Make mine John Locke or Tyrconnell single malt.  And a mistletoe boutonnniere, to indicate that my sympathies are neither with the Catholics nor the Protestants, but rather with the Druids.  St. Patrick was not an Irishman, and he is remembered for bringing Christianity to Erin and driving out the snakes.  Look at the history of Catholic and Protestant Christianity there for the past 315 years and ask yourself, how deadly could the snakes have been?

I was going to say I was planning on having some Black Bush rather than beer tomorrow, but then I realized where I was typing this, and it would probably be misconstrued.

Lets just say that normally I like to take a taste of Glenlivet at home or Johnny Walker Blue when I am in a good mood and out, but there are a few Irish Whiskies (Black Bush among them) that I might dust off tomorrow.

Being Irish and Welsh, I have always giggled at St. Patricks day. It is a Holiday I never celebrate. St. Patrick did not only drive the snakes but also the Druids and Pagans out of Ireland. People who had thrived on that island for thousands of years. There are many different accounts and legends regarding St. Pat, but the general consensus in most writings is that he wasn't very nice. There are even tales of women and children being burned at the stake, proclaimed as heretics. Although these tales may be as over exaggerated as the tale of the snakes, religious persecution never has a happy ending.

So instead of St. Paddys day, I begin the ritual to celebrate Ostara (The Spring Equinox, March 20) This is the beginning of the years change. Trees budding, animals mating , birds migrating back from the south ect. The is the end of the old years cycle.

So drink up on the 17th, not for St. Pat, but to salute our boys and girls overseas and say a prayer in whatever spiritual realm you belong.

Be Well My Darlings.....
