Hi, all. Long-timer lurker, first-time poster.

I'll get right to the point. I've been a very casual hobbyist for the past 5 years or so. During that time I've met maybe 4 or 5 girls, all through Craigslist. Yes, it's hard to separate the wheat from the chaff on there, but I have found a handful of great girls over the years.

But now they've all either retired or moved away, so I'm looking for a new one. The number of responses I get for the ads I post pale in comparison to (say) a year or two ago.

So what's changed? Well, for one thing, I just turned 40. I can't help but think that seeing that four-oh in my post is preventing a lot of people from responding who (might) would if I still had a "3" for my most significant digit.

I'm educated, friendly, very generous, and actually *look* younger than my age, but none of that matters if I can't get past the first step.

I haven't experimented with posting a younger age, and I won't. I don't want to present myself as something I'm not.

But I am wondering --  Guys, have you noticed anything similar? And girls, how much less likely would you be to respond to a 40-year-old than 35?

Anyway, your input would be appreciated. Thanks for reading.

I choose the ladies I want to see based on what I read here in their reviews, their ads and websites, and what I hear about them from fellow hobbyists.

As a balding overweight guy in my late fourties, I haven't had a single lady who I felt it was an issue for in any way.  Most of the ladies who express a preference here would actually prefer to see us older guys.  (sweeping generalisation alert) We tend to have better incomes, be more considerate, and don't want to try to f&*k them to death.

If you're seeking early 20 somethings they may tend to base their choices on age, but if you're looking for a real woman with real life experiences, we definitely enjoy the over 40 gents. I think twice before I'll see someone in their 30's - much less 20's. The 40's age range for a hobbyist is really quite young. You'd barely pass my screening at that tender ripe age. I think providers tend to prefer older gents. It seems that being 40+ is what providers look for.  Of course, I'm sure there are exceptions, but I think that you being 40 won't limit your chances to see providers.

I am assuming that you are posting ads looking for escorts on CL. The primary reason that things have slowed down for you most likely have absolutely nothing to do with you.
Craig's list has become a hot bed for third rate providers and LE stings. Not nearly as many legitimate ladies are using CL now as a year or two ago. The girls that advertise on CL will, for the most part, not answer your ads, you have to go to them.
Most legitimate providers actually prefer men over 40. I would suggest you start to try and find some leads here in the reviews of TER, trust me, in the long run you will be much better off.

They care about your ability to pay the freight and that you don't smell as if you worked on a shrimp boat all day. Get out of your head, dude. Why post when you can look through the catalog and do some research and call the lady you want. She's got the right to turn you down if you act as if you are mentally retarded or you say some shit consistent with some LE sting. Step your game up a bit and you'll find that the only thing not working for you is your big head... the little one can be fixed by one of the blue pills...

P.S. If you're only fishing on CL, you're missing out on some lovely ladies whose rates are not bargain basement and so their service is better than you're getting at Filene's.

I think he is trying to step up his game a bit by asking a legitimate question of respected hobbyists. You jumping down his throat doesn't strike me as being helpful at all.

By the way, the term "mentally retarded" isn't working even in the developmental disability community. As a mother with two autistic boys I could just as easily jump down your throat. But I won't. -e

Aside from the fact that his 4 or 5 dates (he can't seem to recall) and the fact he openly asked for advice, well he got it, the only kind I know how to give. Now you can gladly reach out to him and school him on the ways of the hobby world if you think he's needs a nurturing mother. If you can get past some of the words I used, you'll really see my advice is just as sound as any. If you think that mentally challenged or whatever euphemism you want, I can deliver that too. But don't expect me to know that you have feelings in this area without reaching out to me first. You can write me directly here or I can go to your website and send you mail. Trying to browbeat me into submission is not effective either.

However, you don't have to be PC in order to treat all human beings with respect. If I had contacted you privately we might have electronically hugged and kissed, but when a term that I find personally offensive shows up on a national board and no one steps up to point out that perhaps the term propogates an age old stereotype - well, it's like hearing a minority based joke amongst a group of people and letting it slide. Young man (yes, you are young to me!) you need to flee from CL.  It is a hotbed of LE activity and, in Silicon Valley lingo - why be reactive when you can be proacive?

I go on CityVibe, Eros, Lovings and find a gal that attracts me.  Then I do the most important part of the process - search for her reviews on TER.  No review?  I forget her.  No matter how tempting.

Another main reason I only see a lady reviewed on TER is I know the product offerings!  BBBJ for me is a must.  And I love kissing - DFK.  If I had paid my dues and was settling in with a lady and those two things weren't available...I'd be very upset.

So read the menu on TER and don't accept pot luck dinners!

I never had a problem with my age.   In fact, I have always felt that it was a plus with the ladies in the sense that they know that I am not some young buck who is going to give them a hard time (pun intended)

To be honest, your age doesn't matter at all. What matters is a variety of other things you may not be making clear... in fact, you're in a preferred range for a lot of providers.

Sorry I didn't read the other posts but I have to ask, Why would you do Craig's List at all?

There are so many good, reputable  providers on this and other Boards that you should even have to advertise.

Pick up the phone and dial them up!

I would have no conscious difference in reaction between a gent in his 30s or one in his 40s. My preferred range is 30 years and up. As pointed out earlier, older tends to be better in this hobby. Many girls have lower limits, but you'll seldom see an upper limit. You're probably close to the perfect/preferred age for a hobbyist. Other factors are at play here- either the gals you've contacted lately aren't reliable (likely with many CL girls), you're coming across negatively in some way- arrogance? asking for a discount? omitting important info? contacting on very short notice? I commend you for refusing to misrepresent yourself- you seem like a stand-up kind of guy, so it may just be a fluke. However, I would recommend contacting only well-reviewed ladies and professionals to increase your chances of success- some gals who advertise on CL or other free/community sites are part-timers, inexperienced, etc. and may not have the best professional skills- that includes communication, scheduling, discretion, etc. Best of luck!!~

They aren't rejecting you because of your age. You are simply experiencing the downhill slide that has become Craiglist.

Craigslist has always been the place where the riff raff girls of the hobby hung out but in years past you could usually find a diamond in the rough. But over the last couple years the ERS section has become a cesspool. As the ERS section has become public & common knowledge, it's attracted every quick buck artist and their sister looking for quick cash.  

CL isn't a "hobby" medium, it's the streetwalker venue of the 21st century.  Cast your line in a better pond and you'll have better results.

I have just re-read your post.  You post ads on CL?  Under the M4W  section?  I don't think providers seacrh CL for your type of ads.  CL has now become the street corner with Pimps mostly doing the postings.

Let me get this straight, you are taking an ad out on CL out to solicit for a sexual provider (who by definition solicits men for sex) that signfies that you are willing to PAY CASH in exchange for sex?

...and you actually think a lack of responses has something to do with turning 40?

Sorry the question makes little sense unless you left out a vital fact, like maybe you were running a (normal) personal ad instead.

Its a CASH FOR SEX exchange, there are rarely "first steps" required other than paying the cash, unless (not usually on CL) its a very high end and/or super selective independent or agency provider, and even in that case the mere fact that someone turned 40 will be completely irrelevant.
