My gal and I were on an extended trip and to cut down on luggage decided to share a laptop where we both logged on to TER.

TER was not amused, but we got off with a lecture.
TER ought to post this warning more prominently.

but since it is an offense that can result in being banned, a warning really should be posted more prominently.

Mr. Fisher please don't forget to clear cache, cookies and passwords after every session on TER when using a device that is not yours.  This is critical to your standing and access to your preferred hobby board.

Very smiling situation to me Mr F.
New to TER some 12 years ago and almost identical issue. Can’t recall if he got a temporary ban but I sure did....

Is Ter storing this data (mobile or web browser data)

Just seems like a bad idea

It keeps providers from logging in under their clients account right after a session and writing their own reviews among other things. One of those other things would be guys and gals alike creating a dozen different accounts from a single URL and/or device.

Some of these things still happen anyhow, but keeping this data does cut down on it a bit. Personally I am not that worried considering the TER servers are in Tulip land, not here in the US, and if Big Brother ever goes to the extremes of securing access to those servers, we are fucked anyhow and this extra data isn't going to really matter much at that point.

At least don't log into TER using her wireless.  TER is on the lookout for activity that would result from a stolen password I think.  Stay safe!

I wouldn't do that.  I also wear this.

TER track IP addresses I think, and for good reason.

If provider give access to her account and she is on PO board then guy can log into PO board and see what is being said there.

If guy give his log in to provider, and he is on guy board, girl has able to see what is said on guys board.

Not good for either.

What if the provider you are seeing works at the same large company you do, or is a college student at the University you also attend, or work at, etc.  What I am getting at is this, what if she and you just happen to access the same wireless IP addresses regularly, even if you didn't know she was even working at the same biz or at the same college (think 10-15k people, in the institution in a big city)  I mean, its possible in the big cities like NY, LA, Chicago, Philly, Boston, etc.  How does TER handle people on the same wireless server, even if they don't know each other and have never met outside the hobby?

The soon to be unemployed ... thats who.

I think its more than just the same IP, but more logging in from the same device (mac address) that gets people.

Yep this happened to my long time client. I asked him to do a review and he had no idea how so I showed him. I made him an account and he only used my phone because he did not want his wife to see and work banned those type of sites. Low and behold they took down his account. He freaked out and asked y so i inquired. TER said cant share devices. I thought it was dumb since its 2 different accounts. But all well. My question is what are the alternatives besides buying another device that he keeps at my place? Im under a written  order to destroy any connection between us anyways which would include any reviews of course.

there's a difference on IP address (internet) and the IP address of the device.

I can log in from hotels when I'm not using my cell phone.. (Im sure people have log in to TER in the same hotels but our devices are different). (just make sure you have a VPN so they hotels can't track the sites you visit)....

When a lady stayed at my house for a week, I did contact TER first (before she log into my internet provider service) and I let them know that she was visiting me... and would be logging from my house. That way I prevent any issues. I let them know in advance and nothing happened.

You can NEVER share devices or IP address. The only case is where you alert TER that you may be using same wifi (that I know of).

I stand behind TER on watching for fraud.

I have had several gfs who were also providers, and we told TER so as not to be a red flag. One of those ladies posted on TER more than me, so they rightfully questioned it.

NO GUY SHOULD EVER POST?REVIEW while there. Seriously? Not hard to open up free email and do that.

Sorry but my opinion is a very good chance he was "told" what to put as his review if he had to do that right after meeting. He should be allowed a few days to submit.

**** Not attack on anyone but seriously, guys and gals game the system. No harm in showing them or directing them, but WTF would they sit at your place and do it?????????????????????????????????????

No, no, no!
I hope people realise that when they use public WiFi (eg hotel WiFi, work, college etc) that the sites they access can be seen? Never never use hotel WiFi - the opportunity to draw unwanted attention to yourself is way too high...

Sometime ago, a provider friend was showing me how TER works and whatnot. I logged out of her account, and created my account to start advertising.

Immediately, TER locked my account and asked me what I knew about my friend's account. It was nerve wrecking to say the least but I explained the situation and neither of our accounts were deactivated.

Weird that TER tracks IP addresses though. . . always curious as to what kind of data are they trying to aggregate.  . . .

They banned him but not you? You created an account for him on your device!  You should have both been banned, at least temporarily.
