal software removes all other spyware/adware, you're right. But how many of you know that it usually installs it's own spyware after it's killed off all the competition.

It's not actually big brother who's watching, but we are being watched...period!

Surf on gang!

Which ones, and can you provide links to articles/info describing this?  Curious.

..if you are, click on the "tools" portion of your browser..

.. then click on the "internet options" portion of the pull-down menu..

.. on the "general" tab of the pull-down menu and you will see "home page"  then an open block for "address", if it is 'blank' you are OK, if there is a URL address filled in there you're not familiar using, it may be a link to one of those addresses which may open up the other links.. just click on the "use blank" to see if that will remove it from popping up..

.. if not go to the selection below it "temorary internet files" which gives you 3 options to check, "delete cookies, delete files, and settings" .. for an explanation as to how to use these 'left click' the ? mark at the top of the box and drag it to the word or spot you want help on and it will explain how to use these.

.. hope this helps, if not you have picked up some spy ware while browsing and to get rid of it you'll need some type of 'cleaning' software which I won't recommend here because of the onfo stated in the link below, please check it out when you have time..
